So, here we are. Five days untill the plane takes off and it is just starting to sink in. Jobs are done, but still have to pack and move, plus visiting friends and family before we leave. It feels both far away and very near. Begining to notice a bit of stress. -Sarah... read more

I've been settled in Vancouver for a couple of months now so I suppose it's time to inform everybody what I'm up to. However, it may be easier to tell you what I'm NOT doing!! I am hosting another 'Around the World' talk as the 'Babe with a Backpack' on THURSDAY JANUARY 18TH & again on THURSDAY JANUARY 25TH. The tips and tales have been revamped and all of the photos have been re-edited for a jazzier event. And the sponsorhips are pretty big this time around as some of the door prizes include a Thailand trip, travel gear and travel books to set all of you globe trotters on your way. And the self promoting reel has been pretty busy too; for those of you in Vancouver, here is what is yet to come. -radio ... read more

It’s been hard to keep my blogs updated. Internet café’s have been difficult to get to so that’s why Rohan and I have been sharing blogs. We’ve been in Whistler now for the past 7 days and it’s finally time to say goodbye to the mountain and head off back down to Vancouver. Whistler Blackcomb is an amazing place to visit. Boarding on these mountains is absolutely awesome. Whilst staying here temperatures ranged from 0 to -30 degrees and that’s thanks to the Arctic Blast that you may have heard about in the news. And let me tell you, I don’t work well in -30. We only managed to get up the mountain 4 out of 7 days to snowboard, due to strong winds. Roh and I went to buy lift tickets but we were told ... read more

Well, we are heading out on another journey. It is about -5 here and a bit above the usual temperature, but I am not complaining, as in a few weeks we will be in singapore, australia and then in newzealand. With that said, most of our time right now is spent getting plans togeather and working on locations of sites we want to visit. A new backpack and some smallish gear has been purchased for this outing, and I have yet to get another tent. The last one was a bit of a flop and leaked alot. But that should be sorted out in the next week or so. ... read more

Well its been another 4 weeks since my last entry, and again im on a bus, this time back to Fort Mcmurray. Ive just finshed my break and am about to go back to work up north. Im on the bus with all oil sands workers and they just started the movie, “The Ice Princess”. At least no one on the bus would have seen it. A good time to write my new entry I figure. I had a great Christmas. Jesse’s family made me very welcome, which I am thankful for, and it made being away from home a lot easier. Santa even visited me over here. He must have got the change of address I sent him. Christmas day. We had breakfast with Jesse’s family, including her 2 brothers and her soon to be ... read more

Kwahu-Tafo is one of a group of towns on the high Kwahu plateau, about three hours' drive to the North West of the capital Accra. It has approximately 5,500 inhabitants with an unemployment rate of 80%. This means that many children cannot attend school for lack of money for books and uniforms. Also many of the schools are in a poor physical and financial state. The indigenous tongue is Twi, one of the Akan family of languages. Kwahu is the name given to both the area and the local tribe, the Kwahu people having established their identity when they separated from the belligerent Ashanti Empire and removed to the mountain range that lies between the Ashanti capital Kumasi and the great expanse of the Volta Lake. The Kwahu Ridge contains some of the highest ground in ... read more

We glide into Vancouver direct from San Fran, the plane is buffeted a little as we land. I’m back in Canada!!!, as most of you know I have a soft spot for the land of the maple leaf. Something about this place, even though it’s freezing and has snow top mountains surround the city of Vancouver; it somehow reminds me of home. During our stay we Rode around Stanly Park, visited the Beluga whales at the aquarium again. And Cam, this time we didn’t get wet. We stayed out of the splash zone. I have been to the snow every year for the last decade, Perisher, Thredbo, New Zealand and even Canada 2 years ago. I have never seen so much snow as I have in the last 72 hours. Friday the 5th we woke to ... read more

Hi, Sorry it's been a while since my last entry. We're back in Vancouver now after a whirl wind trip in a campervan. We had a lot of fun hitting the highways around Canada and especially America for a few weeks. We picked up the campervan from Vancouver and started driving across to the Rocky Mountains but unfortunately weather wasn't really good and some of the roads were closed at the time so we decided to head down into the United States. We drove down the west coast from up here and went to Seattle, San Fransisco (drove over the Golden Gate Bridge and even went on a day trip to Alcatraz which was cool), Los Angeles (Went to Disney Land, California Disney & Universal Studios, drove through Hollywood, Beverly Hills etc), San Diego (went to ... read more

Hi everybody, Well we are still planning the last few details fo our trip. Main things are organized. One of the places in Thailand that we will visit is an orpanage for Thai children who are HIV-positive or have AIDS. Karen and Ricky are the main care givers, they started this 6 months ago and as of now they look after 8 children. They are planning on expanding within the next year. The kids school had a Christmas concert and collected around 1000.00 CAD in donations. We are leaving Vancouver at 1.45 AM (would Starbucks still be open at that time for my last coffee ?) on Jan 15th, flying to Hongkok - Bangkok - Ko Samui. We should arrive Tuesday around 6.00 PM at our first hotel. " Ko Samui Resort" - perfect time for ... read more
