Am Abend habe ... read more

Hello my dear friends! How are you all doing? I'd like to welcome you to my adventure called "From Cancun to Mexico City". For those of you who are not that familiar with the country of Mexico and my doings here I would like to mention that I spent three fantastic months in the world class touristic destination of Cancun. This city is located at the most eastern tip of the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico, just one hour away from Havana in Cuba and one and half hour from Miami in Florida. It's a great place to live and work. I met here lots of very nice people who made my stay very enjoyable and unforgettable. Especially I would like to thank Bérénice and Julian who helped me a lot at the beginning after my arrival. ... read more

My good friend Steve was in Cancun doing research for a book he has coming out so I went up to Cancun to visit him for a few days. Bender had one of his good friends with him, Gil Carrasco, and the three of us watched David Guetta DJ a beach party. The next day, Steve, Gil, and I headed south to visit the Mayan ruins in Tulum. One video is of Gil sitting in for a set with a band down in Playa Del Carmen and the other demonstrates how crazy beach parties are in Cancun. If you thought law professors were pedantic it is time to pop your bubble. Both Steve and Gil are law professors and musicians. Steve is also the best DJ I have ever heard. He plays my favorite music which ... read more

Saturday and I went snorkeling for the morning. It was amazing swimming around on the reef with the wide variety of fish. The snorkeling group leader kept telling everyone to look down and he was certainly right, if you watched the bottom carefully you could see any number of multicoloured tiny little fish right on up to fish the size of a dinner plate. They ranged in colour from little yellow and brown fish to larger almost glowing blue fish. At one point I looked over and there was a ray swimming along beside the group. Not only were the fish amazing, but the coral reef itself was alive, as we floated about in the water, the plants waved along with the current. The fish darted in and out around the plants and coral making for ... read more

Home..... an early morning and a quick drive to the airport. My taxi driver was pulled over for travelling a little bit to fast and belive it or not that cost me 300 pesos or about 3 dollars. I was at the airport and just did not have it in me to argue with him that it should not have cost me because he had a heavy foot. In the week that I was in Cancun everyone I met was pleasant and nice so I was not about to let that fellow spoil a good thing. The flight home was uneventful as all airline flights should be. We made it home in 3 hours and 10 minutes, (the pilot was trying to beat the freezing rain to the airport) but were held up at the tunnel ... read more

A better start to the day this morning, I was up early enough to have a leisurely breakfast, and then back to my room for a quick shower before being picked up by Juan for the dentist. They took some more impressions and worked on my gums preparing for the crowns and then I was finished for today. After 2 hours I found myself walking around the largest mall in Cancun, not unlike any large mall in the US or Canada, Sears, C&A and all the various cell phone kiosks in the centre. Juan picked me up and we headed back to the Sea Adventure. Of all that has gone on this week, I find the hotel the lowest point, it is quite a distance away from everything and not at all on the Hotel ... read more

An early beginning to the day again, picked up from the hotel lobby at 7 AM then off to Xel-Ha for the morning and Tulum in the afternoon. The bus arrived at Xel-Ha at around 10:30 and we were left on our own to wonder about the site. The ocean water was so blue, like I have never see before, and crystal clear. Many different and colourful fish were swimming about. I met 2 American women and we walked along the paths taking in the many features of Xel-Ha. The Mayn caves which we partially under water, the cenotes along the side of the paths which dropped into the caves and water below. We went to the top of the river and pickup up tubes to go tubing down to the ocean, it began in a ... read more

Wednesday, up early and literally grabbed breakfast as soon as the buffet opened and then caught the shuttle to the bus tour which left the hotel lobby at 7:10. The tour left the parking bus lot at around 8:30 and we were on the road to Chichen Itza. With a stop en-route at the Cnote, a sink hole where the Mayan would sacrifice young women to the Rain God. If you happen to a bathing suit with you swimming was permitted, not so when I was here 33 years ago. I went down to the edge of the pool and watched others jumping into the pool which we were told is over 100 feet deep, climbing back up was fun but the view from the bottom had been worth it for sure. After this the bus ... read more

Tuesday: NO Pain......not any, in fact I feel better than I have done for ages. I got up early and was picked up by a shuttle to go to the Grand Mayan for breakfast and a tour. An amazing place, very like a time share only they call it a private members club..... the difference I am not sure. Anyhow I was only supposed to be there for 90 minutes and ended up there most of the day. I saw the most fantastic iguana, he was so large and just laying there basking in the sunlight. The place was interesting but not for me, so after numeous sales people talked to me they finally realized what I had been telling them all along... I was not there to buy anything on the spur of the moment ... read more

Monday, today I see the dentist. Got up early for breakfast at the hotel and then went for a short walk along the beach, the sand is white and warm. The hotel is a very family oriented place and there a quite a number of young children out on the water in Kayaks. It is fun to watch them learn how to paddle properly and avoid tipping while doing that. I did some reading and knitting during the morning, just relaxing before the dentist. The car arrived at 2:15 to pick me up as planned and take me to the dental office. The office is in a large plaza, with lots of activity going on around it. I arrived at 2:45, filled in the forms and then was taken into a dental chair. Dr. Pia came ... read more
