heyaz! So these days have been fun. I've been doing exciting things like getting subscription drugs, packing up my apartment, getting things ready for Chicago afterwards, getting my travelpack set, getting my slides ready, as well as getting some rough plan about what I'm up to. I just came from the Cambie from my leaving drinks. I love that place! $8.25 (Canadian!) pitchers of classy beer with completly unclassy service. Rock. But everyone who is amazing showed up and it was a nice send off. I'm going to miss people here. But I know I'll be back. I hope they realize/remember it! I have very little packing that remains tomorrow but I'll be spending a lot of time at school to finalize my slides for the conference (boring!).... speaking of which... I'm presenting in two workshops ... read more

We're back. Here was everything thanking their lucky stars that we made it to the end of our trip and back to Vancouver safe and sound. No more blogs to endure - hah!!!, we've enjoyed writing them so much that we've decided to keep them up. After all, they are such a good way to share even more adventures with friends and family who are dotted the world over. So, we made it safely back to Vancouver on November 25th 2005. After a wonderful year away and lots of lovely sun and heat we hit the cold weather with a bump. Bbbbbrrrrrrrrrrr comes to mind when we walked out the airport. It didn't help that all our belongings were in storage and couldn't get them until we found a new place to live. Since we were ... read more

Started the day with great excitement at the thought of seeing pods of Orcas, followed by great disappointment at our breakfast! Our hotel claims they provide a free continental breakfast, and when we checked in they informed us that we would need to collect vouchers; however we didn’t think too much about that at the time. At reception we collected our breakfast vouchers which turned out to be Mc Donald vouchers for a free coffee and muffin!!! Continental breakfast my foot! I guess we will be frequenting the neighbouring Mc D’s. Liisa nipped in to collect breakfast, orange juice and fruit and fibre muffin, then we made a swift departure and drove to the nearest camera shop 30 minutes away so Gail could buy a new camera lens cover! As Liisa hopped out the car, her ... read more

Had a hectic start to the day...was glad to be departing late. My arrival at the airport was late (shocking I know!) so I could only say a quick goodbye to W. Oh well...no time for tears that way. So here I am now, the Maple Leaf lounge! Eating a veggie burger, sippin a Guinness, not to shabby! Thanks to EB...row 12...AWESOME! I'm going to enjoy this while I can...who knows what lies ahead. Customs was a breeze. Expect to be in Honolulu and Sydney 2 hours each, then onto Melbourne. Here I go!... read more

Hey Everyone, Well so much for me trying to do this regularly and keep it up to date and all. But seeing as i'm staying here for a bit longer now i figure i'll start now and make more of an effort to do it. So first to catch up on the last 4 months. Getting Here So everything was pretty uneventful on our flight from Brisbane to Sydney, and after being in Sydney for around an hour or so we were off to LA. We managed to get emergency exit seating thank the lord, with Matt and Toby both being 6'4" they were pretty happy. We arrived in the US and after getting though customs, which involved me leaving every jumper I owned on the plane and Matt and Toby nearly getting arrested by a ... read more

I have in my travels come to appreciate the wide and varied world of Tim Horton's doughnut menu. I have decided the chocolate glazed is my favourite - its like cake and doughnut combined into a wonderful disc of happiness! I am still on the search for a bear-claw but doesnt seem to be as common as I expected... still there is plenty of time and plenty of tim hortons across this great country! UBC & Kitsilano Beach Did a massive walk along the waterfront from the University of British Columbia (UBC) all the way along the 'beaches' back to Granville street. I think in total it took about four hours. I didnt start out to do it all by foot but kind of lost my way off the main road and couldnt find a bus ... read more

I waved Mick and Lucy off at the bus station in Jasper and spent the next three hours alone until my train arrived to take me over to Vancouver. I think those three hours were the only 3 hours I've spent on my own since leaving New York, it actually felt quite odd not being with the others despite it literally only being for a few hours. I saw a train pulling into the station an hour before I was due to board so I headed down to the platform to see if I could board early. I saw two lads with backpacks getting off the train and asked then if it was the train to Vancouver. They were from Switzerland and they'd just arrived from Toronto and were going to be staying in Jasper then ... read more

Vancouver is a beautiful city! Sprawling, clean and surrounded by snow covered mountains - so different from home! Its took me a little while in the first few days to get used to being on my own and that I am here for a while - it still feels like I am on holiday and will be back home in a couple of weeks. I booked into the H.I when I first got to Van. It was a nice hostel and they put on free breakfast every morning but it was much quieter on the social side of things so later on I moved to the Samesun across the road. At the HI I was sharing with two english girls who were really nice and a crazy bag lady we called Margerie. first doughnut Did Grouse ... read more

I hate fire alarms, as it was a fire alarm that woke me up at 2.30 in the morning as somebody decided that it was a good idea to through a fag butt down a trash shoot. So everybody had to evacuate the building as it takes 4 fire trucks to put out the smallest fire(why you need 4 trucks I have no idea). I have to wait for at least 45 minutes in my pj's be for they let us back to bed. This mornig I looked out the window to be confronted with a hail of rain, then I realised that this area of the world is rain capitol of the world (expect maybe Manchester). As I only have a ski jacket with me I through it was best that I brought a rain ... read more
