My departure is set for just a few days from now. On October 6th to be exact. See attached map for the first leg of the trip....After 24 hrs of traveling I'll arrive on Saturday the 8th in Hong Kong on a red eye flight. You could say i'm excited, but that would be an understatement.. Been getting all my stuff together in the house.... Jess managed to take a picture of me trying on my one of my cool recent purchases- a 97 cent mosquito head net! She's going to be taking care of the pooch, fish and coral while I'm gone on my travels. Thanks Jess, you're the best! So I'm stocked with all of the usual stuff for my trip plus a full pharmacy of medications to help me ease pain, sleep, breath, ... read more

So my first travleing adventure after college (not that college wasn’t an adventure on it's own) was New York City! I had a 6 month scholarship with the American Foundation for the Blind working in their Communication Department. The job was only a small part my time there, the best memories come from the friends I made. I lived in the Menno House (it was first started by Mennonites, and is affordable housing for students, volunteers and such), though I'm not Mennonite and not everyone living there was. It was a rough start, most of my roommates didn't like me, but don't worry I soon grew on them, and now they love me! I had friends and family come visit me in the Big Apple, and did touristy stuff with them. My favorite times were doing ... read more

Six days in New York Let's do the touristy things Times Square anyone? I can’t believe that I’m in New York City again! Whoo Hoo! I love New York City and can’t wait to do some pretty touristy things while here. Once again, I’ll do the one big entry for the next six days route… Saturday, September 24, 2005 In the Big Apple The flight north was not that eventful. Basically just did a bit of napping and reading of my book. At LaGuardia Rosa picked us up and took us back to her house to see her husband Geordi and her two kids Truman (5) and Justin (3). Since they don’t know us they were super shy at first. But I slowly broke the ice with them and by the time we piled into the ... read more

Buffalo reminds me of the saucy Buffalo Wing! Buffalo, New York was the first destination I went after the camp. The reason I visited Buffalo was the Niagara Falls - The largest fall in the world. My friend and I arrived at Buffalo early in the morning but we were stucked at the bus station due to the rain outside. We walked out from the station after 2 hours later and headed to the hostel and it wasn't that hard to look for the hostel and as soon as we arrived at the hostel, we were welcomed by a very friendly staff there and she were so kind by provided us lots of useful information on Buffalo and even suggested us the itinerary during our stay in Buffalo. Such a wonderful woman :) After a quick ... read more

Well, after 4 weeks of travelling across the United States and into Canada I have now made it back to New York. I had an amazing trip, met some fantastic people and had lots of laughs. The highlights of the trip for me were completing a 12 mile hike in Glacier National Park with breath taking views, enjoying a fish supper in Seattle, going to Alcatraz and spending a day at good old Disneyland! I now have 6 nights in NYC before I come home.... read more

For the first time in the metropolis per antonomasia! My girlfriend Elektra and I decided to go to NYC to visit the city and a friend of hers, Chryssa. Chryssa's house is in Weehawken, NJ and that was our starting point for the daily trips to Manhattan. Enjoy the pics!... read more

We spent three night here at the Jazz on the Park hostel in uptown Manhatten. This was the first and last time we decided to share a dorm room in the States because it was pretty scummy and Sara got an unpleasant view in the morning of the man in the next bunk with no pants. Anyway, we spent a few days just wandering round the city doing the usual stuff - a ferry past the Statue of Liberty, walked through Central Park, went up the Empire State, visited a museum and bought some flip flops.... read more

Hey y'all!! I made it to the big apple on Monday, though packing lasted well into the night. By the way mum, it was a max of 32kg per case, not overall, so I could have brought a whole other bag of junk. Damn it... After a fairly uneventful flight in my "window seat" which didn't have a window (the guy in front did, so I tried leaning forward and peering out of his only to have my face whacked as he gently reclined his chair), I made it into Newark, got through customs and immigration quickly and without fuss. Until getting out at the other end. A Mountbatten ambassador was stood nervously waiting for the onslaught of jetlagged women from Edinburgh and Dublin, only to find that not only were we cramped and jetlagged, but ... read more

Apparently it is unadvisable to ask girls to dance while in Halifax. Sitting at a table at St. Alexander's Pub in Halifax with 2 middle aged rednecks from Red Deer talking about gas prices was hardly what I had enivisioned for my night on the town in Halifax. And so, I stood up walked over to a table of harmless looking girls and kindly asked if any of them would feel like dancing. Suddenly as if sensing my foul intentions, an arm grabbed me and forcefully escorted me into the streets. Alone, drunk and bewildered, I found my way to another pub where I was fortunate enough to join a Dalhousie University Pub Crawl. The night became a blur, telling stories, drumming on a patio outside Pogue Fadu... and waking up safely in my comfy hostel ... read more
