Part 1 As you know, the next exciting destination on our intrepid World Tour (after Peru) was St.Helens, Merseyside. (AKA: home) We’ve popped a few pictures of my brother’s wedding on here - the wedding was fantastic, the Bride looked beautiful as did the bridesmaids…and the Groom scrubbed up OK too. The weather was lovely, and after Pimms on the lawn, we partied like it was 1999 (again). We had a great time at home…..trust me, Blighty is lovely when you’re not working (!!) and predictably I shed a load of tears when saying goodbye to my family, but the World Tour continues and just 13 days after returning home we began our epic journey back to North America………….. Part 2 Yes, I know we’ve been to Seattle and Canada already but this is the Summer ... read more

We've been putting this one off a little while we get over the jet lag, but we are finally home on Canadian soil and loving it. We met Nick's parents in Germany and it was wonderful to be able to travel around with them for a couple of weeks. We stayed with some of Nick's mom's relative near the Black Forest and Bruchsal. This was a beautiful area which we were able to explore because Nick's parents had rented a van. We got a personal tour around the Bruchsal castle, toured around Freiburg and even went for a short walk in the Black Forest. Sarah enjoyed her birthday at the beginning of July with all the family around. She has decided to adopt the German birthday tradition of eating a wonderful homemade raspberry cheese cake for ... read more

What can I say.....everytime I come to canada/vancouver there is no getting away from the awesome beauty. The smell of the air is different, the trees are green and lush and magnificant....the people are soooooo friendly.....that crazy accent is everywhere.....the customer service...EXISTS.....The flight in is always so great and the vancouver airport is such a showcase of the rockies. Well done canada! Of course I became privy to one very disappointing change......TIM HORTONS.....the classic CANADIAN icon that gives you a big warm fuzzy everytime you come to suck on the sweet nectar of a Medium Double Double......is now....AMERICAN! You heard me right......for those that are as new to this info as me...you will be going through a moment of complete silence and dismay.....and then it hits ya......TIMMY you SOLD OUT MAN! Slowly but surely.....roots was taken ... read more

As we flew over the great expanse of Canada we actually caught up to the sun. It had be dark when we took off from London, Ontario but after a couple of hours we were able to relive dusk, hypnotised by the thin, burnt copper rim of the world arching around, dividing black sky from black earth. It was surreal, lasted not nearly longer enough and soon our attention returned again to the inflight movie. After five hours in a plane - the last of such trips for a while - we were touching down in Vancouver. I am ashamed to say that I once though Vancouver was the capital of Canada. I recall that Jim was absolutely horrified by my ignorance and quite indignant that I should not know it was Ottawa, adding that he ... read more

Back in Vancouver. Tour finished up here and the family has left for LA after a long night of packing and repacking. There's not much left to do in Vancouver so I'm taking advantage of the tv, my own bed and bathroom and the ability to spread my stuff out as much as possible which may be the last time I get to do that in a very long time. It's going to be a bit tough moving from 5 star luxury to the world of slumming it in grimy hostels, but I guess that's the price you pay for..uh..not being rich. Yeah. I had Indian for lunch today. Vegetarian at that too! Mum, you would be proud.... read more

Vancouver day 2! Every traveller's nightmare day 1!!! I lost my wallet somewhere! It was either 1) Pickpocketed 2) Left at some dark seedy bar somewhere 3) Accidently dropped or 4) I hid it so well that I couldn't find it anymore. I panicked and panicked. Luckily I still had my passport in case it all falls apart. Luckily I had already paid for all my hotels and airfare and such and after a freaked out phone call to Ile, a close friend, she suggested I work with our bank to get me some funds sent to me so that I can continue with my trip. I really just wanted to go home but I got convinced into refusing to give up on this trip! So Vancouver, Victoria, Seattle, here I come! (With $600 tucked into ... read more

First day in Vancouver! Its back to hostels too! This one wasn't so bad and its a great value too! If you don't mind crummy places and just need a place to rest your head for the night. I highly recommend them. I spent most of my day at Stanley Park. Its a great place to explore with an aquarium stick right in the middle. The trolley takes you around the island at a leisurely pace. However it did come to an abrupt stop at one point. Then I saw a whole bunch of people making a dash to something that was happening in front of us. People started snapping pictures and going crazy and when I got a closer look it was just a raccoon eating from a bag of chee-tos. Big deal! I see ... read more

Upon a friend’s suggestion I’ve created this site, so that instead of sending out mass e-mails every now and then, people can check in if and whenever they want to. I’m only gone for a month and a half, so I’ll use the site mainly to post pictures… once I buy a digital camera.... read more
