I had a dreary Dallas weekend. It was rainy and cloudy all weekend long and I seemed to be in a funk. Having been to Dallas plenty of times I just didn't feel like taking in museums or anything so Steve decided to drop me off at a certain grassy knoll and conveniently located book depository. The JFK Assassination Sight was a lot more crowded than I thought it would be. You can take a tour but in overhearing a little bit of the tour most of lectures seemed centered around conspiracy theories and not being in the mood to hear any I skipped it. We all know Elvis did it. There is an X in the middle of the road. It’s where Kennedy was first shot. At first I didn't want to take a picture ... read more

All is well here, except for having the flu fairly badly now, but I'm guessing it's my own fault since each night consists of drinking my own weight in alcohol and eating again then!! and only getting 4 hours or so of sleep a night. Went to the Chemist and got some stuff though so hopefully it will help. Nat and I went for a jog this morning, it wasn’t great but it was a start! We travelled through Virginia on the way to D.C. Then it was onto Washington where we are now. We drove past the Pentagon, and it is massive!! They say that you could fit one of the US states in it and it would still only take up 1/5 of it!! Once we arrived we went and did a night city ... read more

I leave tomorrow. I'm so excited that I can't stand it. I have been having some trouble with my travel agency. I now have my return flights taken care of (they were scheduled 5 minutes apart, leaving me no time to catch the second one). So, I will no longer be stuck in Toronto! They still haven't emailed me the vouchers for the hostel I booked for Tuesday night. I might have to get ugly with them soon. Other than those little issues, everything is great!! In 1d 2h 30m, I'll be on that plane, wishing I was off of it.... read more

Good Mornin' from New Orelans! Wow, we are actually here. We are in New Orleans. Blocks away from the French Quarter. Steps away from Emeril's..and..too close for comfort to some spooky looking warehouses! LOL! It is 11:35am and I am looking out the window of our room (Marriott Residence Inn -- $49 a night travel agent rate -- yeah baby), and listening to the faint sounds of Cajun music. It is coming from close by, but not sure where. The sun is shining, however there are dark clouds to the left....it has that "thunderstorm" on the horizon look, which I love. Cajun music and thunderstorms -- in New Orleans, how cool? Yesterday, as we bid farewell to beautiful Destin, we headed out on our 3 1/2 hour drive through Alabama (lord help us) and Mississippi. We ... read more

Situated a short plane ride south of Oahu, Big Island doesn’t attract the large crowds of its smaller neighbouring islands. 90% of the visitors to Hawaii stay on the island of Oahu and half of those stay at or near Waikiki. Big Island is famous for two things; 1. Captain Cook was killed on this island in 1779 in a town on the West Coast now known as 'Captain Cook' - very original name. Australians have somewhat immortalised Captain Cook and consider him to be the greatest explorer of his time. The Hawaiians do not glorify Cook or the influence the first Europeans had on their lives or culture. Speaking with some of the Hawaiians, I think they look at that period of time with sadness and it is not surprising given that within a hundred ... read more

Greetings, this is a short synopsis of our trip to Sonoma and Napa Valley that we took in last May. The trip was added on to a fabulous wedding we attended in Carmel. From Carmel, we drove north through San Francisco, then went along the West Coast up to Sonoma. Although the ride was gorgeous, I would not recommend this route unless you plan on a 5-6 hour ride. This route takes you through mountains with ocean vistas, along ranches with pastures, and then into Northern Sonoma Valley, very rustic, with dozens of wineries that vary tremendously, making this a wine tourist’s day in Eden. We stayed at Farmhouse Inn and Restaurant in Forestville (707.887.3300). It consists of a main house, built in the late 1800’s, and 8 small cottages. The restaurant has an excellent reputation ... read more

Well, it has started, regardless if I am fully ready for this adventure. Flying today has been smooth if anything, but all it takes is a few layovers spanning a couple hours to make you sick of flying. I was lucky enough to switch seats so that I could sit with Jon on the flight from Chicago to San Francisco. We have actually met a Mongolian college student who lives in Ulaan Baator, but goes to college in Wisconsin. Quite a commute, eh? She is going to be on our flight to Beijing. It is pretty interesting that since San Francisco is about the most western international airport in the United States towards Asia that the entire wing we were in was seriously dominated by large amounts of Asians returning home. Very few Americans seem to ... read more

When our memories outweigh our dreams, we have grown old. --William J. Clinton - Bill Clinton LINKS None TRAVEL TIPS This is an early get up and we are preparing for the end of our trip. We packed up, had a light breakfast and headed down the river. There were no rapids; it was pretty calm the whole way down. The raft float was at least four hours, before the jet-boat picked us up and brought us to Lake Mead. As we traveled out of “The Canyon”, things just disappear. No more fascinating geology, no more canyons to hike, no more waterfalls, it was a bit sad. Well our bus met us and off we went through the security of Hoover DAM We are back to civilization (?), Las Vegas (?) from the sublime to ... read more
