So we are still enjoying our free stay in Sydney. The weather has been great and the tan is finally coming along (thank god). Although we have been here for about 2 weeks, it feels like we have packed everything in to the last 4 days. On Sunday Erinn and I went for a hike from the ‘Spit Bridge’ to Manly beach. It was about 10 kilometers, and im pretty sure that we started out on the wrong end because it seemed like 10 kilometers up hill, but we just kept telling ourselves it was a good workout. The walk was totally beautiful though, great views of the city and the ocean the whole way, but I think that Erinn and I were most impressed with this amazing bathroom along the trail. It was totally automatic ... read more

Today we slept in later than usual - exhausted from all this excitement! Off to Manly today via the ferry, arrive and our first port of call is the oceanarium (despite the fact we are unable to dive with the sharks) this turned out to be a good thing as we were both disappointed with the visit feeling it was worse than Sealife Centres back home! The shark tunnel was the best part of the visit but it was difficult getting photos through the glass and the strobe lighting. Next stop a visit to the endless shops and market stalls. Before venturing into the sea we stopped off at an ice-cream parlour selling Ben & Jerrys! Rob had the biggest waffle sundae ever! We were too soft to go straight into the main part of the ... read more

I hate to say this but I am so ready to come home. While I have having a lot of fun I am so sick of the rain, cockroches, not having a car, and too much down time. But begin I have to talk about my adventure out in Sydney the other night. As I expected the night ended up being a huge ordeal and because of that I have no desire to go out in Sydney again. So to get there we had to walk the 5 blocks to the bus stop (in the rain of course), then take the bus for 55 minutes to downtown Sydney. Then we had to take a cab ride to the club. The cover charge was $30!!!! Needless to say I didn’t buy any drinks in the club, but ... read more

Hello all, So the next installment of the adventure titled the day after the night before. We signed up to go sky diving a few days before so we took the opportunity to enjoy some good times in the event of the shoots not opening. We didn't get in until 3:30 in the morning and i was clearly still drunk when we left the apartment at 6:30 to jump at 8:30. Sweet. ... read more

Tooodelooo everyone! So sorry for not writing sooner. We've been busy.. No more India :) Horay and three cheers, especially from Maria. The less said about that the better. We're now sitting in our only chair in our new living room in our new apartment in our new neighbourhood in our new country in our new continent. And we're very content, sipping Australian "Champagne" and, if we're very quiet we can hear the waves crashing against the rocks below. Its been a whirlwind two weeks - jet lag, infected insect bites (Maria), sand in eye (Maria), many new things like bike (Maria), surfboard (Maria AND Will but yet to be tested), fridge, dishwasher etc. I think we also have a new sydney record in finding an apartment. And it's wonderful....... See pictures below. And the map. ... read more

Had every intention to go to the beach today. It wasn't exactly scorching but we wanted to use our free travelcards before it expired so we decided on Manly beach. You can get a ferry over and luckily our free cards worked with ferries too! Zoe lost my cardigan! I was probably a bit harsh to her and it was only from Primark so whatever but still..! I'm over it now though. Marc went in the sauna in the hostel next door while me and Zoe discovered an awesome food court nearby our hostel. It actually has HEALTHY fast food rather than the crap that's usually in food courts. It's our little discovery because it's easy to just walk straight past it so there aren't many backpackers in there, only locals. Had a delicious mixed bean ... read more

Well, its been a while since I last wrote a blog but we've been rather busy! On the Monday of our second week in Sydney I went to work in a warehouse, lifting, sorting and unpacking boxes of clothes for an Australian mail order company while Amy sorted out various potential waitressing jobs for her and some clothes for said waitressing. For the first few hours I really liked the warehouse job. It was nice to have something physical to do after years of getting fat at a desk but towards the end of the day I was utterly exhausted and my muscles were burning after 8 hours of carrying heavy boxes and my poor soft little banker hands were red raw. I was quietly relieved to have an interview at a call centre on Tuesday. ... read more

Today I woke up in the morning to take a trip to Manly, a neighborhood far north of Coogee that requires us to take a ferry for 45 minutes. The first thing all of us wanted to do was eat, so we went to the first place we saw, “Gourmet Pizza.” It was here that I accomplished the first of many goals for Australia: to eat kangaroo. It was actually pretty delicious, but it did not come in the form I was expecting. It was more like a beef jerky than the sausage that I was expecting. Either way, though, it was good. After lunch we met up on the beach to play a little ultimate Frisbee. Many of the Europeans were struggling a bit with it, but it was fun. Then we took a walk ... read more

A ferry trip out to Manly in the afternoon. Despite it being winter the sun was quite strong. We took the ferry to Manly, and got off. We walked through the town and found a brass band playing - how strange! Then we carried on to the beach where the children got wet eventually as the tide came in! ... read more

What a fabulous day we had Monday. The sun was shining bright as we woke up nice and early at 8am (8am is now early to us!) and walked down the road to the Balgowlah Golf Course. Yes, that’s right, we’re taking some golf lessons whilst were in Sydney. Son & Kevin, we know you’ll be impressed! Our instructor is Ollie, who is a very amiable Aussie. We spent an hour putting and chipping and it was great fun! Next lesson is in a week’s time when we’re back from our trip to Uluru/Melbourne. After the lesson, we got to experience a very exciting event in Balgowlah: the opening of the new mall. We came THIS close to getting Maja and Steve a free shopping basket on wheels, which we know they’re gutted about missing out ... read more
