The clouds looked liek dollops of cream on the earth as my plane came closer to Cancun. As the plane descended I becae more aware that it was raining in paradise. I realize it must rain for the beautiful flora and fauna but NOT on my vacation! I am not used to this strange keyboard. I have no idea how to make an apostrophe appear, so Ill just go without. lol "Oh great. I come all this way for sun and sin and now the weathers pulling a Scotland on me! ugh. TIP#1 I have a few tips for those of you arriving @ Cancun airport. Use the Santandar ATM. Youll get a better exchange rate. I got about 12.8 pesos per dollar! TIP#2 The porters will grab your bag and ask you where you want ... read more

"You know it's dangerous there right now." This is what I've been hearing from most of the people I work with when I told them I'm going to Mexico. I've been retorting, "Most of the trouble is in Mexico City. I'm more afraid of walking in Chicago after dark than I'd ever be of Mexico." I think it's just jealousy. I'm always genuinely happy whenever anyone tells me of their travel plans. Maybe I should've lied and said, " I'm going into surgery." I definitely would've received more favorable responses. Misery certainly loves company. lol Then I'm asked, "How many people are going with you?" "None." "Oh...well I guess it's better that way." Ugh. I'm sure other single travellers, especially woman have heard this almost apologizing acceptance of travelling by yourself. Oh, how can I speak ... read more

Bienvenido a Mechico!

I've decided to become fluent in Spanish. To accomplish this I'm planning to study quite a bit in various countries. The first stop was at the IH Riviera Maya Spanish school in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. My mom is also studying Spanish, and she was able to make this trip, as well. Of the five weeks in Mexico, we spent three weeks taking classes. The reason we picked the Cancun/Playa del Carmen area was mainly because American Airlines had a fare sale to Cancun. However, it was a wonderful and beautiful place to study Spanish. The water is blue, the beaches white, there are plenty of activities (scuba, zip-lining, visiting ruins, hiking, the beach, etc.), and the food and drinks are excellent and fresh. ----------------------------------------- I flew from Springfield, MO to ... read more

We started the day on 11/24/09 by going to work just like any other person in Los Angeles, it was a cold day, and a long day at work since the exciment of going away finally kicked in. Took the bus to LAX ( Los Angeles International Airport ) got to lax about an hour later, walked into the Delta Air Lines terminal, and checked in within 5 minutes, I guess it pays to be a silver medallion with Delta. Our flight did not leave until 11:55pm to Atlanta, then from Atlanta to Cancun. arried in Cancun, went thrugh customs in a breeze, took a taxi to the hotel, ans we were amazed of the view we had, out view was the entire southern section of cancun, since we were in the upper floor. we we ... read more

Woke up early to pack all our stuff, and headed to the airport. Flew out of Vacouver at 1:20pm on a clear sunny day. We arrived in Mexico City at 8:30pm meeting a fellow traveler named Becky. From there we boarded our flight to Cancun at 11:00pm. It was a funny experience ordering food only speaking Spanish but we managed to get some without any mistakes (Matt ordered a medium agua which was funny). We got to Cancun at 1 in the morning and went strait to a hotel to sleep. Well it was a rough stay in Cancun, paying a 45 dollar cab fee. Ripped off badly, hopefully tomorrow will be better.... read more

Left Regina Nov. 6th , headed to Calgary and then flew to Cancun on the 9th. Loved the balmy weather that greeted us at the airport. We had expected the beach to be torn up from hurricane IDA but no evidence of it anywhere. AHhhh !! two weeks to just relax and enjoy the sun !!!... read more

3 When we didn't walk the ocean beach in the morning we ventured out on this path in front of our hotel .... a really nice walk to a Starbucks for coffee.
It was really nice to see that all the dishes were labelled as to what was in them .... helped to make a person a little more adventuresome when you had an idea what to expect !!

Bagefter koerte vi ud ... read more
