Hot and sticky day. I hate the humidity. But I love air-con! Okay, so I'm not really the Queen of Queens...just didn't know what to add for a title. lol I can’t believe that it is my last day here in NYC! It's been really nice seeing Maria and her parents and uncle after 15 years! It was also nice to finally meet Maria's husband Eric. They'll be celebrating 10 years of marriage this coming November. Man just another example of how time flies. This'll be a short one. Just thought I'd write a short entry detailing some of the highlights of my last six days here in New York. I love this place. Mind you I've never been here for the long term so that might be a little different. lol Here are some of ... read more

Guys! I love New York!! have spent a week here since camp finished and its so cool! been doing all the touristy stuff - statue of liberty, ground zero and the empire state building - the view was amazing! the people here are really cool as well - friendly and helpful. its definitely good to have an accent in america!! have mastered the subway - its not really that hard! and its funny to watch the locals get worried when they tell you that you're on the train heading to Queens instead of the one heading to '79th st b/w amsterdam and broadway' haha!! i wasnt fazed at all, but they were!!! also checked out a few museums - the Museum of Natural History - I saw the dinosaurs, yay!! and the metropolitian museum of Art ... read more

Our first day in New York we went on a bit of a shopping spree as Dave wanted to take advantage of the cheaper prices in the US compared with 'Rip Off Britain'. He was beginning to worry that one back pack and a couple of shipped boxes wouldn't quite be enough for a couple of years in England. On loading ourselves up with a sufficient amount of clothes and a new laptop we decided the next day that we had time for a bit of sight-seeing. We headed first to Wall Street and marvelled at the huge number of armed police that could fit into such a small area. We then boarded a Circle Line ferry and headed out to the Statue of Liberty, followed by Ellis Island (where all of the US' immigrants entered ... read more

Riding the subway The rain is in NYC Grey clouds follow me! We all had an early start this morning since Eric had to go to work and Maria had to accompany her uncle to an Appointment out in Brooklyn. So Eric dropped us off at the Flushing Chinatown and we caught the shuttle into Chinatown. We made a short stop to say hello to Maria’s parents and then I started my day that I have all to myself today. My plan was to go to the American Museum of Natural History and check out what cheap tickets I can get at TKTS for a Broadway show. The museum doesn’t open until 10AM so I wandered around a bit and found myself a Starbucks - not too tough. Lol I ordered a hot chocolate and iced ... read more

A day of eating Dim sum with the “relatives” Dinner with Tony Today’s plans all seem to be revolving around food! My favourite especially since eating is my hobby. :) First up on my list of eating adventures is to head into the Manhattan Chinatown. There’s an excellent bus shuttle service between the Flushing Chinatown to the Manhattan Chinatown for a mere $2. So Maria and I caught the bus to Main Street Flushing and then hopped aboard a shuttle bus and we were soon on our way. Once in Chinatown we met up with Maria’s parents and Uncle. They, as I may have mentioned before, were all very excited about my arrival into NYC especially since it has been so many years. Luckily I still have some photos from Christmas Eve on the memory card ... read more

Pretty laidback day Shopping, eating & shopping Day of consuming! Maria had as appointment in town today around 3:30PM so there three of us made plans for lunch at the Blue Water Grill in Union Square. Since Maria and I wanted to check out a few stores and do a little shopping before lunch we left for the LIRR earlier than Eric. Well, actually we left twice before Eric. Maria and I made it to the LIRR station which is just a two block walk in less than 5 minutes and waited up on the platform. Hmm, the train is a couple minutes late. Wait, I see it coming. That’s when Maria turned to me and said she was not feeling very well. So we head back home…No problem, the next train is in about an ... read more

All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go I'm standin' here outside your door I hate to wake you up to say goodbye... 'Cause I'm leaving on a I don't know when I'll be back again Oh, babe, I hate to go Oh man, it’s so crazy. My bags are packed and I'm ready to go. Our flight for the Bahamas leaves tomorrow (actually this morning) at 8:55am. AH! There’s a flock of butterflies in my stomach, they've been there for the better part of this week and they won't go away. I'm so nervous. Not nervous as in scared; just nervous as in I just want to get on the ship and go. I've been planning for a year and it’s so strange that I'm actually doing this... Surprisingly I fit everything that I ... read more

Lots of slow walking South Street Seaport, Ground Zero Makes for tired feet! Maria and I headed into Manhattan and walked over to the South Street Seaport area where we checked out a few shops. And then we headed to the food fair to find something to eat for lunch. After lunch it was more browsing and checking out some of the street performers. It was really interesting watching those four break dancers. Man they are super fit. Wish I could add video to this blog because I took a short video clip that was just amazing. This one guy jumped over six women! Crazy. I don’t think I’d believe it unless I saw it with my own eyes…which by the way I did. haha We did some more wandering around Ground Zero, Chinatown and Little ... read more
