Well, I'm only 24 hours away from heading south to Utah just outside Salt Lake City to view the World Superbike racing this weekend. Needless to say I'm getting quite excited.....in fact the last time I had 5 days off work was last September when I was recovering from a stroke. Anyway on with the news......... I think I've figured out a way for everyone to track me as I head North. The other two guys travelling with me (Andrew and Adam) don't know about this yet. I'm not sure if the "Big Brother" idea will be a winner with them. I'll keep you posted. Anyway, here's the idea. Go to http://www.blacklinegps.com/ and click on LOGIN. Use my new email address nevilstravels@gmail.com and password alaska to gain entry to the site. Once there click on TRACKING ... read more

Hi Folks, Wel it's been a few weeks (or months?) since i last posted up here. Basically i've been waiting for the good weather to break. That happened a couple of weeks ago and since then I've been out trying to wear down the old back tire ready to replace it for the new one. I've also built a new oil cooler guard for the bike. I used 1mm thick stainless steel hole drilled as material (photo attached hopefully) and fastened it very much in the same way that one does when attaching a Touratech version. Mine only cost me $15 as opposed to the $75 Touratech want though.....ok i had to spend a couple of hours building the thing and working out how the front mudguard comes off the bike. The bike got tested last ... read more

Where: Near Canmore, AB What: A short hike along Heart creek Weather: ~6C So, the sun was finally up, shortly, but nevertheless. I love the clouds here. They seem so close that you can almost touch them. The fierce wind, though not so much loved, is something I look at like I would do a miracle. It should have tremendous power to make such an eerie sound. But, this is something I learnt from my short stay here. Sunshine is precious. If you find an ounce of sunshine, it would be a crime to view it from the insides of your home. Not a day has gone where we did not check the weather before every weekend. The altitude(~4000 ft) & the mountains makes browsing through weather.com seem so lame. With a toddler, I still ... read more

DAY 19: Saturday 1st May 2010 -CANMORE (by Darryl) Vernon was a nice little town, we found the cbd was pretty handy with some good, cheap shops and all in walking distance of the motel. Sounds like it gets stinking hot here over summer though, with temperatures over 40 degrees C! Back on the road again, we pass some classic American rural scenery which includes those red/white barns, some tumbling down and on a serious lean. Soon we arrive at Sicamous which is on the beautiful Shuswap Lake, so we stop for a picnic lunch by a boatramp near the railway. Theres quite a cold breeze and the town is very quiet. While wandering around Callum spots a fish near the jetty so we convince Sarah that it needs to be caught! (she rolls her eyes). ... read more

Well the last few days have been pretty busy i must say. During the "Planning" stages for the trip I have encountered a new friend in the form of Cody at blacklineGPS.com. Basically we met on the side of the road near Cochrane Alberta, one thing led to another and he's kindly offered to fit a new GPS tracking device to the bike that wil come with a link so you'll be able to track me in real-time. Huge thanks Cody and I'll be listing you guys as a sponsor of the trip for sure. In the meantime i have also fitted the Pelican 1500 case to the back of the GS using Happy trail puck mounts. That was a piece of cake so I hope my handywork is up to scratch or i'll be looking ... read more

Hi Folks, Well, it just goes to show how bad I am at this web stuff. It took me 2 hours to figure out how to put a highlighted map up here as a photo (if it works at all). Anyway... The intended route for our motorcycle trip 2010 North is Canmore alberta to Inuvik in the North west territories and up the "Top of the World Highway" to Fairbanks Alaska and on to Prudhoe Bay. I'll be travelling with a few other riders too. My buddy Andrew Skowby is the first guy to confirm as well as Adam Ferris from Revelstoke (nice to have a member of the medical fraternity on board Adam)! I'm also waiting to hear from Rob Pearce and Dave Booth (both from Canmore as well) in due course.....I'll keep you posted ... read more

Hi Folks, Well....this is a first for me! A few friends asked me if I was going to blog my motorcycle trip in July 2010 to Inuvik and Alaska so I thought I'd give it a go! Over the next few months you'll see me add entries to the blog as I prepare for the trip. I will be adding photos as well (hopefully) along with some kind of commentary as to how things are going. In the meantime, if you can find it in your heart to donate to the Heart & Stroke foundation, please feel free to follow this link http://www.kintera.org/faf/r.asp?t=12&i=318417&g=3667941 News as of March 28th 2010. Preparations are going well and today saw me buy a pelican case to fit on the BMW as a top box. I will use the Happy trail ... read more

Skiing! I love it. So good to finally get on a pair of skis. I have had a great week up in the mountains and I have been super lucky with the snow conditions...aparently it hadn't snowed in two weeks but the first day I get there it is snowing the whole time! We (Madison, the girl I met in Thailand and I)stayed up in Canmore at the Canadian Rockies Chalets (the cheaper alternative to staying in Banff) had had a super cool apartment for the week (only 10 bucks more than a hostel would have been!) I would strongly recommed this as a place to stay...the outdoor hot tub was a great bonus! After hiring some equipment on monday morning we headed up to Sunshine Village for the day. It was snowing heavily and I ... read more

We didn't get back from Lake Louise the night before too late so we stayed in and watched TV, were up quite early this morning and went for a walk around Canmore. When we got back to the pad we couldn't get in, the doors have those swipe cards for entry and we'd been having problems all week. The "friendly" (not) French Canadian girl on reception struggled to help us, she eventually called out the maintenance guy. Whilst the guy fixed the door we packed our stuff and got ready to go, we have a little lock up in the place so we are able to leave some of our things so we sorted them out too. By now it was nearly 11am, we had planned to go into Banff for breakfast at Melissa's, a place ... read more
