Sunday funday all day. Another leisurely start to the day with a late breakfast of cereal, the company of Paul a young English soldier and a quick dash to St Augustines for 10am mass. This church sits right on the Waikiki strip nestled amongst the high rises, restaurants and shops. Stunning music delivered by guitarists, 3 male voices lots of harmony and all the hymns were ones we do at home too. Lots of beautiful congregational singing. The priest was a Hawaiian native, and gave the final blessing in Hawaiian. Returning along the avenue on the beach there were lots of police cars and traffic diversions, an enquiry told me it was going to be a parade. No one seemed really confident about what sort so I grabbed Martin and we found shady seats. Cars drove ... read more

Ah holidays and a sleep in until 9-30am was in order to set up the system for the northern hemisphere. Our plan today was to walk along the waterfront and head towards the military museum. So a light breakfast of cereal and banana at 10am in the kitchen area started our morning. The nearby ABC shop is perfect for picking up things like milk and odds and ends, yesterday we did a toiletry shop at The Food Pantry which is a regular supermarket on Kuhio Ave,a 15 minute walk from here. But as you will know if you know me, my day really does not keep working until I have a coffee, sometime after 10am is best and it has to be the real deal. And as luck would have it a Starbucks is about 200 metres ... read more

Day 4 Waikiki 16 June 2015 Today was going to be another Honolulu based day which included jumping on and off the Aloha Shuttle. Some of the sights we saw were the Army Museum in Waikiki, the Oceanarium in the Pacific Beach Hotel where you can eat and watch the underwater show, the Old Market Plaza and Museum which was next to our hotel and the (pink) Royal Hawaiian Hotel one of 1st hotels in Waikiki. After a busy walking and bus riding day, we caught a taxi to the start of the walk up Diamond Head Crater which is a headland we could see from our hotel. It is an old volcano crater. The walk took about 35 minutes to the most spectacular view of Honolulu. It was a beautiful clear day so we could ... read more

Day 2 Waikiki Beach in Honolulu Hawaii - 14 June 2015 After a much needed sleep, we were ready for the beach holiday. We had a fantastic breakfast at the hotel, enjoying the scenes around and in the Hyatt Regency Hotel. The day was spent wandering around Waikiki Beach area. We visited the Garden of Il Luipino Restaurant near Sheraton and many of the hotel malls. We walked up and down the beach and saw the Surfer and dolphin statue on the beach front. We learned that this was the last day of the 15th Pan Pacific festival and noticed from the flyer we were given on the street, there were many venues that offered entertainment throughout the day. We decided to catch some of the entertainment in the nearby shopping centres for Pan Pacific Festival. ... read more

Day 1 Waikiki Beach in Honolulu Hawaii - 13 June 2015 On Saturday 13 June, we were off to Hawaii for some sun and beach for 7 days. After flying with Hawaiian Airlines for 9 hours over night, we arrived safely at the Honolulu Airport on Oahu Island, one of the 8 islands in Hawaii. We were greeted by our travel company, My Hawaiian Holiday and presented with an orchid lei. A van took us to our hotel, the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach which was central Honolulu. The room was fantastic having been renovated in March this year. There were the obligatory shops on a couple of c=floors as well as 3 restaurants and a pool with bar. The restaurants gave us a bird's eye view up and down the beach esplanade of Waikiki Beach. After ... read more

Tuesday, 13th January 2015 I took an early morning flight out from Oakland to Honolulu via Hawaiian Air. The morning snack was nothing more than a fresh fruit platter with some cheese and crackers plus a nice serving of Hawaiian Host chocolates. I am never a cheese person but I must admit that it went really well with the rest of the platter. A refreshing pineapple juice was served on board. 5 hours into my journey, I arrived at Honolulu feeling refreshed and ready for my adventure on the island. I boarded "The Bus" from the airport to my hotel at downtown Waikiki, the beach strip of Oahu Island. The whole commute took more than an hour but at just USD 2.50, this must be one of the cheapest airport commute in the world. I arrived ... read more

We started our day with a bit of snorkelling at the cove opposite the beach house. It was brimming with life and Daryl got some fab pictures of Angel Fish amongst others. We chatted to a Kiwi girl who had also taken advantage of this lovely snorkelling site before heading onto her next destination. We had our final breakfast at the grill and bid farewell to the North Shore. Almost as soon as we left, a great dark cloud descended upon us and it started to rain (at this point I wanted to turn back and stay oop north.) We decided to head into Waikiki to see if we could leave our bags at the cheapy hotel we'd booked, as this would make it easier for us to get the bus back into the city later ... read more
