Saw the moon rise as we were arriving into Honolulu. Beautiful, big and orange. Have decided to update with lounge reviews as much as travel highlights. Fun for me...here goes... Honolulu lounge was old, dark and smelly. No TV. No computer. But they get 4/10 because they offered delicious cold green tea and little packs of MACADAMIA NUTS!!! Yum...took a couple for the road. Was a strange experience...we were herded there and penned for only about 20 minutes...but (of course) first on the plane. Next stop Sydney.... read more

I made it to Hawaii in one piece. There was only one movie on the flight, and i wasn't going to pay for a pair of head phones to watch actors pretending to play golf with lots of matrix style effects. Added photos to San Francisco post if you didn't notice, will add some of pearl harbour tomorow (assuming i get there). Bye for now!... read more

hello- well I recently took a trip with my family to hawaii for christmas. My parents and my older brother that I do not get to see too often because he lives in California stayed in Oahu for seven days. We stayed in the Ko Olina resort area and it was absolutely beautiful. Ko Olina was not very populated and was a very private area that was very peaceful and free of the city of Honolulu. I would walk along the lagoon on which was in my resort area, the view to the ocean was breathtaking and I did not feel any sense of industrialization around me, until I looked to my left. THere was a large powerplant about 1 mile off the resort area, which really bothered me to see this powerplant right near this ... read more

After 2 months of boot camp and a little visit home I'm off on my own to the island of Oahu. I'm Stationed on the Coast Guard Cutter Jarvis, and its broken. Were just kinda sitting around at the pier waiting for the engines to be replaced. So I'm off to meet the locals. I wasted no time and every day after one if not sooner me and the guy’s grabbed are boards and were off. Now when I say are boards I’m talking about lots of things. there is the skate board, long board skate board, the surf board, the boogie board and of course the skin board. but whatever we were down for that day we always went in a pack. there was Tommy, Danny, Josh, Ward, Me and depending on the activity others ... read more

This morning Amanda was still a bit ill and were about to go down to the “local clinic”, but she seemed to come right eventually - not quite 100% but just about. Due to our late night we didn’t manage to get up in time for the free breakfast our Hostel puts on between 9 and 10am - so we ate Sunita’s oreo cookies and got a burger from McDonalds just to make sure that we were entering American culture in the upmost of true American style. Attached you will see a photo of Shannon standing half dead in front of me at the queue at McDonalds. We both pretty much felt the same until we had that fatty McD’s goodness in our stomachs. We then decided that eating at McDonalds every day would probably be ... read more

The other day in the other year my friend asked me where we should go away for a week in the summer. I said: "I dunno!" Then I phoned her in an hour and told her to pack up her stuff because we are going to Hawaii. I am from Europe and Hawaii seems such a dream for me so we got very excited!! We stayed in a hotel in Waikiki and we did the same things that people do in Hawaii. I am not going into details now! :) The photos were taken at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Oahu. Az egyik nap par evvel ezelott a baratnom megkerdezte, hogy hova menjunk iden nyaralni! Mondom neki: "Passz!" Aztan par ora mulva megis felhivtam es mondtam neki, asszony csomagolj, mert megyunk Hawaii-ra. Hawaii, nekunk europaiaknak hatalmas ... read more

This past Sunday evening the streets of Waikiki looked more like the streets of Kyoto, Seoul, Naha or Hong Kong as the 28th Annual Pan-Pacific Parade took place. The event is a Japan sponsored function to promote friendship, culture exchange and fun between Japan and the Local cultures. The previous morning, there was another parade through Downtown and Waikiki honoring King Kamehameha (See Previous Journal). One would think it’ll be more sensible to have spread these events, let’s say at least a week or 2 apart, but hey, I just live here. Well, I’m not complaining as I love a parade anytime or anywhere. Basically various culture groups came from Japan specifically to participate in the event, such as traditional clowns, percussion bands, dancers, singers, etc. Usually at end, something new and interesting are featured. ... read more

We had planned to celebrate our 25th anniversary in Hawaii, and coincidentally I had a business trip there in August. So we decided to combine the trips. 21 August 1997 Thursday. We departed Dulles Airport on an early flight and after changing planes in St Louis and San Francisco arrived in Honolulu at 3:30 pm. We rented a car and drove to our suite hotel off of Waikiki Beach. That evening we walked to the beach and along Kalakaua Ave to the International Marketplace where we ate supper. We also checked out the hotels and malls along Kalakaua Ave. 22 August 1997 Friday. Early in the morning we drove the Likiliki Highway to Kailua Beach Park on the east side of the island, arriving in time for sunrise. We spent the morning swimming there and the ... read more
