We were so excited to be on our way, then…… our Fan-tas-tic (or not so) fan broke. Still it was not all bad because as luck would have it we were driving right past the factory on our way to the Border. The web site said “call in any time, we will be pleased to repair / replace your fan for free”. After a month, what difference did another day make? So we delayed our plans for a day to call in… Well they certainly lived up to their claims We felt like royalty. After a greeting and a quick run down on the guys political views (i.e. he apologised for Bush, very refreshing following Elkhart) a quick Tourist Information Service chat and free coffees, we were taken on a tour of the factory. At each ... read more

We have been keeping very busy with school, work and all the other little things that just seem to take up all of our spare time. We went to Halifax for a few weeks last summer and we just wanted to include a few photos from that trip to start off this travel blog before we head anywhere else. It was a lot of fun and we say A LOT of the maritime provinces. We landed in Halifax where we stayed at Mount Saint Vincent for a few days and took in the sites before picking up a rental car and hitting the coastline. We then spent the rest of our vacation driving the coast and checking out the tourist sites. After exhausting Nova Scotia we headed off to New Brunswick before crossing the Confederation Bridge ... read more

Louisbourg Fort is a great place to visit, but be aware that you may not get in too easily. You will be challenged by a mean looking French Soldier as you enter the gates. This is a definite must see.... read more

Motorhome News from North America 21. 20th - 31st August 2006 Newfoundland Gros Morne National Park, Cornerbrook, and back to the mainland; Louisbourg and Cape Breton Highlands ‘The past lies as much in realm of the imagination as does the future.’ Paul Zuker Another day, another week, another message bringing news of travellers in a far-off land. Ours is not intended to be so much a diary of events, but more an endeavour to capture our observations, our memories and our experiences of the past within the imagination, much as one would in a photograph. The future is the challenge in the hands of the planner, the dreamer - whichever way the stick floats or the wind might blow, the anticipation of another day, another tomorrow. You might have wondered why we should want to share ... read more

This is my first entry folks, so bear with me. It's Sunday morning, and I'm at my laptop setting to words one hell of an experience in North Preston, Nova Scotia. North Preston is an "all Black" community in Nova Scotia; an old friend from Brooklyn got married to a born-and-bred Nova Scotian yesterday. And what a wedding it was! Gerald told me his wedding was in Nova Scotia, and that he was marrying a native - and I asked him, "There are Black people in Nova Scotia?" And congratulated him on the nuptials too. Turns out there are, and they are the descendants of African slaves escaped from the States. They stayed up North, and built something. Now, 70% of Blacks in Canada are of Caribbean decent, so there are cultural differences from these folks, ... read more

July 26 - August 20, 2006 Saranac Lake, N.Y. - Louisbourg, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia 16,409 miles to date 2,853 miles this leg Today, August 20, we crested the eastern-most point of our round-the-continent road trip: Louisbourg on the magical tip of Cape Breton in Nova Scotia—what we consider a little piece of Ireland that has washed up on North American shores. The official longitude: 59 degrees, 58 minutes west of Greenwich. That’s 62 degrees of longitude (or more than one-sixth the circumference of the globe at that latitude!) traveled from Port Townsend, which lies at 122 degrees, 45 minutes west. We’ve turned the corner. From now on, every mile traveled is a westward one. We can hardly believe it. Cape Bretons justifiably consider their homeland to be the center of the universe, so when locals ... read more
