If you don't know I've moved from the county park system to the state. It isn't as exciting as my time with the county, I'm not out and about as much or riding on boats but my office looks out over one of the prettiest areas in Northern New Jersey. Just today, after hours of rain, a fox mama and her pups emerged from their den to enjoy the sun that was making it's way through the clouds. Working in one of the hubs for the park's I get a lot of calls regarding other parks. I find at time that I am stumbling over words simply trying to recite their brochure because I myself have never been to the park! I'm a born and raised Jersey girl but when I reflected upon this conundrum I ... read more

"Traveling -it leaves you speechless, then it turns you into a storyteller." Ibn Battuta I'm at my son's in Denville, NJ waiting for my Empire Town Car to take me to the Newark airport. So far my 6 p.m. flight to Amsterdam has been changed twice. This also necessitated a change in my connecting flight to Nice. I know I will eventually get there and that Oliver, my Grand Circle guide will, hopefully, be holding up a little sign saying "Ms. Taylor." If not, well, I'll be in Nice, France, a place so lovely that my sweet writing workshop leader, Valentine, says is the most beautiful place on earth. I will be taking a river cruise with 40 other travelers from Arles (checking out Van Gogh's home), then on to Avignon, Viviers, Touron, Lyon, and more. ... read more

Looking for a nice bike path that is well kept, easy to ride, and surrounded by pretty scenery? Look no further than the Sussex Branch Trail in Sussex County, New Jersey. This trail which follows the former Sussex Branch line of the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad leads you 20 miles through Byram Township up to Lafayette Township. The scenery can change as you go, passing through forested landscape, swampy areas, a nice big lake and even some small communities. You can even grab a bite at the Andover Diner which can be seen from the trail! With just a 1 1/2mile gap through the township of Newton you can cruise along the railroad trail which was once used to transport high-grade iron ore from mines in Andover to the Morris Canal in Morris County. When iron was no ... read more

Today was our last adventure in New Jersey. We are hoping to get our washer fixed tomorrow so we can head out of here on Wednesday. We headed to the beach in Asbury Park and walked the boardwalk for the last time. All of the shops and restaurants were closed and it was nice to not have any crowds. The foliage pics were taken around the campsite. The leaves seemed to have changed last week and this week they are all falling off the trees. We say goodbye to the east coast for now, but I am sure we will be back.... read more

We spent the day in Atlantic City. It was cold and a little windy but we still had a good time. I even took some $$ from the Caesar Palace Casino. They say it's a city that is dying and we totally believe that is true. Several of the hotels and casinos have closed or are not looking so good inside.... read more

Our Virgin Australia flight to LAX went smoothly. We have flown with several airlines to the USA and VA wins hands down. It may be the cheaper version of Qantas but we feel we certainly get more bang for our Buck with VA. The food is always good with these guys - generous servings, hot and tasty. Just what you need on that long haul flight. Flying economy is always economy but we have found VA to be way more comfortable than their big brother Qantas. During the flight to Los Angeles I watched the sunset at 30,000 feet. That was so cool - nothing but ocean below us. Got me thinking how big this amazing world is that we live in - how lucky we are to have the technology to travel from one continent ... read more

North America » United States » New Jersey » Hoboken September 17th 2015

We took our first train ride "into the city". We decided to head to Hoboken first just get out feet wet. I also wanted to see the original Carlo's Bakery. It was cool to see where it all started. We walked the streets and saw all of the places they take about on the show Cake Boss. We then headed to the park where I was able to get awesome shots of Manhattan from across the Hudson River. Next adventure will be to head into Manhattan and see the World Trade Center complexes. Next we tackle the subways.... read more

We arrived in Jackson a couple of days ago. We will hang out here for a week or so waiting for Camping World to get a part in for the RV. A few days ago we went to Marlton, NJ to check out Carlo's Bakery. I have watched every episode of Cake Boss so I was excited to go there. We had a cannoli and a lobster tail. They were very yummy. To top is off, Starbucks was right next door. Next week it's off to Hoboken to see the original Carlo's Bakery. Cross your fingers we run into Buddy!!! Today we went to the Jersey Shore in Asbury Park. We went with a couple we met here in the RV park. She was from this area so she told us some great history about Asbury ... read more
