Arriving in Darwin was like arriving in a different world (planet Oz). Suddenly everything was airconditioned, clean, working, and efficient. And right from the beginning I felt that Australians (Ozzies) are quite friendly and helpful. For a start the other passenger on my flight from Timor gave me a lift into the city center. Here I figured out another major thing had changed, the speed you spend your hard earned bucks as a traveler. Staying a night at a backpackers is about 15-20A$, about eight times as much as in Indonesia. But the standart is usually quite different, too. In the humid nothern part of Australia a pool is what all backpackers are looking for. Just running water in contrast is what I had wanted in Kupang. In my dorm I met the next friendly guy, ... read more

SO feeling big we started for darwin with hangovers! Only 80ks. The car was noticably bigger than most other cars we felt cool and evryone stared at us. So pulled in round beaches we headed to main beach to cool down and lo and behold we were not allowed to swim due to there being box jelly fish in the water and it looked so pristine and blue and we hadnt seen the sea in three months so we were very very very upset. So we had to have a shower which was refreshing and then headed into the city which was extremely strange to drive in with all this trffic and people and stuff like lights which havent seen for ages. So we used internet only to return and find we had a parking ticket ... read more

Well, since my last blog I have now travelled through central Australia and made it up to the capital of the Northern Territory Darwin! I have had a fantastic trip and seen some more great sights. The highlights were swimming in the thermal pools at Mataranka surrounded by hundreds of fruit bats, eating green ants and kangaroo tail while learning how to throw spears on an aboriginal experience day, a yellow river billabong cruise only topped by a jumping crocodile cruise and a hike in Kakadu National Park. Now arrived in Darwin for some much needed air conditioning after temperatures reaching 45 degrees! Not nice when you are camping. Had a wild night in Darwin last night and now have a few days to chill before I head to Cairns!... read more

I arrived in Darwin on the 16/2/05. I started work the following day and uni exactly a week later. Darwin is gret, relaxed and vibrant, and a very young city which is growing and developing very quickly! I absolutely love it here! the weather during the dry is fantastic but we are hitting the build up now, so it will be interesting to see what the next few months bring for us. I have attached a few photos which have been taken since february.... read more

When we went to Crocodylus park, there was like, 100 crocodiles, or even more probably. They also had red kangaroos, wallabies, Emus, lions, 2 tigers, Cassowaries, 2 ostriches and lots of little monkeys. By Molly Hello everyone, Today we went to the Crocodylus Park in Darwin. We got there in time for the big saltie’s feeding. We also got to see the crocodiles in the breeding pens get fed some chicken. I got to hold a baby croc and so did Molly. There we lots of other animals at the park apart from the crocodiles - lions, tigers, emus and ostriches just to name a few. I saw my first cassowary and they weren’t as big as I thought they’d be. We saw lots of black kites (birds of prey) above the park. It was a ... read more

G’day everyone, If we got paid for every time we said G’day or How ya goin mate? we could probably retire. Better than shove off you Victorian idiots - I guess. Anyway, at the moment we are camped up in Darwin with Tanya (Angie’s sister) in a house that she is renting and the kids are getting their fix of TV and DVD. Apparently ‘TV Deficiency Syndrome’ (TVDS-Aust. Med. Journal March 1989 Vol 3. Pg 45-89) is a medical condition proceeded by whining, whinging and a bad temper after being in the backseat of a car for 4 hours on the Stuart Highway. On the way we went to Palm Valley on a really rough 4WD track, stopped at Mataranka and Douglas Daly thermal springs and Wycliffe Wells, which is supposed to be the UFO capital ... read more
