On this day we left LA and headed north on a twelve hour train journey 2 San Francisco. The train wasn't 2 bad as it was through the day and for a large part we were coastin right above by the sea and u could even see dolphins out there havin a fun time. I was readin a Stephen King book that i really shouldn't have started but i now needed to finish. I got a nice distraction from the book by a native american (an "injun" 2 John Wayne) who was called Henry Quinteto and he told me about some of his beliefs and the reservation. I also ate some of his dear jerky which tasted real good and was even more amazed by the fact that he had hunted the dear himself... usually the ... read more

Feelin still very tired i departed the bus in downtown LA, it was real early in the mornin and was 2 tired 2 be able 2 navigate the buses in this way 2 big city. I came to the taxi rank and asked a driver how much it would be 2 Venice Beach 'about 30 bucks' he says. 52 bucks later i was pissed. However in the taxi we pulled onto highway 10, i thought 2 myself that it was pretty amazin that i had been on this very same road right at the opposite end of the country. A might road that travels from the Atlantic right across to the Pacific. However pleasant thoughts like that were soon replaced of thoughts of 'that fuckin meter has gone above 30... fuck sake!!' Damn taxi driver i ... read more

Well i did it, i finally left Las Vegas (round of applause, i thank u) Well i best tell u all about my last day in "sin city" i got up and started chewin through 'on the road' by Jack Kerouac the book that really made me want 2 travel this vast country. After been in Las Vegas and gettin pissed off with it i perhaps needed a reminder of this mighty country. After readin 4 a while i took a walk up 2 the greyhound bus station, that old den of inequity where the lowest of the low and the budget traveler gather to begin or continue there journey. It was lunch time it looked bad... i would be returnin again at midnight. After gettin my ticket i went back to the tod hostel 2 ... read more

Come with me! I am on the brink of another adventure in Latin America. It will take me through Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Belize. Last time many of you kept me company through this blog. I truly appreciated it and I hope you will peek into the trip now and then. I hope to improve Version 2.0 with audio and video. Lucky for me, I have real life travel buddies this time! Hurray! EA Audio Ninja Scott, Venice Beach Dave, MOM and 2 unknown travel buddies I have yet to meet. For you audio geeks out there...I have recently gotten the Zoom H2. As you know, this baby records in QUAD! I did an ultra-fast experiment today in one of those dirty hippy drum circles in Venice Beach. I am recording in ... read more

Venice Beach We had a very memorable time in L.A. Staying at Venice Beach was a fantastic location. During the day the promenade was packed with a mixture people. Some locals selling souveniers to us tourists, t-shirts, jewllery, arts and crafts the usual stuff. Others looked homeless or very hard up, begging with some comical twist. For example, a man sat all day in his chair, dressed in strange funny clothes and sang " Jingle Bells, jingle bells, help me get drunk, help me get drunk" while clutching a plastic cup for your donation. That was only one example! Around Venice Beach area, skateboarders attracted the crowds as they performed their tricks and Muscle Beach had men pumping their muscles in the sunshine too. Along the cycle path, rollerbladers, cyclists and runners flowed quickly, weaving ... read more

hi everyone.. okay so sophie and i have been in america for a whole week now which is pretty scary in itself.. its been a weird couple of days getting used to being away and the strange things about the states.. but weve been keeping ourselves busy and so just to make you all wish you were here with us heres what weve been up to.. weve walked allllll the way along sunset strip and onto hollywood boulevard which took almost a whole day (people laugh a LOT when you try to walk anywhere in LA) surprisingly there wasnt that much to see and we both came to the conclusion that hollywood is not all its cracked up to be.. we did however meet a lovely man (haha.) on the bus on the way home who ... read more

is going to have a cafe like cafe Buna near to it. This place rivals the diners in New York ad San Frensisco for its breakfasts. The pancakes are 'to die for' -and probably will add to my hardened arteries! Lots of fruit and the coffee keeps coming! Have a look at the website: /losangeles.citysearch.com/profile/41076985/ Today I was really brave and went to the J P Getty Museum by bus. I have very little experience of catching buses in towns, but with expert advice from 'Mr Ian' - the owner of this hostel. Only two changes and really helpful people on the buses, I got there! One couple of ladies from S America helped me on the way there and when we parted, they gave me fragrant lemon to eat when I am thirsty. (I am ... read more

I remember some working days when I wished for a thirty six hour day - should just have got on the plane to LA then!! The journey over was slightly surrealistic - there was no darkenss in all of those extra hours, so we were trying to sleep in broad daylight. In spite of flying north over Iceland, Greenland and parts of Canada. However, I arrived in Los Angeles at dusk and could see the 405 with all its rush hour traffic just as we came into land. The customs was a 'lengthy' procedure and I can see why so many people just fly straight onto New Zealand, rather than go through with all of the queuing and questioning!! The sniffer dogs came round and we had to put all our bags down for them to ... read more

My appologies for such a late entry however the internet is still in its infancy in Fiji so its had to wait! Day 16 10th December 2007 Lima to Los Angeles Whilst waiting in Lima airport for my flight to LA for what seemed like forever I noticed yet another delay posted on the departure boards. My flight was due to leave at 00.40hrs and the new departure time was now 3.30hrs. I did however notice another flight bound for LA at 00.30hrs so I asked to be moved and LAN Peru staff kindly agreed, result! I arrived early into LAX and called a shuttle bus to take me to the hostel at Venice Beach. I had a walk along the front and grabbed some breakfast before checking into the hostel and then hiring a bike ... read more
