We are currently in Sydney... But this is a story about our trip via Great Ocean Road. We flew to Melbourne and spent there two days, discovering garden city. My friend from Poland who lives in Sydney joined us on the second day. We stayed in the backpackers place which we called Hilton. We had great laugh as it was a total opposite to it. Then in the evening Ilona's friend (priest from Adelaide)joined us to do Great Ocean Road. It is a incredable breathtaking path from Torquay to Warrnabool. It is one of the world's most spectacular coastal drives. It was very difficult to find a place to sleep on the way as it is very busy time of the year. Finally at around one o'clock in the morning after joining a local pub party ... read more

14th - 16th Dec We arrived early morning in Sydney from Central station where the greyhound drops you off. We jumped on the train to Circular Quay and the ferry to Manly. We were booked into Manly Backpackers for 3 nights. Thankfully it was only about 500 metres from the ferry wharf so not to far to walk. We arrived at 9am just as reception was opening and checked into what became hell for 3 nights, the room was a 4 dorm which looked like it hadnt seen a cleaner for god know how long. The girl who was in there asleep already had taken over every space there was to offer with all her stuff. We had to get a spare sheet from reception to put up as a curtain as nothing at the window ... read more

Today we got the ferry to Manly and soaked up the sun on another stunning beach. Graham and I were surrounded by bronzed beauties and we were really nervous about revealing our peelly wally skin at first, you could almost hear a pin drop when we first took off our tops.....I am now pleased to report at the time of writing we are now glowing slightly rather than simply reflecting the sun. Graham and I enjoyed jumping over the waves until an announcement came over the tannoy to watch out for blue bottle jelly fish as a few people had been stung ...well you did not have to tell us twice !! That night we went to quite easily the best bar in the world " the opera bar" which runs beside the Opera house and ... read more

Well I started out at 22:05 English time on the 25th and arrived in Oz, their time 11:05 on the 27th. It's fair to say I was fucked. Singapore was a humid and warm place, although cool by their standards at a mere 28 C!! Then on to another long flight which was made more enjoyable through some lovely air hostess';) On to sydney, I jumped off the train from the airport with Chris who kindly came and met me and I was hit by the sight of the Harbour bridge and the opera house. The amount of times I have gazed at photo's of this and then to actually see them really brought home how far I have travelled. We got on the ferry and and were off to Manly. This is all I can ... read more

Day 273 (25/12/07) MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! We woke to the usual Christmas day excitement and the big question looming in both our minds....'Has he been?' We would have to wait a little while to find out... Getting ready at the hostel we picked up the stockings we had made, sorry, that Santa had given us for Sandie and Tony and made our way over to their hotel for xmas morning. We arrived to find that despite the fact that we were halfway around the world from his normal drop off point, Santa had managed to find us with the help of his six white boomers (kangaroos - it's too hot for reindeer here) and we had lots of prezzies to open! Having picked up a posh brekkie the day before, we were set up with Bucks ... read more

NATAL... Que queremos renovação e buscaremos ... read more

Seasons Greetings, Ho Ho Ho! Well its Christmas Eve & its very strange coz doesnt feel like Christmas at all - being in the sun just doesnt have the same effect!! It was lovely to get your cards tho - thanks! Anyway, we arrived in Sydney on Fri night & then spent Sat sorting a few things out. Yesterday we went into the city (we are staying in Manly which is bout 30mins on the ferry across the harbour) to do some sightseeing. Our first sight of the day was a nutter balancing on a bike, which was balanced on a high pole, juggling a sword, flaming stick and a apple (which he was also eating!) and he was English?! Went to the Opera House which is pretty impressive (altho Chris thought it was too small?!) ... read more

Last entry was from Brisbane where we spent two nights in a really good hostel, whilst in Brisbane had a couple of good nights out, I went to an art gallery which was really good and took in a bit of the city. Brisbane is a good city but for backpackers there is not a great deal to do. After leaving Brisbane we travelled down to Surfers Paradise which is like the Malibu of Australia, high rise beach apartments back on the the ocean its a really good place, went surfing again but it was a little more difficlut this time. Went for a night out and bumped into a mates girlfriend and her mate who decided to come out with us, also on the night out was Rays cousin who he had never met before ... read more

It's over a week ago since we arrived here & it seems to have flown by.......& it's amazing how my initial impression of this place has well exceeded my expectations. I'll paint the picture for you. You see we arrived here from the mountains to the very impressive Sydney skyline & harbour & then to an idyllic beach town with a bustling atmosphere......so we were very excited......but it was with depression that we checked into the party-house of a hostel that we now call "home". We even tried ringing elsewhere last minute to avoid the inevitable. On first sight of the hostel I was already planning my hostelworld review.....ie....dirty carpets, filthy dorms, unfriendly check-in staff. Oh it was a battle to find a spot on the floor to throw down the bags in the 6-bed dorm ... read more
