Cancun, Mexico No pictures taken here. This place is more than a spring breakers’ paradise, I have discovered with delight. Cancun is a haven for college students that wish to drink and party like there is no tomorrow. The strip or ‘zona hotelera’ as they call it is a very much commercialized place. When I stopped by I thought for a minute, am I really in Mexico. The business, the people, and the culture are all American. You will find there a Wal-Mart, Hard Rock Café, Hooters, and the list goes on. It was kind of like being in Las Vegas or in Panama City in Florida. I needed to get away from here after seeing it for one night. The only positive thing from Cancun is that I met an Ozzie named Michael who was ... read more

A quick note to let others know of what we found for our Cancun wedding Group that saved us time, worries and money. We just got married in Cancun Mexico. We used a company there called CancunPartyCharters.com for everything. They were recommended by friends. Our group of 150 people were treated like kings from the time we arrived. They took care of our rooms, Catamaran charter, the complete Wedding and even transportation. I think they are great. We called 1-888-348-2371 or 1-888-335-1996 and that was the start of a great, stress free time. Cheers, Lori... read more

Back in early January, Sarah, my mom, and her business partners took a much-needed vay-kay to the warm, beautiful, sunny Cancun, Mexico. (First time in Mexico. WHOO!) Five days of nothing but sleeping, lying on the beach or by the pool, reading, watching TV and eating flanksteak tacos. We were disgusting tourists who couldn't even bother to get on a damn tour bus to look at those Mayan temples. But yea. We've decided to make this a yearly trip every January HEY! So maybe next time. But yea nothing particularly interesting happened.. I did go an entire week at the beach without getting a major sunburn. Turns out sunscreen really is good for you. I sho love it. Anyways... Enjoy what few pictures we took.... read more

We hopped an early bus bound for Cancun, stopping in Playa del Carmen to stroll the busy and touristy 5th avenue for the last time. It doesn't seem so horrible now, as we are accustomed to the vendors and hawkers and just ignore them. My Spanish is better now too, so I feel comfortable looking in stores and telling them I don't want what they have without feeling afraid or intimidated. They really are agressive though. The crowds aren't too bad in the morning. We are trying to savor every last moment we have here. In Cancun, the hotel has screwed up our reservation, so we don't stay where we had planned. They sent us to their sister resort - and we spend what is left of our last day here at a fancy expensive all-inclusive......the ... read more

Wednesday, February 18th, we left Merida abruptly because of Rainbow RV Park’s lack of water pressure. Ray went to the banos (bathroom) to shower, stripped, and all of a sudden the water stopped flowing. Fortunately, he had not had the chance to lather up. It appears the water pressure was so low that when the gardener turned on his hose to water the plants, there was none left for the showers. Of course, we have a shower in our camper and with the pump on we have all the pressure needed regardless of whether we are hooked up to park water but the situation just irked Ray to the point that he refused to pay for another day. We had not actually paid as there were no managers on site. We were told that a woman ... read more

Nothing, and I mean nothing, beats sitting on a rocky cliff overlooking an ocean whose color and clarity is stunning, with a cocktail in hand as its effects slowly trickle through your system! Its like a rip of a sheet of paper that I have to pick up from here within the hour knowing I will shortly be hanging out in Houston International Airport. I honestly could sit here all day and write away in my little notebook. Why this is happening now on my last minutes to take advantage is a good question. Maybe Gauguin and Hemmingway experienced this and its why they never left their islandy paradises. The sound of the crashing see-through blue waves does something to me. Yesterday, after waking up at a leisurely 10am I wandered into the 'real' Cancun and ... read more

Eh, long time no? It has been, since I've been traveling anywhere but between Tampa, NYC, Charleston and my parents houses. But no longer, boy do I have some travel planned! And speaking of long times.... the sudden once a decade frost bite that has bitten the deep south this January has run me out. I couldn't take it anymore, and last Wednesday I did some internet desperation searching and came up with a next to nothing trip to Cancun. Mexico. Land of wet t-shirts, margarita's and college aged stupidity. The last time I was in Cancun it was 1995. Yes, I was 21 year old, as well I should have been. I am definitely aiming for Girls Gone Mild this go around though. (sorry - my alcohol limit has really taken a disastrous turn south ... read more

I thought i'd lump Cozumel, Playa Del Carmen and Cancun into the one entry, since they're all pretty much similar towns full of American tourists, with prices quoted everywhere in US dollars, despite them being in Mexico. We couldn't get accommodation in Playa Del Carmen at short notice, so had to hitch a ferry ride to Cozumel to stay in a hotel there. There was very little going on in Cozumel, which is pretty much set up for the cruise ship people and day trippers from the Mexican mainland. Did manage to find a sports bar which was showing the soccer and had cheap beers, so settled into a few buckets of those and scored ourselves a free tshirt each. Arrived on New Years Eve in Cancun and settled into our hotel before hitting the beach ... read more
