I am now counting down the hours before I leave. All the exams are written by my students, we are now in the process of counting books and cleaning rooms. It's still hot here in Vancouver. Well, let's say, it's hot for Vancouver. I am about to test my tolerance for heat while travelling around Greece, Turkey and Egypt. I have less than half of my trip planned and all pre-booked. There is a 6 week gap between my time in Athens and my time in Istanbul that is not booked: I am going to drift around the Aegean Sea where ever the breeze sends me. My 2006 summer Odyssey. I am sure I'll come back with stories of Sirens, nymphs, being blown off course, vicious sea storms, and the cyclops. But I've only got two ... read more

It's Sunday, 5 days before I leave for my hot holiday in the Eastern Mediterranean. And it's hot here in Vancouver, so I guess I'll be travelling to Greece to beat the heat. I have all of my items purchased, and my home is nearly clean enough to be left for my summer house sitter. And with England winning their round of 16 game today, I am keen to go to London to watch their quarter final game against Portugal. I'll be saying good-bye to my students this week as they write their final exams. I hope they do well, despite the heat wave that will distract them. And I'll be saying goodbye to my friends, family and colleagues. I have three weeks planned in Greece, three weeks in Turkey and two weeks in Egypt. A ... read more

After a day of relaxing in Banff town, we got on the moose network again - this time the Chinook tour Banff to Vancouver via Revelstoke & Kelowna. This bus had 4 Japs, 2 Swis and 2 Auz's. After meeting these people I think that i have found a new vocation in life - teaching swear words and English slang (and this is from a Welsh person that English people find it hard to understanding - what chance to foreigners have!?!). I taught the Japs the difference between funny and fanny and that the 2 words were VERY different, the difference between rocks and sucks and many more that CANNOT be published. When they understood something new, they sounded like the aliens in the coin operated machine in toy story - oooohhhhhhh! VERY FUNNY!! Mand on ... read more

Well, here it goes. A few hours to the flight, many butterflies, but a real sense of expectation. The past few days were very full, and exciting. I got of to a good start forgetting my golf clothes, so played some hip-hop golf and got a good lesson taught to me. The weather has cooperated well, so a nice send off in that regard. It is a strange feeling to finally stop talking about this trip and actually start doing it. Will miss all the folks that are in Canada, especially Penny, but am looking forward to all the new people that are about to enter this little life of mine! My eyes are big, open, and ready for what is to come. First stop, Beijing!!!!... read more

After absolutely minimal sleep (for both of us) we were up at 5am to prepare for the long trip ahead. Made it to Canberra airport at 6ish and after MASSIVE lines through security (monday business trips i guess) were up in the departure lounge. Both lots of families were there to wave us off, along with Sam and Mick and Chloe (who made it just as we were about to walk onto the plane!) The flight to Sydney was ok, arrived in the airport and had to check in and stuff almost straight away! Rang Prue cos her and Jo BLUDGED and were still in bed at 8 so didnt come see us off! Had a quick bite to eat and chatted to a Kiwi guy who tried to sell us this phone network thing. Then ... read more

"Every dream is given to us with the power to make it come true" - Kinga Freespirit The first time I "planned my route" around the world, I was 17 years old. It has always been a dream of mine. Now, 17 years (and a 10 year old son) later, my itinerary is finally final!!! As most of you know, my life has been crazy the past six months - a flood, a fire, homelessness and a robbery. I wouldn't change any of it - no regrets. Everything really always does happen for a reason, and now my dreams are coming true. I am finally going around the world, and I'm taking my favorite person with me - my son Jordan. And like always - I'm taking the long way. My itinerary: August 23 Leave for ... read more

We have finished the roady and are living the high life in vancouver at the Creeches. They have taken amazingly good care of us and have made us feel very at home. We managed to repay the debt somewhat by doing some painting for them.... in between swims and hot tubs. It was good to celebrate fathers' day there with the family extended.... read more

Her name was actually Renee but I called her Pandora because of her Porche Boxster, we met, duelling on the freeway…just like a worm, parts in the middle are perfectly motionless while other bits accelerate …but the system is fantastic, freeways get you a long way, very quickly…just don’t miss your turn off…aarrgghhh…hours later… the striated concrete often runs askew to the lane markings, (the striations made by a roadworker with St Vitus’ Dance dragging a huge rake down the line of the freeway, roughly) and at high speed, and with constant buffeting, gusseting turbulence, hazardous!…but the signage is great, but sometimes disconcerting, a huge electronic sign on the freeway advises a child abduction and gives details of the car involved!…..but once off the main routes, the signage is often missing…..I did an 80 mile loop ... read more
