Day 6-7: Yea! We are headed out on our own for a 2-day road trip. A big circle starting in Halifax, Nova Scotia, up through Prince Edward Island, down into New Brunswick and back to Halifax. The day started out cloudy, rainy, with fog on the bays. Turned out the private limo from the Westin to the airport was $10 less than a cab so, no decision here. Eli, our driver is 52, lived in Halifax his whole life, and regaled us with a lot of history of the area. As we passed an unusually large IKEA, Eli gave us his opinion of our President and his hopes that he will be out and this "craziness" will end soon. The airport is about 30 minutes north of downtown Halifax. The roads all over Canada are wonderful ... read more

Ugh! As usual, I am way behind blogging. Right now we're on the train to Winnipeg - a 34 hour trip. Hoping I can catch up a bunch. PEI and New Brunswick (6/1-6/4) We again landed back at North Sydney and again ate dinner at Bette’s (a hole in the wall with great inexpensive homemade food – lots of carrots and turnips (have I mentioned the carrots and turnips? The only vegetables they seem to have in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia). We headed south through Cape Breton and stayed at Ann’s Airbnb halfway down the island. Ann was quite a character who lives in a charming 100 year old house. She had 2 friendly horses and even a cranberry bog on her property. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to check it out, nor did we want ... read more

We got a 9:00 am start to our day on Friday. We were headed to Prince Edward Island for the weekend. After a 5-hour drive, we arrived at our accommodations. Our plans for the evening were to head in for a bite and then onto the Confederation Centre of the Arts to see a production of Jesus Christ Super Star. This was the first time I had seen a theater production and Gene’s 2nd of this particular one (first one 43 years ago). 😉 We had appetizers and beer at the Hopyard. Nice apps & beer, but the music was a little loud. I guess I’m officially getting older. After dinner we were headed to the performance. It was really amazing. The singers/actors were excellent. We had really nice seats that were quite comfortable. After the ... read more

English Version Follows (Scroll down) _______________________________ Jour 40 - Mardi, le 17 juillet 2018 - Eldon, Point Prim (Î.P.E) Réveil à 06h00 ! Il ... read more

Right sunlight streaming in through the skylight above the bed woke us up this morning. Looked as though the worst of the rain was over! We packed up the camper after breakfast and headed out to explore the island. The only nagging thought in the back of our minds is we really wanted to make it to Grand Manan Island in New Brunswick in the next few days and we still had some ground to cover before we reached that area of the province. Regardless, we headed off to explore Prince Edward Island but as the day progressed, the weather deteriorated. As we were holding our baby with us with our traveling stroller to make sure that our little girl will enjoy every single moment with us We spent some time at Lucy Maud Montgomery's home ... read more

As we came into port the coastline was lined with people as this was the maiden voyage a Disney cruise ship has berthed in PEI. We were extremely lucky to dock at the wharf this morning as the tide was very low. Thankfully Captain Mickey decided to take a chance. There was a small delay for going ashore as they had to modify the gangways this meant our onboard time was extended by 1 hour ... more shopping time for us. I’d booked us onto a private Anne of Green Gables tour with Harry through Duncan’s Tours. We were greeted by a Canadian Mounty and a Anne Shirley lookalike as we came ashore. We located Harry in the Cruise Terminal, which was full of shops with a craft market. As we headed out of town Harry ... read more

Started our day on PEI by touring Green Gables Heritage Place – the house that was the setting for the book “Anne of Green Gables”. We saw a short film, took a tour, toured the barn and house and walked in the Haunted Wood. The house and farm were owned by cousins of LM Montgomery (the author) grandparents, who raised her. She lived a short distance away and spent time there growing up. Anne was also there and we watched her and friend Diana act out the part from the book where Diana drinks the raspberry cordial and gets drunk. We went to Cavendish Beach and finished the kids Xplorer program. We learned a little about bees, lobsters and other shellfish and played in the red, rocky sand. Rick and Maggie built a stone house. Today is New Brunswick Day (the first Monday in August) which is a day off for many. We aren’t really sure what NB day is – but discovered that everywhere in Canada has this day as a holiday – some call it Civic Day, others after their province, one after a person. Canada Day is July 1, so this isn’t their national independence day, but as it is the same date nationwide it can’t be a province anniversary. So, just a day set aside to celebrate your province! But they were handing out Canada 150 flags – celebrating Canada’s 150th We started with a walk of the bog in Kouchi, which included a tower to view the area. We hoped to see moose, but didn’t. We went to Callander’s Beach and visited the Migmag wigwams. To ... read more
