We crossed over the Confederation Bridge and went on a small adventure to our RV Park thanks to my GPS. It likes to take me are lots a small roads just to save a mile or two when I could stay on the main highways to get to my destination. We stayed at Vacationland RV Park about 15 miles from Charlottetown and really close to Brackley Beach. Our site faces the inlet of water from Brackley Beach. First stop was to visit Green Gables. I visited here years ago with Heather, but it was enjoyable to visit again. After Green Gables we drove along the northern coast of the island. Went down to Cavendish Beach where lots of people were enjoying a nice day on the sand and in the water. Drove further on and the ... read more

Geo: 46.2365, -63.1282We left our hotel in Charlottetown at 8:35 AM and 72 degrees and headed off to the east side of the island. As was the case in previous days, we had to navigate manually. I am not sure if the data base in the GPS is as bad as it seems or whether it is the satellite connection up here that is not good. But, for someone who made a career designing ways to use the newest computer technologies, it is hard for me to accept doing things the way things have been done for hundreds of years, but it is what it is.So off we went, map on my lap. The weather today was wonderful, in the mid 70's and sunny. We chased the harbors along the coast following narrow and oft times ... read more

Geo: 46.2365, -63.1282Today was moving day. We checked out of our hotel in New Glasgow and headed for Prince Edward Island for 2 days. We left at 8:20 and 68 degrees and headed west after studying the maps, arguing with Miss GPS and deciding that the only way to get where we were going, the way we wanted to get there, was to use the map and the road signs, so that is what we did. And for the most part, we did quite well, only missing a turn twice all day. We took the scenic route on the north side of Nova Scotia to the Confederation Bridge that spans the Northumberland Straight. It is 13 km or about 8 miles long and takes about 12 minutes to cross. There was no toll going over, but ... read more

Author's Note: This piece contains reflections and recommendations based on a recent stay in Prince Edward Island as well as some haiku that I wrote while inspired by the sublime island scenery. If you like my poetic musings, see also url=https://www.amazon.com/Mountain-Springs-Vermont-William-Graham-ebook/dp/B017Z3FEZA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1466854466&sr=8-1&keywords=mountain+springs%3A+haikuMountain Springs: Haiku from Vermont. I concur with St. Augustine who wrote: "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page." My travel "library," so to speak, was enhanced by a return trip to Prince Edward Island (PEI) during the first two weeks of June 2016. My family (wife and 13-year-old son) and I had previously visited the island in 2014 and were so entranced that we had to return. This time we rented a peaceful house in a small speck of a community calle... read more

June 10, East Cape It rained all night. This morning the wan is covered in salt drizzle/mist. It is dry inside the wan and breakfast will be a ham and mayo sandwich. The subsequent arrangements needed have been made for the extra days now available in Nfld. since the St Pierre Miquelon trip has had to be cancelled. The rainy morning was a good time to settle all this. Once the sun began to shine the trip towards East Cape began. A stop was made at North Lake Harbour. Not a particularly pretty harbour but the beach afforded the chance to find the round end of a lobster trap, the same half round shape seen in Hopewell Rocks B&B. There it served as a frame for a lovely painting by a local artist. Frame and painting ... read more

June 13, Route 4 and last of Coastal Shore Trail Drove from Campbell's Cove to Northumberland Provincial Park during the day. Stopped in Montague, a pretty little town, for breakfast and Wi-Fi access at MacDonald's ...they had one Mac, three traffic lights, a KFC, an Atlantic Superstore, a big Home Hardware, Tim Horton’s, very nice housesand and no RBC Branch. Butter and lemons were bought at the Superstore in preparation for the evening’s dinner of flounder, mashed potato from Idaho and left over chickpea salad. Spotted Carmel and Patrick in their Melbourne RV while I stopped take a shot of a very picturesque yellow house. I followed them but at one point the call of nature was too great. By pulling into an Esso station, using their facilities, buying a double scoop ice cream (will not ... read more

June 4, Friday… in search of North Cape, a perfect day except for the fact that the sun did not shine. The MacAusland Woollen Mill is a short distance north east of the campground and it was the first destination of the day. There were no cars in the parking lot as there had been a few days ago. Lights were seen inside the building. Peaking in any window that was low enough for me to reach I saw no workers. Because there was no number beside the notice in the Coastal Drive booklet I dialled the tourism office. The man that answered was having a day off. He was nearby so he came to the parking lot. Seems the place did not open on weekends. The tourism guy was very kind to have interrupted his ... read more
