Robyn and I went to Venice Beach and had a blast rollerblading. Then we got some lunch and took a siesta. Que Bueno macho man! As the summer draws to a close, fun in the socal sun is the greatest thing to behold. Rays sprinkle my face as the blades slice the cement path ahead. Robyn and I glide, now accustomed to the new rules of forward motion. But we weren't always this foot facile. Almost 30minutes before we were stumbling and blubbering when Robster took a dive in the pavement. Like a good girl she rose to her feet and vowed not to do any more Ice Princess tricks. It's a joy to fine a new peace in a city where you have lived for years. Maybe it took a while to embrace the beauty ... read more

So, today we are off to Venice beach with Jessica. She passingly dropped it into conversation at the house party; 'Do you like fireman?' Her ex is a fireman and so she thought the lovely English girls would like to go on a tour around the fire department. Oh yes we would! So, I shall be off for more beach fun in a moment, and hopefully some sliding own fireman’s poles. Yesterday, after another very chilling day, I must not get used to that, we went to Susan’s for a staff party. She is the head of department (and the scariest person I have ever met) and so basically invited us to her works do. So we all huddled in a corner feeling a bit silly and trying not to make eye contact with the staff. ... read more

Today we had to bid a sad farewell to our dear friend Sooty (aka the pea). After a rather hectic jorney from Hollywood to the bus stations, Sweep and I dropped our baggage off at our hostel in Venice Beach (suffering a VERY traumatic journey involving many sweaty large people) and raced to meet Fee at LAX Airport. We spent ages looking for her and figured she must have already checked in. We were both ready to cry our eyes out as we hadn't even had the chance to say goodbye, but then we saw her small head and her little hand waving and we both scampered over feeling very relieved. After an elated chat and a drink at Starbucks we escorted her to the check in line and it was time to say our goodbyes. ... read more

As we patted our trusty chariot on the bonnet and said our emotional farewells, we left The Beast at LAX (and what only 28 days before had been a brand new car) and embarked on our new life of relying on public transport. And what better place on Earth to do this than in Los Angeles, California (big 'Ahem!'). From the airport, we endured a couple of bus rides then a long walk with our backpacks to our home for the next few nights, the Venice Beach International Hostel. Almost all hostels in America have 'International' in their names, perhaps to provoke a cosmopolitan, grand and cultured image of the establishment. What are backpacking hostels BUT international?? Anyway, eventually, we reached this place on Pacific Drive, running parallel to the long and broad Venice Beach and ... read more

Trek AmericaKim Mwah So finally we arrive in LA after what seemed hours of no sleep!!! My journey starts with the Qantas Red Eye from Perth to Melbourne. I said goodbye to my mom and Jeremy as I boarded the flight, I would see them again in 12 days after finishing a Trek America that started in LA and finished in San Francisco. I arrived in Melbourne at 5:00am cold and already tired....... I meet up with the other 2 boys from Perth and we decided could we be bothered leaving the airport or should we hang around for 6 hours before we had to check into our next flight. Decision was made.... we stayed in the airport, got some coffee and hot chocolate and sat around talking for a few hours, before laying down on ... read more

Today we took to the hills in the morning - Mt Lee specifically. Oh, yes you probably know that the famous Hollywood sign is on Mt Lee, but Andy tells us that you can't actually get near the sign. A bit of a drive onto the nearby lookouts or overlooks. The first one on Mulholland Drive gave a view out over Los Angeles. In the foreground was the open-air Hollywood Bowl but the distance view was quite disappointing due the thick smog - no wind. The second lookout looked back to the east into the San Fernando Valley. Andy informed us that this was the home of international porn production. He hasn't received any calls for extras roles in these yet. After lunch and a sleep (for Alain) we drove quite directly to the coast, ... read more

Its been nice and relaxing here in L.A. I hung out with Owen and Courtenay on Thursday night. We got some really great sushi and then just crashed - still recouperating from the night before. On Friday Jeff picked me up after work and we went to his apartment in Venice Beach. We hung out with one of his friends who is a manager at his house in the hills. It was ridiculously gorgeous, but felt like a museum... I wish I had thought to take pictures. The next day Jeff had to teach an acting class so I wandered around Venice Beach looking at all the cheesy tourist items and the general parade of freaks. The beach was quite beautiful. That night we went to see "Blades of Glory" - which I worked on ... read more

Sorry....more tears here. I can't believe I am back in North America..... Venice Beach today, it was 31 Celsius....it was sooo cold compared to the 44 degrees I have been living with for the last few weeks.....I had the goosebumps!!!! A little story about the beach today....I took the bus, (was too chicken to take a taxi by myself in L.A.). The bus gets me most of the way there, but still a two mile walk ahead. So I am trotting along, in PANTS, and a tank top. This guy drives by hooting and hollering, so I am like, oh that's kinda cool, and flattering!! I keep on my trek, when the guy drives by again......and stops his car and waves at me to cross the street in front of him. I was so freaked out. ... read more
