Trek America
Kim Mwah So finally we arrive in LA after what seemed hours of no sleep!!! My journey starts with the Qantas Red Eye from Perth to Melbourne. I said goodbye to my mom and Jeremy as I boarded the flight, I would see them again in 12 days after finishing a Trek America that started in LA and finished in San Francisco.
I arrived in Melbourne at 5:00am cold and already tired.......
I meet up with the other 2 boys from Perth and we decided could we be bothered leaving the airport or should we hang around for 6 hours before we had to check into our next flight. Decision was made.... we stayed in the airport, got some coffee and hot chocolate and sat around talking for a few hours, before laying down on the comfy seats we had acquired at some coffee place.....
Soon enough the airport started to fill up and it was time to check in. We meet up with one of the other guys from Perth, he had flown into Melbourne the night before (I think now the smarter idea heheh). All four of us checked-in and made our way through the gates, the boys spotted
the bar straight away and started there drinking session before it was even midday (and that was Melbourne time). I called mom to let her know I’d made it safely and to let her know I would be in touch as soon as I could when I arrived in the States.
Time to board the flight from Melbourne to Auckland, all the group had arrived apart from one. We had to tell the airline they couldn’t take off, one of the girls flights had been delayed from Sydney and she just made it.
Was my first time on Air New Zealand and the service was amazing, the seats were comfortable and the food was alright (coming from me that’s pretty good, for anyone that knows me heheh).
Waiting in Auckland wasn’t to bad and it seemed to go quick, just enough time to freshen up before the long flight ahead. Was a long flight to LA but I was thankful to be seating in an aisle seat with a space in the middle, although the guy by the window seemed to claim the middle seat with all his shite lol. I only hoped he wasn’t going to put
his feet up or lay down hehe, he didn’t thank god.
Welcome to LAX airport....wwwhhhooo finally I made it and I was wrecked.... I think I may have gotten about a total of 5 hours sleep if not less and it wasn' t a solid 5 hours either 😞
So I made it through with no hassles, collected my luggage and preceded to exit with one of the other girls in the group. Outside our Trek America guide was waiting for us, her name was Emiko and the poor girl was going to be looking after 12 travel agents for 10 days lol.
Once we all made it out we went to catch the complimentary shuttle bus to our hotel, the Hacienda which wasn't to far from the airport. Emiko checked us all and then gave us an hour to freshen up before heading out to Venice Beach.
Was nice to finally arrive and it was my first time in LA. When we got to Venice beach most of us ended up splitting up into groups to have a look around. The weather was beautiful, not to cool but not to hot either.
I wasn't really impressed with
LA so far, I guess you have in your mind what you expect it's going to be like. I've learnt never to expect anything, just arrive and accept the place for what it is and what it has to offer then that way you are never disappointed.
One of the other guys from Perth and me went and sat down on the beach relaxed and chatted for a bit.
Next stop was dinner and I was starving, we all meet back at the car and made our way through the afternoon traffic. We were heading to a little Italian restaurant to meet Emiko's boss, he was the manager of Trek in LA.
After a lovely dinner we headed to the nearest pub for a drink, the guy wasn't going to let some of us in because we didn't have our passports on us and I guess they don't usually accept a driver's license as proof of age.
There was a band playing inside and it was more like a country bar then anything, in the end we moved along to an Irish Pub called Patrick Molloy's situated down at Hermosa Beach. This Irish pub was very different to any other Irish pub I had seen, there was girls dancing on the bar and the music they were playing was everything from dance to rnb.
I think it was about 2:30am if not later by the time some of us caught a cab home, I was a little tipsy but I hadn't gotten sloshed as I knew it was going to be a nice little drive tomorrow and I wasn't going to be able to handle sitting in a car with 12 other people with a hangover hahaha.
I'd lost count of how many hours I had been awake and was purely going on every ounce of energy I had left. Bed time, how nice it was to get a decent night sleep even if it wasn't for that long. I was up at 7:00am the next morning so I could get some food before meeting everyone else to leave there at 8.
