This morning the car was packed to capacity. Along with mine and Helen's stuff we were also taking Lou and Bill up to Darwin and they had a lot of stuff. We packed it all in and headed off for the final three hour trip to the top. With every mile north we went the temperature went up and up. Just before we got to Darwin we stopped off at the Aboriginal Art Gallery and were treated to a display of snakes, crocodiles and lizards. Before I had the carpet snake wrapped round my neck I wash assured that it was not going to bite me. The 2 foot long Blue Tongue Lizard on the other hand was very capable it biting but was apparently docile in the heat and didn't mind being picked up!! After ... read more

Could it be that we are nearly up to date with the blogs...surely not. We are in Sydney right now and are writing about something which happened only a matter of days ago. Miracle. We cop a lot of flack for not updating our blogs but there are reasons..we are travelling you numpties. To write we have to do stuff. If we are doing stuff we can't always be writing. You get me? That and the fact that every blog you read can take up to 10 hours to produce so less of the whining dudes.... So, what brings us to Darwin other than the teeny tiny microscopic plane? The Northern territory of course! 1% of Australia's population live in the Northern Territory, which takes up 20% of the country's area. It is hard to express ... read more

On a bus finally leaving Dulwin. It's 8.12am. Early. On the Wayward bus that will take me all the way south to Alice Springs over the next 3.5 days. There are only 19ppl on the bus, and I've managed to grab 2 seats all to myself, so I should be in for a nice comfortable ride. I hadn't really read the brochure and have just found out that lunch and tea are not included, it's camping all the way and there isn't anywhere on the first leg to buy food - joy, but the good thing is that the first day is spent in Litchfield National Park whch is fab since it's supposed to rival Kakadu but with more waterholes and falls. Normally, this is right up my street, but to tell you the truth after ... read more

Stopped for one more night in Cavanaghs Hostel in Darwin, waiting around for my delayed Kakadu trip. The weather is stunning up here, and it's meant that the pool side has been packed with sunbathers. I've moved into a cheaper 16-bed dorm which is a bit of a shit-hole, but it's an all male dorm, which unsurprisingly I dont complain about. It even inspired some poetry: It's hard being gay, In a dorm full of boys. A child's mind, In a room stacked with toys. Boxers shorts, bottoms and burly delight, Masculine smells, a woman might fright. I feel like a spy, As I chat, smile, no lie. But I can't stop the glance, Of my wandering eye. Ok, it's no Yeats, but it passes the time. I dont think I'll ever forget this one sight ... read more

Well, I've crossed the state line into the Northern Territory, a land equivalent in size to France, Italy and Spain combined, but with a total population of around 200,000. A land that shunned the offer to be a true 'state' in favour of being self-governed....well, it's probably something to do with the fact that it gets more cash from the government this way. See - I am learning some stuff! Anyway, I've settled in Darwin, (or should I say Dulwin) : a small town, prematurely pushed into being a city, and it shows. Hot, lazy and utterly devoid of life and vibrancy, so much so that I'm glad I'll have only wasted 3 days here by the time I return from kakadu National Park on Sunday. Talking of Kakadu, I was supposed to go yesterday but ... read more

Happy Birthday To Me! Spent the day dazed and confused, numbed by the grey fog in my brain that was brought on by last night. Eugh. Tequila shot after Tequila shot after jug of beer. Is it any wonder? Still, it was a brilliant night of wonderful people, laughs and table-top dancing... in fact it was a miraculous night, if only for that fact that I somehow avoided breaking my neck as I expertly shook my booty from table to table - well, I thought so. I was woke by Alex The German and Delphine The French getting up. In my snoozy dreams I looked forward to a day alone, (if you know me, you'll know that I can quite easily overdose on people and need time alone to recover), doing my own thing, perhaps starting ... read more

Weeks 10-12 (17th May - 1st June 2006) On May 17th we booked ourself into a rather tatty caravan park at Cable Beach. We built our house quite close to the camp kitchen - not our choice I assure you as the kitchen areas are usually full of loud tw*ts mouthing off and getting drunk on a sniff of cheap backpacker lager, refusing to go to bed until the early hours and generally keeping everyone else awake. We'd already paid for 3 nights as the truck needed servicing so we readied our earplugs for the nights to come.......that night in fact we were rudely awakened by a bunch of p*ssed up French guys (they're the worst in my opinion.....all that armpit hair can't be healthy) singing along to some 'Amelie' soundtrack throwback at the top of ... read more

We are in Australia now, yes I know, it has been a while since my last blog entry but here is the latest one!!! We arrived in Australia around 10 days ago. I have to say that Ozzies are quite paranoid, that was my first impression in customs, the asked me to have a look at my boots, which were buried deep down in my rucksack and to see the little shells that I have got from India. When you are filling the forms they ask if you have got any wood objects and of course you think, not really I haven't bought any mask or weird things around. Well HELLO!!! Isn't this bracelet a wooden bracelet, oh yes it is!! and you have NOT DECLARED IT!!! that is the situation that Ade had to ... read more

Darren and I went to feed the fish- or should I say Giant Fish!!!! These things were huge- Dad you would have been very proud if one of these was a catch!! Darren treated me to lunch- bless him! Which was gorgeous........ Darren had his white soup which I think is hillarious- he will only eat soup that is white!!!! Veg counts as white- o gosh don't ask!! We later went to the pub- packed and went back to the pub for a $1 meal!!!! Both me and Darren were quite- which is a real first as you can all imagine- and Darren is like me! ... read more

We returned the car and checked in to a hostel "chillies". The room was gross and stank of boys. It was boiling! I wan't happy being there but I always get this unsettled feel for the first day or so! All the girls in the hostel were bronzed beauties- the boys didn't know where to look first!!!!!! Why does it always work in boys favour!?! So again we had no idea how long to stay for or whether we could get work here or not! Its awful not knowing but at the same time thats the exciting side of it all!!!! We had the idea that we might go pruning- yes pruning on a near by island for 12 days- long and hard hrs but a good way to save $$$$$.................. the boys went to the ... read more
