Day 1 Feeling the wheels of the plane land against the tarmac knowing that we have safely arrived after just over 18 hours of travelling from cold old south London to the humid heat of Cancun, Mexico we step off the plane where I finally get a chance to stretch my legs after being stuck by the window so I could give Rach the chance to rest against me while she sleeps. Going down the escalator I'm greeted by a 10 foot plastic spiderman which is promoting Coco Bongos a night club Rach has non stop been going on about. Approaching passport patrol I could see the woman had a stern look on her face so I decided to use my charm; I put on my awarding smile and approached her passports in hand. "Hola," I ... read more

Oke guys here goes, Arrived in Cancun, and to give a short summary : BAD FOOD , HOT AS SHIT , CRUMMY HOSTEL , funny looking people, beautiful beaches. Last night we sat on the main square and listened to a mexican version of Adolf Hitler rant about christianity. We cant wait to get the fuck outta here. Finding food is dramatic seen as all you can eat here are tortillas and burritos, the quality of wich compares to the worst shoarma amsterdam has to offer. Chillin at the beach is our only cool moment of the day, apart from our beautiful airconditioning back at the hostel. Enjoying the beautiful clarity of the Caribean sea. Apart from the beach all you can do here is get hassled by cabdrivers looking to pick you up, or go ... read more

Again, not much to say here as we spent the last few days of basking in the hot sun, swimming, pina coladas and a trip to an island in the mix. We caught a ferry from downtown Cancun and headed to Isla Mujeres to swim in a different clear blue water. We arrived on the island and hired a golf cart, thus ending up hooning around the island like race car drivers… driving 20km (a fast 20km). I actually raced the golf cart and beat it.... maybe becuase im that fast. The island was beautiful, with clear blue water on all sides and was so warm to swim in. after a spot of sunbathing we headed back to Cancun, only to have another swim before we headed out for a few drinks. While out having our ... read more

Back to the land of taco's and tequila, to meet Nadia all the way from Kiwi land. Landed in Cancun, and instantly felt the heat. My jeans came off and the swimwear went on..... There isn't much to say for a few days as it was spent swimming & basking in the hot sun (jealous much?). One day we saw the conservation guys digging up the turtles nests, so went and had a look. He was taking out all the hatched turtles to be released that night. So me being me, i just had to touch one. In the evening out for a walk we came across the guys releasing them out to sea, so we got in there and let some go too, was pretty exciting. On wed we felt it was time to do ... read more

Monday We greeted Monday morning with a free breakfast because Manuel agreed to listen to information about the property we are on. Rebekah and Manuel own a timeshare within the group that we are at but, of course, the owners always want the people to own how they could "improve" their ownership so for an hour of time we got a free breakfast. I enjoyed fried bananas which I had not had before. They were quite yummy! After breakfast we caught a shuttle to Mercado Venteocho...Market 28. It is a Mexican flea market in downtown Cancun. There are two parts two Cancun: downtown and the hotel zone. Downtown is where you will find more of the Mexican type shopping. The hotel zone is where a lot of the tourists shop. Again, Manuel was priceless in the ... read more

We left the Flaming Inn early in the morning on Saturday and again had scattered rain showers on our way back to San Francisco. No seeing Alcatraz on this drive. It was covered in fog. Despite that, the flight left on time and was a smooth flight to Dallas Ft Worth airport. Manuel got to see a bit of the mountains this time. A short layover in Dallas and then back on the plane for Cancun. I felt like the rain gods were following me because as soon as we touched down, the rain began again. We made it to Villa del Palmar about 8:00 that night so we had been traveling for about 14 hours. We were tired and hungry. The rooms are beautiful but we dropped everything and headed to restaurant for the buffet. ... read more

The journey from the UK to Mexico was long and I watched some films which were refreshingly unabridged (of note: 'Black Swan' - 8/10 - lots of wierd lesbian action which was a bit uncomfortable to watch bearing in mind everyone could see my screen and 'The King's Speech' - 9/10 - as good as everyone bangs on about, Helena Bonham Carter completely steals it as the Queen Mum). As a tip to anyone travelling to Cancun, you can do a lot worse than pre-booking your hostel/hotel transit with Best Day . You pay 22 USD online. When you approach them, they give you a travel brochure and plonk you to your hostel. They were very understanding about the fact that I was feeling mental and jet-lagged. I am staying in a marvellous hostel called Hostel ... read more

Hatte ... read more
