With less than 48 hours before my flight to Cape Town, I'm still madly scrambling around to get everything in place. I haven't embarked on an trip off continent since I was 5. I still haven't firmed up travel plans after the motorcyle tour and safari with John Valk. Should I attempt to backpack my way to Tanzania for a trek over Kilamanjaro? ... read more

Hello I'm now in downtown Vancouver having crossed from Victoria this afternoon. The BC Ferry ride from Vancouver Island is really scenic and not dissimilar to those in the Western Isles of Scotland. I spent exactly one day in Victoria having yesterday had an equally attractive voyage on the Victoria Clipper (Catamaran) from Seattle. Washington State and British Columbia are really nice places to be. I had a look around Victoria which epitomises "nice" though it was a short day as I went to bed ridiculously early. I think I'm getting all the jetlag at once (poor me). My hotel room in Vancouver is on floor 26 of 42 which I find both exciting and intimidating but the view is undeniably spectacular, if a poor excuse for the cheesy title of this Blog. I've just been ... read more

Getting all the paperwork in order adn have recieved Dakotah's Math textbook so she can keep up with her school while we are away. And we recieved our prescription for Malaria Prevention. It seems you have a choice between terrible horrible or really bad side effects. So we got prescription for the side effects too. I took a few days off of preparation as it felt like it was taking over along with trying to get all my work stuff completed before I leave. We presented or plans to the Church on Sunday. I was so nervous during the presentation. I'm not too sure why I was so nervous but Dakotah did awsome presenting her part. I am so proud of her. The night before presenting I recieved the preliminary list of things that we ... read more

VANCOUVER, THE ROAD TRIP and WHISTLER Not updated blog in a while - Ill explain later on! From Little Rock I flew to Vancouver via Phoenix. This meant flying over the Rockys and even the Grand Canyon - what a great flight! The plane wasnt full so I spent the whole flight going from one side to the other enjoying the views and taking photos (I took OVER 100 PHOTOS!!!!) - the pilot would come on the intercom to point out all the different sites - it was like a tour guided trip, amazing! Will put some photos up of this as well as all other photos taken to date as may not have the internet for a while... So arriving in Vancouver I was greeted by Aussie Laura, Matt, Renata (Matt's girlfriend who has joined ... read more

The days are getting closer and closer to my long awaited journey to India. I have been excited for so long and now I feel a tad nervous. I have read many books and blogs about India. Ranging from amazing to Oh My God!!! I even found a great website with tons of good info including the procedures for the left hand if you know what I mean. Even though I live in the warmest most beautiful city in Canada I think it's cold today. 6 C I knew it was cold. Enough whining now already onwards and upwards. So some of the must sees are an afternoon by the ocean at Jericho Beach, now is the perfect time of year to enjoy quiet meditation there just you and the ocean. Dress warm and bring a ... read more

We have begun to spread the news of our upcoming travel plans and mission work within. Today was a nervous presentation to our church Gateway City Church in Kamloops. Dakotah said her part confidently tough. She was amazing. March 13th we take off to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe through Heathrow and Johannesburg. We will arrive there 2 days later on March 15th, hopefully with smooth luggage transfer through Johannesburg. Of the many tasks I have to do before the day is learning how to load photos onto this site. I'm sure that you will all want to see what we see. Hope all is well as it is with us. ... read more

I've bought my lonely planet book and a spanish book of phrases...i think i'm almost ready! I leave Vancouver on a bus (I think) and fly from seattle on Feb 22 on a red-eye that arrives in San Jose, CR at 730 am. I have my first night booked at the Pangea hostel (http://www.pangea.hostel.com/) and plan to leave the next morning for my trip to the pacific coast. I will be returning (via Seattle again) on March 20. This country is TINY. From what i can tell, its about the same size as Vancouver Island. I've heard that the roads are bad and its harder to get around, but, I'm pretty sure that if i hear something good about a certain area....I'll just go there. The itinerary doesn't include dates or times. I'm planning on doing ... read more

For those that aren't aware of my current surroundings, I have found a job, car and place to live in Kelowna, British Columbia. I'm working at a long-term care facility as an O.T, where my responsibilities are, but not limited to, making those at the end phase of their life more comfortable, independent and (hopefully) happy. It's a great fit, and I typically end my days refreshed and ready for extra-curriculars. I pinch myself regularily, reminding myself of how lucky I am to be gainfully employed, gained membership in a great group of friends, a wicked family and every seeming opportunity. I'm trying to keep up with my current schedule of skiing 3 times per week and climbing mon/wed/friday at the local climbing gym. The recent media frenzy has caused me to "put my pedals where ... read more
