The second day i was in Guadalajara, I woke up, got ready, and headed out to meet two of Tere's friends: Ricky and Rafa. We were on our way to Ricky's house because we were going to help Rafa make a giant heart shaped rice krispie for his girlfriend for valentines day, which was on monday. It was quite the adventure attempting to make them and the mess that came with us cooking lol. It was fun though. After we finished with the rice krispie, Rafa went home, and Charly (another one of Tere's friends) came to pick me, Tere, and Ricky up to take us to his house so he could drop off this giant teddy bear he bought for his girlfriend, also for valentines day. We waited on the patio of what I think ... read more

Hola a todos! Today I am going to tell you about my day in Guadalajara. It was about 6.30am when I woke up. It just seems to be the rhythm I have picked up... But breakfast wasn't until 9am, so I thought I'd use the time to catch up on the blog and e-mails. After breakfast, I washed some of my clothes and decided that trying to wash everything at once is not a good idea because chances are that the sink will be too small and anyway, my drying line isn't long enough for all my stuff. So I only did about half. I have to say that I have been pleasantly surprised by my fleece, which I have worn nearly every day and every night and doesn't even stink yet! In the end, it ... read more

But, to be honest, we're not really beach people. It was time to head inland, back to the real folk. We got up, hailed an open top veedub golf cart thingo, and went to the bus station to catch a bus to Guadalajara. The bus was late, very late, but when you've got no place to be that is not something that means that much. Interestingly for me, one of the videos on the bus was a BBC doco about firestick farming in northern Australia – watching the indigenous mob dubbed into Mexican Spanish was entertaining. Tip for the bus – sit towards the middle. They'll let you pick the numbers – go for 20 to about 28. Far enough away from the dunnies so it doesn't smell, but close enough so that when you go ... read more

So here I was in Guadalajara, Mexico. Hot, very very hot but I was surprised of how relaxed the town was. There are about 4 million people living here, but still it is all very easy going. You can just sit on the side of the road with your map wide open, flipping through your dictionary or looking with big eyes at everything new and noone would care. I remember living in South Africa, if you would do anything like that in Cape Town you were in deep shit. I dont know what I had expected, maybe dusty roads or people in the back of crappy car like things pulled by horses. Nothing of that, instead, Hummers, Mercs, beamers, some guys longboarding down the street. I decided to be a real tourist and booked a tour ... read more

I teach English both privately and at a Canadian school during my prolonged visits to Jalisco State in Western-central, Mexico while alternately traveling back and forth from the Pacific Northwest in the US. I am honored to share highlight-photos from my little old Canon elph point-and-shoot. My photos are a creative release for me and I have treasured my various sets of world-travel photos. These photos include but are not limited to Jalisco, Michoacan, Oaxaca, Baja-California, and Colima states. Despite the current spate of media hype to the contrary, I am much safer while visiting Mexico than I am in LA, San Diego, or Seattle. It's really just a matter of perspective. The news media in turn presents a sensationalize versions of the narco-violence for the purposes of controlling people by promoting a climate of fear ... read more

HOLA FROM MEXICO! GUADALAJARA I have been here before, a looong time ago, to watch Brazil play during a world cup in the 80's. Now I return for a quick 5 day trip to the land of the mariachi, tequila, and the sombrero (big hat). Gastronomy: I always get a kick out of observing the breakfast menu of different countries. My favorite breakfasts are the simple Turkish one, with crusty bread, tomato, olives, cucumber, cheese and dried fruit, and the Chinese, with green vegetables (ok to call me weird), soup, rice and a little meat (which I don't eat). Now, the Mexican Breakfast: the first word which come to mind to describe it? weird . Tongue stew, tripe stew, fried pork skin stew and other unadendified organs stews for breakfast!!!! Those are weird foods to have ... read more

Encontramos otro lugar, ... read more
