Ahoy there... welcome to our 1st Blog site that we hope will help us keep in touch with all of you and a way for us to share photos/videos, etc. with several without the mass emails we know everyone loves so much. We are running a 68' Swan named "Volpaia"... to our landlubber folks... a pretty sailboat. To get you up to date we are just going to catch you up to our beginnings of this new adventure. We took a job and moved out of our cute & tiny apartment in San Diego... packed up our camping, diving, surfing gear, a bit of clothes and our cat and drove to Arkansas. This could of been a travelblog in itself if we included stories of three vehicle breakdowns, a frigid night in Sedona where we were ... read more

Sorry for the multiple entries, but I wrote one like a month ago and I thought I owed you an update of the present day. I'm in Fort Lauderdale today. We finished Europe and crossed the Atlantic (with a Norwalk outbreak to keep us company), and now we're doing 10 day Caribbean runs. We stopped in Nassau after the crossing and I got to reminisce a little. It was weird going there every week for 11 months and then not having seen it for a year. And we were docked with the Fascination that day so it was even more surreal for me. Anyway, we've done one Caribbean run so far. It's not a great route. I like Aruba a Curacao and got a pretty decent sunburn from liking it so much, but Panama and Costa ... read more

We arrive in Ft Lauderdale at 7AM. Had breakfast with everyone and will wait to get off the ship together. Our flight leaves Ft Lauderdale at 3PM and arrives in Tucson at 7:30PM. Before we leave Ft Lauderdale, we are going to go to 'Skyline Chili', a restaurant out of Cincinnati; they have a franchise in Ft Lauderdale. Anyone who knows Cincinnati (Don and Judie) knows Skyline. Talk to you soon, I hope you all have enjoyed our trip!!... read more

We arrived in Fort Lauderdale just fine. Drained and very emotional. It was very hard saying goodbye to all the new friends in PR and saying goodbye to our boat Paper Moon. But we will be back! Halloween found us at our daughter Debbie's house, with a surprise visit of our son John and his family. Tears were shed by all and then we enjoyed ourselves very much. There was son in law Brian's band, hay rides, plenty of food and drink. And here are some pictures from that night.... read more

The morning dawned Ok at the motel from hell....Motel 6.This place was the pits and had it not been for the voucher we had for a free nights stay we wouldnt have been with a thousand miles of the place. The place was so spartan.Basically two beds a table and two chairs and that was it.Oh and the two piddly size cakes of soap!! With no breakfast on offer at Motel 6 we showered and hit the road early to get some breakfast before returning the rental car to the airport and then boarding our flight to Fort Lauderdale. We hit I-40 and headed for the airport about 10 miles away.We ended up at the Waffle House and stood in a queue to wait for a table at this popular spot.Breakfast was good and we left satisfied ... read more

Greetings everyone...... If you lived in south Florida, you can could understand why I'm anxious for our fall to start. In the rest of the US of A, autumn started on 22 September, but you'd never know it here. "Summer" started in June and I can't wait until November for it to end. During the course of some slow days at the shop, I found a 12 day repositioning cruise to Fort Luaderdalefor $399.00 (of course plus fuel surcharge and taxes). Sure, there were a couple drawbacks to the price: 1.....it started in Barcelona, Spain 2.....it was on a Royal Caribbean mega ship but hey, $399 is hard to turn down. So, I booked the trip along with my 2 time transatlantic buddy Dick Burns. I'll fly up to Boston on 27 October (had thought about ... read more

Holy Cow! Miami/Fort Lauderdale in July is hot hot hot with 125% humidity! After living in Germany where it's cloudy, cool, and dry unless it's raining, this was a huge adjustment for me. Luckily, even though it's a million degrees outside it's practically freezing inside because of the air conditioning. I forgot how nice it was to go from your air conditioned apartment to your air conditioned car and into another air conditioned building. It definitely makes the heat a lot easier to bear. This was my first time back to the States in a little over a year and it was so great to see everything. I got excited about the little things, like going to the grocery store (it was so neat seeing all the new stuff that's come out in the past year!) ... read more

The excitement never ends...my plane from Peru left on 6/26 at 11:00 P.M. and landed on time in Ft. Lauderdale on 6/27 at 6:15 A.M., but we had to sit for about 15 minutes waiting for a gate. This gave me (and about 50 other passengers) about 30 minutes to clear immigration and customs before our connecting flights left at 7:00 A.M. I sped through immigration with 25 minutes to spare...SWEET! Then, had to claim the baggage...as the conveyor belt spun, black bag, black bag, black bag, black bag with red bow, black bag, black bag, black bag with pink polka dot ribbon, black bag, big backpack (not mine), medium backpack (not mine), black bag...continue for 10 minutes minutes...carousel stops...many panicked faces...carousel starts again after playing strange fun house music...black bag, black bag...finally my lovely ORANGE ... read more
