Breathtakingly set amidst mountains and sea, Vancouver is definitely one of the most naturally picturesque cities I’ve ever visited. I’m here presenting at a conference and thus was holed up at the hotel for the past 2 days. With much relief the presentation went well, informative albeit humorless. Saturday morning I was able to escape the confines of the symposium hotel and did one of the things I enjoy most about traveling…wandering around alone. Like a homing pigeon I found Davie St, which (judging from the lampposts festooned by rainbow banners and the store windows displaying all sort of leather wear) is the gay area. For the modern gay traveler, visiting gay ghettos is like the medieval pilgrim visiting holy sites, it just has to be done. No matter how similar they all are. The same ... read more

The night before leaving Vancouver, we invited our friends to join us at the Yaletown Brew Pub for a final farewell. It was great to see everyone together, but sad to say goodbye. Here are some photos from that evening, and some other ones of the good times spent with our great mates! We love you guys! ... read more

So it's been a little while since the first entry and I just thought I'd give a run down of what has happened. Since the last entry work at cypress has officially ended, big staff day of boarding and free food was put on for all staff from the season. Was a really good day and good to get in the snow one last time. That night went to a going away for one of the aussie girls from the mountain, got conned into going to the gay bar here in Vancouver because apparently it was "straight night." Rest assured straight night is still pretty crooked and no one knows it better than Matt!! Since then our lease at our apartment has run out and we have been staying at The Samesun backpackers hostel in downtown ... read more

I'm writing this in Vancouver in my friend's family's house where we are staying for a few nights having left Whistler yesterday.its really emotional seeing as i've lived there for 5 months. so to update you on March and April.. had some huuuge powder days which was amazing fun to ski and meant you could go crazy and have a nice soft landing..also taking kids out i made a mistake and ended up wading through knee high fresh snow to search for 7 kids' buried skis..oops.but the kids told me i was better than their other instructors cos i was "more fun" so that was great. I did have a disaster day when i had to take my valley kids to whistler mountain rather than blackcomb for a day and as i didnt know how slow ... read more

Moving to a new apartment with dad and his girlfriend is certainly an exciting change. But I’m astonishingly confused as I stand right in the middle of a room-full of garbage, and start to wonder how could I manage to live comfortably surrounded by these junks? “One’s waste might be other’s treasure.” My 10-years old little cousin Eric once told me this. Words of wisdom, take it. So I start to pack almost all my clothes, and run back and forth between home and children’s hospital donation box. Five times, I’ve successfully cleared everything and fortunately have not yet overloaded this massive blue iron box. After selling some of my books to the second-hand bookstores on Commercial Drive and letting the garbage can take my photos, certificates, and CDs, I feel so relieved. The room looks ... read more

We have one week exactly until we are on a plane and off to begin our travels! We are so excited. Of course now is the time to pack our clothing and our apartment as it is being rented. We have to be out of here as of Sunday at noon. You never realize how much crap you own until you have to pack it up and put it all away in storage! Packing for the trip has been interesting... Good thing we are going in the summer where the weather will be fairly pradictable, otherwise I would want to bring even more. I've been reading all our travel books, they all have packing advice and websites to references... These books bring a whole new meaning to packing light. I really like the idea of packing ... read more

Well folks, as you can see, my location has changed once again. I have once again joined the Canadian population. The exact location is a bit wrong, but that's because they don't have Chilliwack in the TravelBlog database. But that's where I am now, Chilliwack, British Columbia. Let me tell you, it's great to be back. The air smells fantastic, the streets are clean, I'm not afraid to go outside, and I'm SURROUNDED BY MOUNTAINS AGAIN!!! My precious precious mountains. *Drool* This morning people were talking about how it's such a lovely day outside, but of course Sandi and I are freezing our butts off. Going from 40 degree weather to 10 degree weather is a bit of a climate jump. So yeah, we're kinda cold. Yeah yeah yeah, I know we're back earlier than we ... read more

Hello once again, you have found me sitting in an Asian gaming cafe on Robson Street in the Downtown area of Vancouver... I shopped around and $2cad p/h was the best I could come up with as far as net cafe's go and this one seems comfortable. In this journal I shall cover my 5 days in Seattle and my 5 days in Vancouver, which I have been touring by myself. Im pretty tired right now, so I hope this entry will be interesting... we shall see. The alarm blasted we awake as usual, I awoke from a deep sleep to the sound of rain gently falling on the roof of my Aunty's home in Salt Lake City for the last time. I bid farewell to Louie after a few drinks the night before and the ... read more
