Seattle.... (a little delayed in posting...) It is strange that one can be in a new place, a new city, for just a short time andknow that it could be home. Seattle is like that! It has a marketplace, international flavours, coffee shops where people actually sita nd drink coffee (ok...maybe a few too many coffee shops). It has a downtown filled with tall buildings...both business and residential. But above all it has people...peaople everywhere. Out and about, wandering, exploring, shopping, meeting, hustling. It has a stunning ocean, and green spaces too. It has an attitutde...I haven't figured it out yet, but it's there...and seems to fit...the city and me! ha ha My first day was both relaxing and full - should be for one that started at 4 am. For some reason the idea of ... read more

If memory serves me right, it was August of 1992 when I first encountered Cafe Cubano. It was directly after Hurricane Andrew had savaged south Florida. I couldn't comprehend at the time why all these frazzled Floridians were crouching on their front lawns, teetering over tiny coffeepots. My Pop explained they were making Cuban Coffee, and although that meant nothing to me, it was clearly providing them solace in a time of great distress. While watching my sister's gymnastics practice last Tuesday, a saintly woman named Maggie dropped by and whipped up a batch of Cafe Cubano for the waiting parents and for the coaches. I leapt at the opportunity to try it, having become a saddo caffeine dependent thanks to the workerbee pace at WorMar. It was heavenly! Essentially a shot of Cuban espresso mixed ... read more

I'm condensing a few different places into one blog as it'd take weeks to update you otherwise. The first stop after San Francisco was Yosemite National Park. We got up to about 6,500 feet above sea level (although some of the mountain peaks rose to 13k) and the weather changed as we approached. The blue skies and warm sunshine that we'd become used to were replaced by grey clouds and cold rain. It was like being back in blighty. I found the scenery quite spectacular and although we only spent a few hours there we got to see a lot of the central area. Trivia fans: the waterfall (photo below) is North America's tallest at 2,425 feet. It's the world's fifth tallest - there is one in Venezuela that is over 3k feet. So now you ... read more

Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the BAYOU! - Hank Williams / Jambalaya Lyrics Here it is 5:45am Friday morning and I am looking out my balcony at the gentle Destin waves rolling in. The sun is slowly starting to rise and the emerald green starting to glow -- you can still see the moon to the far right -- and hear the birds welcoming the day. Destin truly is ... read more

Well, after a four hour confusing drive Jon, Kyle, and myself pull into our Super 8 Motel. We are being awakened at 2:30AM for our 6:00AM flight to China. The amount of 'stuff' packed is unreal. Only time will tell if the silly things we packed will pay off or not... It's been a great month since school has been left out. I've managed to go to New York City, Philadelphia for a weekend, and a weekend at the beach. Pics will be posted when I return back to my computer in the US. Just so you all know.... 2 months of China and Mongolia here we come!!! thinking of you all, - Zach... read more

Booked a trip through Travelocity. Man, their last minute deals were pretty good. Was set to spend the holiday weekend in Dallas until I found this. Flights to San Fran were $300...this was flight and hotel for $400/ Of course...no knowing what the state of the hotel will be....... Got to S. F. airport with no drama and as taxis are not cheap took the Bart down town. Very easy to use now they link directly to the airport. ($5 whereas taxi woulda been $40) Wasn't too sure where to get off as we didn't know where hotel was so just headed to Market street and walked. Good job we only had a small backpack as hotel was quieter a walk....all down Market, Along Embarcardo, into fishermans wharf. Quick stop at the seals ...arhhhhhhhh. HOTEL. Sweet, ... read more

quotation here LINKS None TRAVEL TIPS We’re here in the Grand Canyon looking up; the sun’s starting to come up. It’s going to be another beautiful day. Everybody is up and moving about. We’re going to get a good start this morning, get on the river, get ahead of people. This is the last day of the real rapids. We have one coming up called Lava Rocks, which is the biggest. Then there are a bunch of small ones after that, but it will be a pretty easy day, except we’re going to be out in the sun, baking. So they brought water cannons and buckets and stuff like that to douse us down and keep us cool. We’ll drink lots of water. The deeper into the canyon we go, the more rock is exposed ... read more

Oh my god this weekend was rippin!! We started the trip convoying it from vegas to Lake Havasu, We rode in Erik's Chevy truck, towing the big boat, Rob and crew in a new hummer and Meryl had her nice RX8. We got to the van park on the river where Erik kept his trailer ( It was a race trailer that had beds, couches, air con, kitchen, TV and a shower, he rides quad bikes). Then in the Arvie we grabbed the esky (or should I say the cooler) and went for a cruise in the boat. It was just before sunset so it was a top time to go for boat ride. We went a while up the river then on the way back one of the guys had a ski behind the boat ... read more
