We left Vancouver on our 6 hour bus ride which turned into a 7 and a half hour bus ride due to the weather and poor visibility from the snow. We stayed in Kelowna, the town closest to Big White resort (about 1 hour's dive away) for 2 nights where we bought all our ski gear. We went out for pizza but missed the end of the Superbowl (Indianapolis Colts beat Chicago Bears) but it isn't anywhere near as big here in Canada as it is in USA. Then the next day we moved up to Big White. We stayed with Waz, his sister Heidi and their 3 other housemates in a 2 bedroom condo for about 1 week. It was a little difficult to find long term accommodation here. The reservation centre only does short ... read more

After a fairly quick flight from Tokyo (8 hours goes quickly when you can chose you own movies on your own tv screen and play computer games) we landed in Vancouver. We arrived at about 9am. The Canadian Customs was a bit more serious, they all wear bullet proof vests in the airport. They checked where we were coming from and what passports we were travelling on and waved us past. Then we completed immigration and collected our luggage before completing the working holiday visa stuff, which has been of no use anyway as we decided not to work at all. Next we took a taxi with a crazy Indian driver to our hotel. Vancouver isnt all that pretty. Its mostly dirty and you can tell from the streets that the city has a drug problem. ... read more

It seems to me that our journey has already begun as we prepare to head across the world. Planning for health planning for helping and figuring out the details. Learning what to expect and how to have no expectations. There are many things to do still but I am eager for that day to come. ... read more

We will be staying at the covetted HI-Vancouver Central That night we are hoping to hit up MEC to see if we can get some last minute gear. At the least it will be an entertaining evening. Then there will be 4 days at another hostel. I will try to update then!... read more

Well, as hopefully you know by now we made it home with no worries - despite the best attempts of the good old British weather to stop our plane landing. Having slotted back in to the ways and luxuries of England (far too easily) we had Christmas with the families before heading up to Blakeney for new years on the Norfolk coast. We decided that if we were going to cook anything (everyone was expecting dinner!) it had to be a curry... so we spent all afternoon on the 31st trying to understand our scrawled recipes from our two cooking courses in India. After a good few hours we'd cracked out a few dishes that were by no means 'export quality' but did the job that evening! The night went down pretty well and thanks again ... read more

So, today is the day. After gaining a whole day extra because I thought our flight left this morning, I am, for the first time, packed and ready for the trip a full 3 hours early! So exciting. Our flight leaves tonight at 8:30pm and then it is "London, here we come!" So to all you people in London and Cardiff, get ready for us. To all the people we have said goodbye to over the last few days, we'll miss you and see you in May. Sarah... read more

Well. It's been ages since I even checked out any travelblogs, let alone update ours. Lindsay and I have been busy as beavers at the university. Planning events, studying hard, volunteering at the Women's Resource Centre, etc. On weekends Lindsay has been the responsible one, working at the Marmalade Cat Cafe (a cute and cosy coffee shop here in town) and I've been snowboarding my precious study hours away- what a pity! :) This week is reading break, I am traveling to Toronto for a visit with family and friends and Lindsay will be up at Big White, enjoying the snow and time off of work! Hopefully we will both get some reading done though, seeing that it is 'reading' week. Anyway, more photos and adventures to come - hopefully sooner than later! peace, love ... read more
