It’s incredible the way time can get away from you. It feels like I just posted an entry yesterday but another week has passed. We enjoyed my Aunt’s family bbq, especially the boat ride around the point and Deer Island, no whales showed up this year, but it was a beautiful time on the water regardless. BJ and I enjoyed a few more days of relaxation and then finally packed up and headed on to P.E.I. on Tuesday. It’s a fairly quick drive from Saint John to Charlottetown, but we took our time sightseeing along the way. One of the stops we had to make was Magnetic Hill just outside of Moncton. You enter the park, pay $5 and drive over to Magnetic Hill where you drive to the ‘bottom’ of the hill and turn around ... read more

The plan for today was to make it to Therese's Aunt's Sister's house just outside Montague, PEI where we would meet some family, enjoy a nice house, and spend some time relaxing. Montague is only a short 60-ish km from the University in Charlottetown, so we knew we had time to spare. We decided to sleep in a little in the morning, and didn't head to the university cafeteria until about 8:00. When we got there, we bumped into the Assphat Wheelers again, and had a nice relaxing meal with them, discussing more about our respective trips, and plans for the next few days, and biking in general. These guys were really great, and it was fun spending a meal with them. We also exchanged Blog addresses. By the time our relaxing breakfast was over, and ... read more

We were well into the fourth song when the man on my left side turned to me and shouted into my ear. We've got to get you up so you can daunce! You're going to daunce, aren't you?" "Daunce?" "Yes, daunce!" I took a moment to consider this. The guitars and stomping feet made it difficult to make out what he'd said, but after a few seconds I realized I had stumbled upon yet another piece of local dialect. "Oh, you mean dance!" "Yes! That's what I said! Daunce! We've only got a couple of songs until lunch." "Lunch?!" "Yes, lunch!" Something was wrong now. It was nearly 10:00pm - surely he didn't mean lunch. Then I began to smell the fresh tea, tuna sandwiches and baked desserts. They were being laid out on white plastic ... read more

Who has been waiting eagerly to find out which ice cream is better: Cows or Billy Lumberjacks? We were certainly curious to find out, so our first destination this morning was the Cows creamery. It was about 5 km away, so we decided to bike there; it was the first time we've used our bikes on a day off, and without all the weight on the backs it was quite a treat. Even the uphills seemed easy. We were expecting a large factory but the whole operation was actually small in size. With only 10 locations across Canada a larger factory wasn't needed. In fact, they weren't even in ice-cream making mode today, they only do this three times a week, but we still got to see where it was made, and watch a video about ... read more

Another short day turned long by bad biking conditions... There was not much in the way of restaurants near the motel we stayed at last night. Luckily the motel itself had a restaurant where we planned to eat breakfast, and we were told upon checking in that it opened at 7am. So at 7am we were outside the door, wondering why the lights were off. We went back to our room to finish up any last details and get completely ready to go, and then came back at about 7:20. Still nothing, so we rang the night doorbell. Upon answering, a sleepy looking man let us know that on SUNDAYS, breakfast didn't start until 8. Too bad, that's an extra hour of sleep that we could have had. We might have felt bad about waking him ... read more

What You Don't See

We began our day with hopes that the biking portion would be better than yesterday. We wanted sunny skies and little wind. Our target for the day: province number 4! (PEI). This seemed pretty do-able with only 90 km or so between us and the bridge, but if the conditions were anything like yesterday, we weren't making any promises. After our free continental breakfast, complimented by two eggs each ordered on the side, we got going by about 8:00. The first stretch was chilly, and a little wet. There was no rain, but there was so much fog in the air that it was more of a fine mist, as fine as , and it was humid. It wasn't long however before the sun came out and chased away the clouds, and the day got much ... read more

It is our last day in PEI.  Heather needs to work so we are on our own for the day.  We decided to head up island to see Souris, Red Point and onto Basin Head. On the way we got a text from Alison asking for more money.  Sigh!!! We stopped in Souris to transfer money over at a info stop.  The internet is wonderful I think!!! One of the best things we did was bring a netbook.  It is used everyday for research finding accommodation or checking for things at home.  We had a great time at Basin Head. It was really crowded but what a riot there is a large tidal lake and a narrow channel connecting it with the ocean, also there is a Bridge over the channel  kids were jumping in the ... read more

TRAPPED - (performed by Bruce Springsteen) Well it seems like I'm caught up in your trap again And it seems like I'll be wearin' the same ol' chains Good will conquer evil and the truth will set you free And I know someday I'll find the key Then I know somewhere I will find the key Well it seems like I've been playin' the game way too long And it seems the game I played has made you strong Well when the game is over, I won't walk out the loser And I know that I'll walk out of here again And I know someday I'll walk out of here again But now I'm trapped! Ooh yeah! Trapped! Ooh yeah yeah! Trapped! Ooh yeah! Trapped! Ooh yeahhh! Now it seems like I've been sleepin' in your ... read more

So Wecolme back to our amazing adventure. We left off last time when Rene and I were on our way to the Maritimes. August 28, 2010 we rode from Riviere du Loup on to New Brunswick. Amanda had e-mailed us to tell us to check out a place called Hopewell Rocks. We thought we would probably camp somewhere along the way and make it there the following morning. On our way to Hopewell Rocks we took a little back road that took us along the river. In Hartland New Brunswick we came across the "Longest covered Bridge in the World". The bridge is 1282 feet long. What a cool and unexpected discovery. Well we got going after the bridge and there really wasn't a ton of stuff to see on the way, so we ended up ... read more

All in one day I saw the highest tides in the world, the longest multispan bridge, and drove around the beautiful PEI. The next day saw Anne of Green Gables home recreation(it is after all only a story, but don't tell that to the thousands of Japanese who go), and went to an amazing red sand beach. I spent 2 days in Charlottetown and saw a stage musical of Anne of Green Gables. I think PEI's economy survives on Anne.... read more
