À ... read more

Motorhome News from North America 26 15th October - 25th October 2006 New York, New York and Washington Somewhere amongst our 35mm slide archives back home there’s a photo of Janice and I looking across the bay towards Sydney Harbour Bridge. “We’ve arrived,” Janice said, smiling. “This is Australia.” By that time we had already been in Australia for nearly three weeks. Such is the power of the mind. There are pictures framed in both memory and expectation, of people and places, sounds and feelings - and they were all there, tucked up in our little minds as we arrived in New York. Suddenly, there it is. 'We've arrived. This is America. This is New York!' New York, where bustling crowds ride up the dizzy 86 floors of the Empire State Building, and down to the ... read more

Semper Fidelis ‘Always faithful’ - United States Marine Corps motto Being committed to a marathon seems to be a straightforward business of running a 26.2 miles course. At least this is one naïve assumption I’ve had, signing up for the 2006 Marine Corps Marathon in early spring. And of course, as it turned out, the marathon business is slightly more complicated than I have originally thought, as I learned from my training program in the past 20+ weeks. This is a word of wisdom from a marathoner. The hardest part of embracing the challenge is to get to the starting line, assuming that during the life of training, no unexpected things happen such as physical injuries, which is unfortunately a prevalent result for most first time trainees. Vigorous exercise schedule to which I adhere consists of ... read more

"The time has come," the Walrus said, "To talk of many things: Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax-- Of cabbages--and kings-- And why the sea is boiling hot-- And whether pigs have wings." Lewis Carroll The Walrus & The Carpenter, 1872 Kel quotes this poem often and has, in my opinion, little knowledge or care of the true meaning of the poem. While I know the poem has a deep seated meaning of corruption and political commentary, I quote it hear because it always makes me think of anticipation. I’m sure it has everything to do with the first phrase in the verse quoted above…hey, at least I’m honest when it comes to my slightly simple thought process. Work Ends Yup, we have both finished our last day of work. Mine was October 13th and Kel’s was ... read more

Well...the winds hit last night! The palapa was a sorry sight this morning! I had cleared out all the chairs, table etc., several days ago; but hadn't gotten around to getting the palapa itself taken down. Procrastination came back to bite us on the rear this time! A couple of the poles were actually ben; but, we may be able to salvage...we shall see. Took a trip out to Floyd Co., last week...went along 58, through Carroll Co. and then up Rt. 8 and along the Parkway a bit. Took a few pics of foliage, but not enough. We head to Little Washington, NC this weekend, so I'm hoping to have another shot as we head through NC and down to the Pamlico. Will post, if I get anything decent. Hasta el proximo...... read more

I’m packed, I’m ready to go but there’s one thing I’m missing and that’s the business card from Mr Cab Driver when he drove me to the hostel from the airport. He told me he’d take me to the airport for $25. Today’s fare with some random cabbie cost $40. What is up with that! I’m not sure if I’ve made note of this yet, but seeing that it’s the 7th time I’m about to do this, it’s about time it got a mention. I’m referring to the rigorous security checks that are performed in each of the airports. The strictest yet so far has been in Sydney, but at every airport here in the USA, the alert is Orange and they’re all keeping an eye out for anything out of the norm. Shoes need ... read more

So it’s been over a month now since I finished BMB, and I still don’t have any desire to finish assembling my bike. I hung the pieces up and returned the bike box to the club, but after 750 miles in that saddle, I have no overwhelming urge to get it back together & get back on. Plus, I really, really need to do a complete overhaul, and I’ve got so many freelance jobs going on right now that I just don’t have the time. But today is one of those overcast, drizzly fall days, and it sure would be nice to have a functioning bike with fenders so that I could take Abby for a ride in her trailer without spraying her with mud. Speaking of mud, a bunch of us went out last week ... read more

So, my first blog, where to start? Well, my Dad is in the military and my family and I have lived in many states of the US as well as Japan. (But I'll get to that in a sec) When I was about 9ish me and my Family went to the Dominican Republic for a mission trip, shortly after we moved to Japan. After we moved there, thats when the travel bug really bit me! We then vacationed down to Austrailia for some of the best days of my life! After we moved back to the states I went on another mission trip, this trime to Guatemala and this time, by myself. A totally awsome experience doing my favorite things: serving Jesus - and traveling.......I can't wait to go to a new place, its so amazing ... read more

First and foremost, welcome new subscribers! I realize many of you have signed yourselves up (or in the case of the W&M group, been signed up by Kel) since the last blog entry was created. Obviously there will be more entries after the trip begins and I hope they will all be more frequent and more interesting. For now, be content with knowing that we are thinking of you all every time we look at this blog page. Time Dwindles As of today I officially have 25 days left at work (Kel has more like 30 because she's choosing to work an extra week). It has become apparent to me that my life is about to change in ways that I can't truly comprehend. First I have 5 calendar weeks of work to get through which ... read more
