Grow old with me! The best is yet to be. -Robert Browning LINKS Name TRAVEL TIPS Today, Kelly and I got engaged. I had planned this for a while, I got her out in the middle of the Colorado River, I leaned over and said, “Kel will you marry me?” Her response was, “Are you kidding?” Talk about a surprise! I assured her I had the ring in my pocket. She said, “Yes” and I put the ring on her finger, a perfect fit! The Celtic Claddagh ring has a lovely legend behind it. It was chosen with much thoughtfulness and given with a great deal of love. We shared our news and after lots of hugs and good wishes we were off for a hike in the canyons. The canyon hikes all start uphill, obviously, ... read more

Quiet. The sun beats down on the bleachers. They are hot. People carry umbrellas, wear baseball hats, shimmer with shiny oil over their skin: anything to keep the sun off. Tiny birds flit around the tennis courts. They launch themselves from their corner mud and grass nests, inched between cement arches that shadow the walkway from the gym to the exercise center. They tumble about the air, like children with wings, fluttering over the swimming pool, across the dry grasses which sweep across small hillocks; they overlook the sparkling bay, a hint of the sun caught in their eyes as they flash through evergreens. A battle is taking place on the court below. A slash, and then a flurry of green. The people on the bleachers erupt like an explosion of energy. He (the winner) holds ... read more

St. George's weather is so much warmer than northern Utah around Salt Lake City, that they call it "Dixie". The Mormon's grew cotton here during the Civil War when they couldn't get cotton from the Southeast. Brigham Young had his winter home in St. George. Jim and I visited it and Jacob Hamblin's pioneer home. It was quite interesting to hear the history of the local Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saint's (LDS). We attended a performance of the Southwest Utah Symphony. It was a pops concert with 3 tenors. We have enjoyed some very good concerts and plays everywhere we have gone, which gives us a good idea of what is available. Pittsburgh's still at the top. I did decide to do "the hill" and I have done it many times. The ... read more

It felt good to get back to the structured lifestyle of the USA after recharging our batteries in Belize. Although we didn't get out of the airport until gone midnight, we had our hire car ready and waiting for us there and we managed to find our hostel without too much trouble. My first worrying San Fran incident came very early in our stay. After checking in I had to park the car about half a mile from the hostel and walk through a dark, quiet residential estate to get back. On the walk back a large cat that looked pregnant walked out into the path about fifteen feet in front of me. I tried to get its attention ("here pussy pussy") only for it to stop dead and slowly turn towards me. It was then ... read more

I spent a few hours on Sunday participating in a Spring Cleaning event at Otto's Mini. A great time to meet fellow Mini owners, whose cars are as unique as their owners. "Jack" was washed and waxed until he shimmered. I learned a few new tips and tricks regarding waxing a car, including a novel use of peanut butter oil. Jerry, staff member of Otto's BMW, took me for a ride in a motorcross Mini. I was blown away! 0 to 90 mph in 2 nanoseconds! The car handled like a champ, especially around tight corners! Oh yeah...I can easily see myself owning the road in this car! ... read more

Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads Thoreau Links Great web site needs lots of computer power to enjoy don’t give up on it Morning begins with a wake-up call “Coffeeeee” at about 6 AM. By 6:30 the call is “Breakkkfffffast!”. Breakfast is prepared by the crew, and they are quite efficient. Breakfast is a hot meal -bacon, eggs, French toast, oatmeal, bagels, each day different. Here are some select photos from my going away parties. Grade A props to everyone who came out and celebrated with me. I had a great time. Special thanks to the puppy hat and to the kind ladies who posed for pictures with me despite my absymal personal hygiene, inferior rapping and dancing skills and deplorable attempts at pickup lines. Your charity, pity and merciful kindness will not be forgotten when I am RICH!!! RICH I TELL YOU! P.S. For those of you who knew about my pre-party medical purple alert, I am happy to report that everything is still working, in optimal condition vibration-free! Look out world.... read more

Anna, Meg and I went to ‘Bravo’ and Italian Restaurant not far from our hotel. It was really nice inside and the food was excellent as was the service. We stayed there for ages and chatted and relaxed as we got to know each other a bit better. We caught the trolley (like a tram) to the French Quarter to see the big Church. Then we went to do the river walk. It started sprinkling whilst we were walking and as it was so humid and we had no particular place to be I said that it was the first time since I was a kid that I didn’t actually mind getting a little wet, but it wasn’t too long after that before the skies opened up and it started to absolutely hammer with rain and ... read more

May 15th 2005 - I land in JFK Airport slightly wiery after a 7 hour flight, to enter a nightmare queue through customs and an even bigger nightmare taking the cab into New York. The cab driver was a rude and it was raining. Our first hostel is a dump of epic proportions, the Bowerys Whitehouse hostel in New York would have been classed as third class quarters on a sailing ship. But never mind I am in New York New York After months of hype, planning, counter-planning, checking, triple checking - my first hours in New York were always going to be disappointing. Even though our first day experiences were tainted there were still little things that had already astounded me. Firstly, as we flew into New York, unsurprisingly nowhere near Manhatten you start ... read more
