Hey guys So, I've included some pretty boring pics of Whistler just so you can get an idea of where I'm living right now. Have I told you how fab it is here? I had a couple of days off work last week so being the spontanious and crazy person that I am, my house mate and myself decided to head to Seattle for the weekend. Bare in mind that we decided this on the friday evening!! So we jumped in my car and off we went (Via Vancouver to get a fried breakfast cooked lovingly by my good friend Richard), crossed the border with little effort and down highway 99 (well, actually we got onto route 5, god knows how, but ended up in Seattle anyway) and hit the city at full tilt! We arrived ... read more

This update is quite long because I am covering several days... I woke up at 8AM for the last time in my own bed on June 9th after a very short night since I went out with my friend Frank and got my blog running after so I ended up going to bed at 5AM. I immediately started packing, printing things that I needed, took care of "administrative" stuff that I hadn't done yet (why do something early when you can do it last minute?), depacked and repacked just to make sure I hadn't forgotten everything and generally just stressed about everything. It finally dawned upon me that it was starting, my trip was no longer just something I was telling other people about or something far away. For the first time I really felt like ... read more

Hi Everyone, We have finally become international travelers; we officially cleared customs this afternoon and are staying outside of Vancouver. The past couple of days have been filled with some of the most beautiful scenery of the trip. After leaving the Olympic Peninsula we went to Seattle for the day and saw the major sights of the city. We started off by strolling through Pike’s Place Marketplace where they have outdoor art, food, and souvenir vendors. There must have been something in the air that day because I didn’t actually buy anything, I must be developing frugal ways while on this trip, I don’t like it. I used to be such a souvenir sucker. After Pike’s market we visited Pioneer Square, which is supposed to be the historical district, but it didn’t quite work out like ... read more

Vancouver…. We had heard stories about Vancouver before we even arrived and it didn’t let us down. A fantastic city (said that about many places I think!) and it was great to be back in Canada again. The journey up was made all the better as we met a couple of guys who were staying at our hostel in Seattle called Nathan and Paul so the journey wasn’t as boring as usual. Although saying that over the last couple of months we always have something random that happens on a greyhound bus….usually involves a Mexican trying to sneak on. Anyway, customs was cool….Fran didn’t get harassed by a burly customs official so it didn’t take long to enter Canada again. First impressions were good, had to stomp a bit to the nearest ‘sky train’ station and ... read more

http://www.travelblog.org/gmaps/map_1k4.html greetings fr the vancouver airport (YVR)!!! day 10 of my stay here in vancouver for a month-long law summer session at the University of British Columbia is spent at the airport desperately waiting to get home to my family. Vancouver is beautiful. It's so lush and green. I've noticed the Canadians really do speak w/ that "eh!" it's so cute. Anyway the first few days in Vancouver was bearable, but after feeling like I was about to have an anxiety attack yesterday (1june06) I booked a flight to go home to spend the weekend w/ my family. I've met lots of wonderful people from the program. About half are from my school (Southwestern) and a bunch others are from other places like Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto in Canada, GA, MI, Lolyola Law in Los Angeles, and ... read more

Being a Xavier Rudd fan for a while now but never having the privilege to see him perform live, I didn't hesitate to snap up a couple of tickets when I saw the advertisement in the local Georgia Straight newpaper. Ari left for Sydney to attend his brother's wedding 3 days before the concert leaving me with a spare ticket. No one wants to see a concert by themselves and lucky for me, a friend of a friend of a friend who I've never met before was keen to come with me... you beaudy! So I met up with Jen before the gig for some Mongolian BBQ - it was just like the Genghis Khan restaurant in Sydney. The venue for the gig was the Malkin Bowl at Stanley Park (one of North America's largest urban ... read more

So as I said in my last entry Matt and I have both got jobs at a cruise company called Princess Cruises, we have now worked there for about 3 weeks and can only say good things about it. Saturday and mondays are days when ships come into port and we need to offload around 2500 ppl and load another 2500 so that's fun, both days are 10 hours days but we have also had a 15 and 14 hour day due to ships being late and the like. Everyone we work with are awesome witht he number one being of course Heidi. We both worked with Heidi at Cypress and she is the main reason we have these jobs now. So there are about 60-80 shore staff working for princess and of those 60-80 there ... read more

Hey y'all, Hows everyone doing? Well this is it. One adventure finishes, and another begins. Tomorrow, I move out of my comftable surroundings of Vancouver city (and sofa) and up the windy path to Whistler ( to a matress)!! This past week i've been partying (nothing unusual there) going to late night viewing of X-men3 (after drinking, Hairy Ape Man its wicked!) and climbing up Grouse Mountain (again after drinking). Does anyone see a pattern developing?? Grouse was pretty cool. Its only 2k up, but my god did it work the leg muscles. Rich and I took a steady pace, taking our time, only to be over taken by OAPs who do the grind once a week. Infact, some insane people run up it. Personally, I think thats an urban legand though!!!! It can't possably be ... read more

So far so good. Although we got to the airport a wee bit early (3:45 a.m.) the check-in counters didn’t open until close to 5:30. Luckily we were at the front of the line. But it was okay, Robert passed the time with the word puzzles my mom gave him (Robert says thank you very much mom, it’s been his favorite book the whole time!) and I read magazines and danced around (much to the chagrin of other not-so-excited passengers who weren’t so lucky to be flying first class or going to Japan). The Maple Leaf Lounge was fabulous. All you can eat bagels, muffins, fruit drinks, coffee, and yes even hard liquor. No, we did not imbibe at such an early hour, but after 6 bagels (they were small! Think Lender’s frozen baby bagel size), ... read more

Well, I'm back in Vancouver. I had an interesting last little bit in China being followed up the coast by a typhoon that wouldn't leave us alone. I guess the highlight was finally getting out to see the Great Wall. We did a ten km trek along the wall on really the only really nice day last week. And now I'm doing laundry and trying to find warm clothing to wear because 16 degrees just isn't what I'm used to any more. I've added photos to the previous entry as well. It's nice on a computer that doesn't take an hour per photo.... read more
