Yesterday was our last day at whidbey. We took a short trip to Deception State Park to do some hiking. It’s a great park with several trails winding along the coast. Great views. Pictures speak for them selves. Whidbey Naval Air Station was a joy to visit. The RV Park was one of the best we have ever used. Right on the water and very clean and well kept. It was an experience being around this part of the Navy again. Whidbey now has several P3 squadron and a few new P8 squadrons. It also has some EP3’s and the new F/A 18 Growler. We flew in here a lot back in the 60’s and 70’s to pick up torpedoes and do practice mining runs. At that time it was a small outpost and was the ... read more

Hi All. Yesterday we ventured to the Hoh Rain Forest in Olympic National Park. It took another ferry from Couteville to Port Townsend and then 135 mile drive to the Hoh visitor center. It took about 3 1/2 hours for the drive each way. Driving is very slow in this part of Washington with the two lane roads and lots of road construction. We did have two hours of hiking around in the area before heading back to the Port Townsend ferry. The Hoh Rain Forest is one of the wettest places in the continental US. It receives nearly 12 FEET of rain a year. We get that much in St George every 20 years. The area is absolutely beautiful. After taking the ferry back to Couteville we found a great little neighborhood sea food restaurant. ... read more

Hi All, We are on another supposedly rest day today. I have been slack the last two days with My blog and pictures. So I will catch up now. Tuesday we took the ferry from Anacortes to Friday Harbor. Joanne’s old high school friend met us at the ferry and arranged for a tour of the island on the Jolly Trolley. A great way to see the island. We made extended stops at Roche Harbor and the Lime kiln light house. The island is beautiful and well worth the visit. We planned on spending more time and having dinner in Friday Harbor, but they cancelled the 7:45 ferry so we had to leave early to try to eat in Oak Harbor. With all this sea food around we could only find a McDonalds that was open. ... read more

Yesterday we took sort of a day off. Checked out the base, drove to the sea plane base Navy Exchange, bought groceries at Safeway, eat lunch at a great sea food restaurant, visited a small light light house, watch the air show of F/A 18 Growlers over our campsite, played some Horse Shoes, and watched a whale at sunset behind our campsite. A great rest day. Today we are headed to Friday Harbor and not a rest day. More tomorrow.... read more

Good Morning Everyone, We are finally in Whidbey Island. After 3 days of driving 1200 miles we set up last night and cooked some hamburgers on the grill and relaxed with a great view of the ocean. We are in the Cliff Side RV park on Naval Air Station Whidbey Island. It is one of the best RV parks I have ever stayed at. Great spot right on the ocean, well maintain with gardens everywhere, and a nature trail along the ocean and into the thick forest. Great sleeping last night with the cool air and the sound of the waves on the beach. The drive was mostly uneventful until we approached Seattle with the Sunday returning traffic. More cars in 2 hours than we saw the previous 3 days. It is amazing how people will ... read more

Day: 25/26/27 Distance: 9689 miles Hi Everyone, sorry I didn't blog yesterday but I was driving a good chunk of the day and I was trying to get to Kent & Missy's house in Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island. I managed to get there a little after 4PM and was warmly welcomed by Missy and her daughter McKenna. They helped me drag out my tent and tarps and lay them out on their yard to dry out (more on that later). I was able to get a nice shower and do my laundry. Kent came home and we had a great dinner of grilled Salmon. We sat around the table and talked well into the night with only occasional forays into nerd talk with Kent. :) It was a truly a great night and I wished ... read more

We have been enjoying our time here in Oak Harbor’s Windjammer Park, situated right on the water. This city park is a wonderful place and is well used by the community. Yesterday we went with friends by ferryboat to Port Townsend, WA, a pretty little town on the northeastern tip of the Olympic Peninsula. Because of the town’s emphasis on historical preservation, this well-known 19th century seaport with its ornate Victorian architecture has been well preserved. The railroad never came to Port Townsend, so the town never became the industrial hub that was expected. So the Victorian commercial buildings and ornate homes with spectacular views of the harbor still remain. Our friends built their home overlooking Puget Sound several years ago. Needless to say, they love it. We’ve had a lovely time visiting, eating, and touring. ... read more

After a great breakfast at the Acorn Bar we departed Colville at 9 AM. Destination of Oak Harbour about 330 miles away' We had been told of speed traps in Marblemount and Concrete. Small towns with 35 MPH and local LEOS that have active ink pens. Washington is a diverse state, going from lush greens to near desert (complete with sagebrush) back to green and then the ocean shore. Not a speedy day as much to view and great twisties. Tonights meal was at the local ELKS Lodge where we had hand breaded cod fried to perfection. Great visit and back to room. Tomorrow will be a ride down the coast to....I don't know...where ever we stop. I am ahead of schedule so time for some touristy things if they arise. Today was awesome..we had the ... read more

Well, I will be on a plane in less that 48 hours, and that means that I have to get ready to go. The last two days have been spent running around trying to make sure that I have everything I'm going to need and that all my loose ends get tied up. Packing is rediculous. I've pretty much accomplished washing MOST of my laundry, and running to Walmart for those last-minute items. Other than that, I really don't know where to start. I need so many different things. The weather is going to be FREEZING, so I need to pack warm clothes, but there is a dress code at school, and I have to wear professional clothes while on campus. This means Snow boots, but also several highheels. Skirts, and Fleece pants. I have no ... read more

We left Penticton on July 23 late morning, we arrived in Winthrop, Washington to stay in the KOA. We got there late, but it was a great campground. Had a swimming pool and the kids had a great time. The weather was 84 degrees. Nice. We only had the one night but it was good. Drank some wine, had a fire and just enjoyed the time together. Love it. Gerry is busy with his journal. We are now in Oak Harbour, Washington. Love it here. Don, my brother and wife Cindy came up for dinner. They just live an hour from here. The weather yesterday was perfect. Jeff and Sonya took the kids to the beach, and Gerry and I just chilled and read our books. It was nice. We are here for yesterday and today. ... read more
