This walk/hike is an extension of our earlier walk from Bradley's Head to Balmoral. You can actually walk in a complete circle around the Sydney Harbor and up and down the norh and south coast line - which is what we are doing in small sections. The Spit is a short 10 minute bus ride from our place in Neutral Bay, and you can walk along the coastline for the next 8K all the way up to Manly Beach (a very popular syndey surfing spot). Anninka and Heidi started walking around at around 11 - Matt was a little under the weather and did the walk solo later on in the weekend. Without Matt stopping to look at bugs and trees every half step, we made it to the end in just about 3 hours. The ... read more

Last day of the trip. tear drop. Its over. It seems like only yesterday I was handing my shoes to my dad in exchange for flip flops at the airport... Here is a little taste of how the last 3 weeks has gone down. Arrived in Airlie Beach at 6 am off of the night bus to do an amazing 2 night sailing trip in the whitsunday islands and nothing was open yet so I found a desirable picnic table to sleep on until the shop was open at 830. I re discovered how much I hate shit hawks aka seagulls, probably the most loud obnoxious bird on the planet. When I got to the shop I discovered that the boat I was supposed to go on had broken down so i got upgraded to a ... read more

While Lauren's away diving the GBR with her friend Sabrina, Simon squeezed in a tech dive in on the tugboat 'Himma' that lies in the open ocean at at 52m, just outside Sydney harbour. The Wreck of the 'Himma' lies alongside several other wrecks sunk as part of an artificial reef in an effort to bolster the declining quantity of fish life near Sydney. Although relatively unsuccessful as a reef, the 'Himma' and other nearby wrecks have become a great attraction for advanced and technical divers. The following is a brief description of the 'Himma' from Michael Mcfadyen Scuba: "The Himma was built by Cochrane and Sons in Selby, UK, as the Empire Pat (Lloyd's Register 168788) for the Royal Navy (British Ministry of Transport). Launched in August 1942, the Empire Pat displaced 274 tons and ... read more

Hello Well we left Melbourne after a sad goodbye to Ashley, and got ready to take the overnight bus to Sydney. After countless luxury buses in South America we were disapointed and did not get much sleep and it cost about double the price!! Anyway we checked into Wake Up hostel which is right next to the bus station, we had showers and straight away walked up to the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, then you feel like you are actually in Sydney! It was a gorgeous day which was nice after the tempermental weather of Melbourne! We walked right round to Mrs McQuarries Chair and got great views over and we also hundreds of flying foxes(bats) in the trees it was very creepy oh and also an unnervingly large spider, dont worry Martyn got pictures ... read more

Today was our last day in Australia, and it certainly ended on a high! After a rousing Easter Sunday church service with Steve & Hanneke, we went for a picnic at Shelly Beach. You know what that means...snorkelling! Yesterday we had a late afternoon snorkel, and were shown by a local where the sharks hang out! He swam us about 100m along the rocks to where the water became quite murky, and sure enough, out of the gloom the dark unmistakeable silhouettes glided into view. We were stoked! Today, took it to another level. First we stumbled on a Wobbegong - a shark that looks like it was trying to be a bit of seaweed. A group of SCUBA divers came swimming along below us, and the lead guy was oblivious to the animal I had ... read more

The weather was lovely today, perfect for walking. Ae Rhan and I walked to Circular Quay to meet Claudia before catching the ferry over to Manly. We were a little late because we both wanted to stop at Darling Harbour to buy sunglasses. We caught the 12pm ferry and planned to get the free bus to the end and do the walk backwards, but the bus didn't come and the lady in the information centre was very unhelpful. In the end, we decided to start the walk from where we were and get the bus back. It was about 1.30pm when we began the walk. At the beginning of the walk there were lots of spiders everywhere! The views along the way were beautiful and we took short breaks at the best lookout points. There are ... read more

Day 23 So yesterday and today I ended up going to Manly Beach because I only had one class each day. That was pretty much awesome. Also, Andreas (the swede) left today so that is sad  He is off to the US later so hopefully that will be fun for him! As far as classes go, I think that they are going be alright, a little different teaching style though. There is a lot more writing and essays than in traditional American business classes, but they seem to care a lot more about the individual worker here than just making money. I have only gone to 4 classes this week because classes have 1 lecture and 1 tutorial with each class. This week we don’t have tutorials so it’s pretty sweet. Next week it becomes ... read more

So we made it down under, an 8 hour plane journey passed pretty quick by the both of us dozing off for 6 of it!! After feeling pretty dazed and confused we got off the train to a very sunny and warm Sydney. We travelled across to Manly on the ferry and set up camp in our hostel. We were thankful to even get on a hostel considering everywhere was booked up! When we googled, 'Sydney and February' it came up with the 'Madis Gras' which is one of the biggest festivals in Sydney where Gay and Lesbians parade about with wiggly bums and not much else on up and down the streets on Sydney, this resulted in nearly every hostel in Sydney being booked up. After feeling quite hung over we got out and about ... read more
