“Strenuousness is the immortal path,” another quote from crew LINKS None TRAVEL TIPS Well, we’re back on the river and we’re continuing to move downstream. Today was a great day for rapids. We just hit one right after another - we were soaked! As soon as we’d get a little bit dry, another rapid. We stopped and did a hike up a stream and we followed the stream right through a gorge all the way to a beautiful waterfall. Everybody got to play in it - another just beautiful, beautiful place. People could climb up behind the falls and jump into a deep pool and cool off. For afternoon hike, went up a slot canyon back to another little falls, but the important thing about this was the geology as we walked back. The whole ... read more

I still remember the moment we arrived at Newark International Airport (New York) after long haul flight from Malaysia to Taipei to Seattle to Newark. I traveled with a group of friends (5 of them) and we get along pretty well and I can say that they were the best travel buddies I ever have before. I miss them so much and wish could travel with them again :) My online friend came to picked us at the airport and it was really kind of him as he drove 2 hours from Pennsylvania to the airport after work. I can't thank him enough and we had a great chat along the way to his house. It was nice to meet him for real, at last and it was great to know him. What a good guy, ... read more

We arrived in St Augustine - They oldest permanent city in North America (Pensacola was first settled but got flattered by a hurricane). It is a great little city with historic houses in both southern and Spanish styles. Anna, Meg and I decided to go for a walk before dinner. We walked down to Castillo de San Marcos fortress. It was built out of a mix of shell and concrete called Conquina. They used it as it was soft and when it was bombed for 27 straight days it survived. We saw the main entrance gates to the old city then headed back to our hotel which was has a 600 year old tree in the front call ‘Old Senator’. St Augustine was found when a guy came searching for the fountain of youth… you can ... read more

After battling heat and desolate highways, we find ourselves in Taos, New Mexico, more than 1,000 miles from our starting point. Getting through Arizona was a learning experience. For instance, did you know that Chinese buffets in Arizona include Cheetos as an entree? Or that AZ desperately needs to update their tourist motto from "Get your Kicks on Route 66"? Despite this, we got some kicks, too much sun, and a lot of flats. We spent as much of our AZ time as possible on 66- after being warned NOT to bike 4 days through "Indian Country"- or did they say "Injun"? anyway, a huge reservation with no services and non-biker friendly crowds- We hopped from the shadeless Mormon outpost of Jackrabbit (where we tried grape Gatorade for the first time- mmm) to the world's ... read more

Hola amigos! As you must know, I'm set to leave for Mexico in less than two days. I will be staying with family friends and in addition to helping out around their clinic, will be administering basic hearing tests at local schools. Sounds exciting, doesn't it?! I think so. Today I've been busy packing. Not packing for long stretches of time, but packing whenever the need hits. For example, I realized earlier that I will desperately need a Spanish/English dictionary. In it went! And so on and so forth. But I'm sure you don't want to hear about my thrilling day of suitcase stuffing, so I will wrap this up. Adios! ~ Casey (aka Mira) ... read more

ABC Alive Below Crystal!! We survived the Crystal Rapids. We were wet early on in the morning. It seemed chilly, but only briefly. Floating down the Colorado, a familiar sight came into view, the bridge leading into Phantom Ranch. The temperature was sweltering, 106 in the shade and 112 in the sun. We met folks doing a “rim to rim” in one day. WOW, in this heat I can’t imagine. The post cards we mailed from the ranch are brought up to the postal service by way ... read more

Aloha everyone! I hope that things are going well for you all. I am thinking of you all.....well...sometimes anyway. Just going to share a few things that I have been doing - I am not going to put every little detail or day down because that wont make you want to come and visit the places, it will just bore you! 24/05/05: On the day that I left for Hawaii someone asked me in the afternoon at what time I would arrive in Hawaii. I thought for a moment and found it very unusual saying "This morning". The 9 hr flight on a newish 747 was very pleasant and arriving in Honolulu in the morning of the night that I left Sydney was a little confusing. Now here is a question, if I stayed in the ... read more
