Today we decided to take a down day, just take it easy. We ate our breakfast on the hotel balcony, our usual fruit (with pineapple this time), banana bread, and Bob's good coffee. We then took out our Scrabble board and had a hard fought game. This was one of the very few times I have won, but just by a few points. We walked down to Playa Madera, which is to the left of the municipal beach, and found a cool spot for drinks. They make very good homemade lemonade here. Good spot to walk the beach, read a book, or do a crossword puzzle. The beach was quite empty and very pleasant. Did a little bit of laundry, the quick-dry stuff, and hung them on a line in our room. Now on the bus from Morelia back to Zihuatanejo. Left at 11:15am, a little late getting out. Internet works! We are going back to warmer temps now. Decided very quickly not to blog on the bus. Internet goes in and out in this area, too easy to lose entries. Leaving Morelia, at the foot of the mountains, we saw hundreds of plastic-covered greenhouses. Also saw some funnel-shaped cement structures with door entries. Not sure what these were. Variety of scenery along the way--pedestrian bridges, pastures with cows and horses, rectangular adobe homes placed very close together, orchards, corn fields, patches of cactus. Happy two-month Birthday to Anna! (a couple of days late) Found another good spot for breakfast right by the hotel. Hotcakes or eggs, fruit, and coffee, $2.25 per person. Took our laundry to the lavenderia. They charge by kilogram, weighing it in a big bucket attached to a scale. Bob had a touch of the flu today so we didn't do much. Did some planning for our trip to Morelia and up to see the monarchs. The bus scheduling is confusing, so we need more planning. We spent a few lazy hours at a restaurant table on Madera Beach, down from the main municipal beach by the start of the walkway. We had a drink and enjoyed the view. Breakfast at our hotel, then off for a day at the beach at Isla Ixtapa. Picked up the bus in Zihuat, about $1.50 total for both tickets. We went through a part of old Zihuat, then made a U-turn taking us along the highway to Ixtapa. Ixtapa was built up as a tourist destination, so it has a completely different feel from Zihuat. We drove by the well manicured lawns of exclusive hotels and golf courses. The bus let us off at Playa Linda, the location of the pier for boats to Isla Ixtapa. Boat tickets were $2.50 round-trip to the island per person. Prices here are a little higher than in Zihuat, but still reasonable. Today was a lazy, relaxing day. Breakfast this morning on a bench close to our room. WiFi isn't reliable in our room, but better just down the hall. Later in the morning we took a walk down to the pier. As you walk along the main beach in Zihuat (Playa Madiera), the restaurant servers try to lure you in for breakfast. At the end of the pier looking out across the water, you will see Playa La Ropa to the left and Playa Las Gatas to the right, our beach destinations for the previous two days.
