We escaped Surfside the next morning, and took a bunch of buses finally figuring out where the Bus Depot and my cell phone were. I was very happy to have it back, and after that we went to our hostel right by Central station, Home Backpackers. It was not especially nice or clean, but it was not Surfside and for that we were grateful. We packed up a beach bag and took the ferry from Circular Quay over to Manly, where we spent the afternoon at the beach. I bought a new book and it was really nice to finally have some good weather and a beach day. We stayed in Manly for dinner, and then took the ferry back that night. We were kinda freaked out when we realized the other two beds in ... read more

We're having an absolute ball! Bit tired tonight, after a long eventful day. I went surfing/bodyboarding at Manly beach with Steve early this morning and then we had breakfast at a cafe facing the beach. After this we stocked up on some fruit & nuts and drove north to a place called Church Point, where we caught a ferry to Scotland Island. This small island is about 400m offshore and has about 100 houses on it. It was an incredibly steep climb to cross over the island, and our friend Hanneke is 7 months pregnant - I was really impressed. We were totally lost on the way, because it's very rustic and just covered in eucalyptus (gum tree) forest and a network of paths and roads without any signage. Not really a tourist spot, so the ... read more

From the moment we landed I liked Sydney. The train was clean, the people friendly, the workers helpful and to come out of the station to Circular Quay and find ourselves right below Sydney Harbour Bridge and a stone's throw away from the Opera House - it was quite a welcome! The ferry ride to Manly was just lovely, despite the fact that we'd had absolutely NO sleep on the plane the night before. After watching 3 movies I was just settling down to catch a few Z's when the PA system crackeld into life and announced "Good morning, Ladies & Gentlemen. We will be serving a continental breakfast shortly". I had to turn my watch forward 4 hours and that made it 5 am. Not good :) We struggled up the, thankfully short, steep hill ... read more

hi, I found a place to live last week and moved in today. Its an apartment in a high rise building so the views are pretty good. There is 2 gyms and 2 swimming pools in the basement. I have a lot of room mates but its close to impossible to find a single or double room thats not too much money here. The cost of living is higher, especially for americans with our dollar but im getting used to it. i also got a cell phone today... not that i you can really call me on it from the states. It was kinda nice not having a computer or cell phone in front of me all the time feeling obligated to check for missed calls or emails. I went to many beaches this past week ... read more

Day 8 So today was a really great day! First off no orientation so that was amazing! I had the day to myself so me and the swede decided to go to Manly beach because so many people told us how nice it was. It is kind of far away so we had to take a bus, a train and a ferry but the ferry was great. The ferry was almost like a tour. It takes you right next to the opera house and has some great views of the city and the vegetation around the city. It was really beautiful! So we finally got to the beach and it was AMAZING! So beautiful and beautiful people, the water was great and the little beach side town was really cute and much cheaper than downtown Sydney. ... read more

After my bike tour around Sydney concluded, the tour guide let me keep the bike for the rest of the day, so I got on a ferry to Manly Beach to go check out that area. Here are the photos from that excursion.... read more

Hey hey from Manly in Sydney.... Manly is one of the most beautiful part of Sydney. This is where we are staying in our friend's house. Our oryginal plan was to stay in Cairns, fly to Brisbaine and to Fiji from there. Instead as I said before in my other blog entry, we came back to Sydney from Cairns. I love to go with the flow and be flexible with our plans as there is always room for surprises! As I realised later there were few reasons we had to come back to Sydney. One of it was to meet a couple: Ewa and Richard. They are a couple for few months and it was amazing to watch them, and feel how happy they are. Richard become for me this last drop of hope, where for ... read more

Here we are.... Surprise, surprise, surprise.. I am again in Sydney!! Is was surprise even for me. Since we returned our car, and since Peter came back to London we were pretty bored. We've seen most of Cairns and the area around and there was nothing more to see apart of snorekling in the Great Barrier Reef but the weather wasn't great either. We received email from our friends in Sydney and they invited us again. Our friend insisted so much and she said that there are even pickles in the fridge for us so we couldn't resist. Snorekling or diving in the Great Barrier Reef it is something that everyone want to do but we have still week in Fiji so we decided to do it there. I hope the weather will improve. But I ... read more

**Sorry this this is kinda long, I have a whole week of adventures to update you on!** Last weekend, Jake a I flew down to Melbourne to visit with some camp frineds. We had no place to live, no jobs, and really no place to stay in Sydney...so it seemed like the best thing to do! Our friends Anna and Scott picked us up and took us to Scuba's house. (all camp people of course) Friday we were on our own, so we ventured into the city. There is a ton of stuff in Melbourne to see and do! We didn't see any of it...we spent the whole day at the Australian Open! We bought $19.00 open ground tickets, and were able to watch everything but the big match that evening. We got there right before ... read more

I caught a ferry over to Manly today with Sarah and her friend, Kim. The beach was packed. It was really hot today so we didn't stay on the beach for too long. Manly is a really nice place, we went for a walk through the centre and had a look in some of the shops and I had a delicious white chocolate and rasperry ice-cream. There was a jazz show in the Domain, at the botanic gardens, tonight as part of the Sydney Festival that's running throughout January. Sarah and I met Kim down there this evening but we were quite a distance from the stage, it was really busy because it was such a nice day today. I think I came to Sydney at the right time of year, there's lots of stuff happening ... read more
