Hello! I dont know who I am saying HI to really, but whatever. So... I am starting a blog to keep me on track. To prevent me from buying that pair of shoes or new jeans while I am trying to save money. I am living in Canada right now, not really much going on in my life... I want to go back to school (again) but not just yet, and I dont have an important job or a boyfriend, so going to Europe for a while seems fitting. I am 22 years old, will be 23 in nov. I have two younger sisters who are quite settled in their cute little lives. One is engaged, and will be married next year, the other is 8 months pregnant and living with her boyfriend. Definitly not my ... read more

Well we are now in PEI. Thursday I took it easy. I sat in second cup for 2 hrs enjoying an iced americano and searching for places to stay in PEI. Thursday night we went out again with Brett's work group. We went to a really nice Italian place and had a 4 course set menu for dinner. We than stayed out very late enjoying East Coast hospitality. To bad for Brett that Firday morning he still had to go to class for 8am. On fri I packed us up and picked up the rental car. We were driving out of Halifax by 3pm. We drove over the Confederation bridge rather then taking the ferry because it is way faster. It took us only 3.5 hrs to from downtown Halifax to our B & B in ... read more

Hi All! Arrived on Prince Edward Island yesterday afternoon. Had a great time in Nova Scotia, took a couple of days to get some things fixed! The cyclometer is now working, I completely repositioned the sender and receiver (it's wireless). For those of you that know the integrated rear wheel lock on the Koga Miyata, I found out how to remove it! It was heavier than the cable lock I was carrying so the Koga lock was jettisoned!!! And as for the MSR stove, turns out the store where I purchased it sold me the wrong fuel bottle, so I wasn't getting a good seal. After a cold dinner 1 night, I found a Canada Tire store in Truro and bought my old stand by, the Coleman Peak 1. So nice to have a clean stove ... read more

We left Maine in late June to begin our summer in Atlantic Canada. After washing the coach and car, we drove 2 days in intermittent rain to reach Prince Edward Island. Of course, we had to wash the vehicles all over again when we got here. The only way to drive to the island is over the 13-mile Confederation Bridge from New Brunswick. We were glad it wasn’t too foggy that day. PEI, the “Green Island,” is lush, with rolling hills and farmland. The population is around 135,000. Fishing, farming, and tourism are the main industries, with potato farms in abundance. PEI is famous for lobsters, blue mussels, Malpeque oysters, scallops, clams, and fresh fish. We are definitely enjoying the seafood. Island strawberries are now in season, and they are terrific—not too big but really sweet ... read more

One quick note about Halifax before moving on to Cape Breton. There is a relatively large casino on the wharf in Halifax. We had to see the competition so went in. The floor plan/layout was the same as all other casinos we have seen, but very light and airy. That is because the entire wall facing the harbor was windows. Great views from a casino. They also don't stay open 24 hr. David went by the next morning around 10 AM while the computer was being worked on and they were closed. Certainly not the Las Vegas model. After leaving Halifax we drove to Cape Breton Island in the northeast section of Nova Scotia. Rugged mountainous landscape with rough rocky beaches. The first day there we drove the Cabot Trail which goes around the perimeter ... read more

PEI!! We love you!!! We arrived in PEI after cycling 81 kms to get to the ferry. We had planned to find a nice place to camp on the other side of the water in PEI and call it a day until we arrived there...it was warm, breeze-less, hill-less, green; it was absolutely amazing and had Brad and I wondering how a 70 minute ferry ride could bring us from a grey fisherman's land to lush green paradise!! We were so pumped we eneded up cycling another 36 km before arriving in Orwell. Orwell is a little historic town that we expected to be much like Fort Langley. We expcected a nice small town to spend the evening in and at the least, we hoped for a gas station so we could get some supplies ... read more

After the bus journey from Halifax to PEI, we've now decided that it's a rubbish way to travel and should not be encouraged. It had been cold in Halifax but we were still unprepared for snow the first evening in Charlottetown! And there wasn't even a cup of 'steeped tea' to be had to warm us up. Steeped tea by the way is the 'new' thing to have chez Tim Horton's (a cross between a healthy McDonalds and a baker's). In essence it's tea that has been left in the pot for too long but presumably is being sold in litres to holidaying Brits who aren't big fans of the local, weaker tea. It should however have included in the price some sort of dental treatment to remove the high amount of tannin. Arrival on the ... read more

Motorhome News from North America 18 21st - 28th July 2006 Prince Edward Island Alrighty, let’s get started. An eight-mile bridge separates Prince Edward Island from the New Brunswick mainland, sweeping like a giant snake across the wide Northumberland Strait. 140 miles long east to west, and up to 40miles across, PEI is home to 170,000 people who would doubtless never dream of living anywhere else on earth. The short summers are mild and sunny, the rolling fields so green and fertile and the ever present sea flows gently back and forth on shallow shores where the Micmac Indians once fished. The winters are long, chill winds drive down from the northeast and snow will blanket the ground as the sea freezes, cocooning the island to sleep out the winter. The French called it Ile St ... read more

After a brief overnight stint in Toronto and a quick visit with my Aunt and Uncle and friends Shemina and Alex, I made my way to the home of the potato, red dirt, and Anne of Green Gables. My dad picked me up at the airport and despite having to wait for me for over an hour due to a delay on the Toronto end in an airport that makes Edmonton International look like Heathrow, he was in good spirits when I got off, as it’s the first time we’ve seen each other in six months! Surprisingly, he was also in a good mood despite still not having his luggage from his flight five days previous. Funny story about that: Since he had some time to kill, he and his wife, Joan, went to the lost ... read more

Odometer: 37063km For the most part, today's ride just retraced my previous trip back down to Antigonish and New Glasgow, NS. From there I went to the ferry at Caribou to go to PEI. I planned to spend a day and two evenings in PEI, but that was not to be. On my way to Antigonish, I turned off the main highway to take the old road that wound along the coast. At Havre-Bouche I stopped in to Gary's Quick Mart and met Gary. He is the brother-in-law of some friends of ours and they suggested I look him up. Unfortunately Gary's store had been broken in to the previous night so he was pretty busy and wasn't able to take the time to talk much. I certainly understood his situation and said my goodbyes to ... read more
