And they embarked upon an epic adventure. They knew there would be many highs - and in the depths of their souls they knew these highs would be balanced with soul destroying lows (mainly squirty bum). Next stop, Katmandu...... read more

Full. Complet. Me voilà donc à manger un Butter ... read more

Well after 7 hours on the road - yes 7 hours of driving and I will give it to the Oz's they seem to keep to the speed limit which for me is really hard to do - thank god for cruise control. On our way back to Sydney we stopped off at a little place called Port Macquarie for a spot of lunch. We found an amazing little shack that was on the riverfront - so fish it had to be then - to be honest that was the only choice. So we get back into Sydney and have to fill the car up with petrol before taking back to the hire company and somehow ended up having a major row on what strength of petrol was in the pump - how can you have ... read more

Hi everyone, Firstly, "Thanks Dave for safely depositing us in Auckland!" After a restless night's sleep and a few entertaining and late shuttle passengers, we finally made it to the airport at 04h00. Luckily we were only fourth in line to check in, so it seamed that we would be nestled in for our coffee and breakfast in no time, with 2 hours left to go. HOW WRONG WERE WE!!! First mishap: Upon entering South Africa on a Kiwi passport, one is granted 90 days of visa free holiday. We had booked flights 9 months apart, hoping that our grand stories of wayward adventure ahead would persuade the authorities that Mark was not in fact intending to settle in sunny South Africa. Apparently this is not the case. The extremely efficient Qantas staff were onto this ... read more

Unfinished Business, Family Time and the A380 When the travel bug bites it is hard to resist and since the BBA V1 4 years ago there has been a yearning that we had to complete unfinished business. Even with over 8 months of travel and over 90,000km last time we still didn’t see all and do all we wanted to in Europe. So the flame flickered n when we returned to NZ in late 2009 and we got ourselves back into work and saving hard. Mind you we also had a wedding to save for with daughter # 2 engaged to marry Brent in January of this year. With the planning for that occasion done we were ready to concentrate on the BBA V2 and in November 2012 it became a reality when we made the ... read more

August 1 We woke up early and had a simple breakfast at the hotel before checking out. We decided to go to the Tjapukai Aboriginal centre close to the airport as we had heard that it was very good. Unfortunately we had just missed a tour that would have been interesting but we had a look through the exposition and the shop. The boys got a free lesson in Didgeridoo playing and we bought ourselves some souvenirs before going to the airport. As we left Cairns we had a beautiful view of the rainforest covered mountains and the curing cost line, a beautiful reminder of our time up here. In Sydney we took a taxi to the hotel and check-in to a nice family room. After a typical bar dinner with a very special Chinese piano ... read more

After a total of 44 hours on various plane rides from one Australian city to another, we landed at home, sweet home Chicago after a 40 hour Sunday, literally the longest day of our lives. http://goaustralia.about.com/od/melbournevictoria/a/melbournegaol.htm http://www.ayersrockresort.com.au/sounds-of-silence/... read more

It was the last day in Sydney. We did nothing on this day, besides pack our luggage and had a quick last walk down to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. We took some last few photos before heading back to the hotel to catch a taxi to the airport. It was 28 degrees in Sydney and the sun was shining. By the time we got back to our hotel it was 1pm. We stayed in the hotel for the next 1 hour. Sydney is the most crowded place in Australia. After that, we had to check out and asked the hotel guys to call the taxi for us. The taxi came, and the man who was driving the taxi put the luggage into the boot for us. It was now 2:30pm. The taxi cost just under $50 ... read more

I'm at Sydney airport. And have been for the last 5 hours. I finally managed to get the free wifi to behave itself, so things are looking up for the remaining hour before we jet off to Japan. The first day of the journey got off to a rocky start when we discovered that josh and Mel (tom's lovely cousin and partner who kindly lent their floor and couch for the night) had only trim milk, vastly reducing enjoyment of our breakfast wheatbix. This setback is sure to be one of many trials on our journey, and we handled it admirably, with hardly any tears and a minimal amount of swearing. We set off, full-tummied and determined to put the incident behind us, into the rubble strewn streets of Christchurch. Christchurch has become a strange place, ... read more
