Tuesday 26thSeptember 2023 Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island Captain announced whilst we were at dinner last night, that the reason we were late leaving Port in Sydney yesterday, was because we had dragged up another anchor!! This caused lots of laughter in the restaurant as we had lost an anchor on the other side of the ship, in the hurricane!! (Apparently, we could still sail with one anchor because of the stabilisers on the ship!!) Anyway,we didn’t have high hopes for Charlottetown as Prince Edward Island (PEI) is said to be very flat and the only thing worth doing was Anne of Green Gables Museum (which we weren’t doing!!) as she was born in Cavendish on the north coast! Decided to just have a wander on the Historical Red Route (as advised by Tourist Info!!) and duly ... read more

The weather has not been cooperating. We did have a sunny day but it was a sea day. Those who went ashore returned chilled and wet. Needless to say I wasn’t one of them. When I first started cruising I wanted to explore every port. Now i’m content to relax on board and enjoy sharing meals with other guests. Have been blessed so far. Such fun people. Last night I dined with Peter and Denise from Perth. They are on a eighty nine day odyssey and this is just a small segment. From Montréal the are driving to Toronto and a family reunion, then on to Vancouver. From there they are sailing to Sydney with stops in Hawaii, Polynesia and islands in the South Pacific. After a flight from Sydney to Perth they arrive home at ... read more

Road trip 2022 kicked off with us driving to the United States border, crossing at Coburn Gore. This would be the first time I would be entering the USA since the pandemic began. From there we found a way to Nataris Campground for our first night. The sky was overcast with clouds, but no rain was falling yet. We set up camp and boiled some water to eat a few packets of ramen noodles. Not the healthiest of dinners but it would have to do for the time being. As our camp was enveloped in darkness, the sounds of loons could be heard across the lake. The next day we departed early and continued down route 27, stopping at a small diner for a greasy breakfast. A few hours later we reached the city of Bangor. ... read more

” Dave has pleasant childhood memories of going camping at age 14 with his father on Prince Edward Island. From early in our marriage, I’ve heard his reminiscences. It was a joy to experience this location with Dave.” Merry Jo There are times when you gather your expectations, only to see them exceeded by what is conceivably some of the most pleasant scenery acre for acre in our travels. Prince Edward Island, part of the Maritime Provinces of Canada is such a place. On this trip we are traveling with our friends Chuck and Martha who live near St. Louis. We all met when we were working in Pittsburgh more than a few years back and now finally had the opportunity explore a new place together. We landed in Halifax, Nova Scotia, scooped up ... read more

Day 6-7: Yea! We are headed out on our own for a 2-day road trip. A big circle starting in Halifax, Nova Scotia, up through Prince Edward Island, down into New Brunswick and back to Halifax. The day started out cloudy, rainy, with fog on the bays. Turned out the private limo from the Westin to the airport was $10 less than a cab so, no decision here. Eli, our driver is 52, lived in Halifax his whole life, and regaled us with a lot of history of the area. As we passed an unusually large IKEA, Eli gave us his opinion of our President and his hopes that he will be out and this "craziness" will end soon. The airport is about 30 minutes north of downtown Halifax. The roads all over Canada are wonderful ... read more

Ugh! As usual, I am way behind blogging. Right now we're on the train to Winnipeg - a 34 hour trip. Hoping I can catch up a bunch. PEI and New Brunswick (6/1-6/4) We again landed back at North Sydney and again ate dinner at Bette’s (a hole in the wall with great inexpensive homemade food – lots of carrots and turnips (have I mentioned the carrots and turnips? The only vegetables they seem to have in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia). We headed south through Cape Breton and stayed at Ann’s Airbnb halfway down the island. Ann was quite a character who lives in a charming 100 year old house. She had 2 friendly horses and even a cranberry bog on her property. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to check it out, nor did we want ... read more

We got a 9:00 am start to our day on Friday. We were headed to Prince Edward Island for the weekend. After a 5-hour drive, we arrived at our accommodations. Our plans for the evening were to head in for a bite and then onto the Confederation Centre of the Arts to see a production of Jesus Christ Super Star. This was the first time I had seen a theater production and Gene’s 2nd of this particular one (first one 43 years ago). ? We had appetizers and beer at the Hopyard. Nice apps & beer, but the music was a little loud. I guess I’m officially getting older. After dinner we were headed to the performance. It was really amazing. The singers/actors were excellent. We had really nice seats that were quite comfortable. After the ... read more

English Version Follows (Scroll down) _______________________________ Jour 40 - Mardi, le 17 juillet 2018 - Eldon, Point Prim (Î.P.E) Réveil à 06h00 ! Il ... read more

Right sunlight streaming in through the skylight above the bed woke us up this morning. Looked as though the worst of the rain was over! We packed up the camper after breakfast and headed out to explore the island. The only nagging thought in the back of our minds is we really wanted to make it to Grand Manan Island in New Brunswick in the next few days and we still had some ground to cover before we reached that area of the province. Regardless, we headed off to explore Prince Edward Island but as the day progressed, the weather deteriorated. As we were holding our baby with us with our traveling stroller to make sure that our little girl will enjoy every single moment with us We spent some time at Lucy Maud Montgomery's home ... read more
