The day after the traumatic Delvis experience we moved on to stay with some more lovely people. Mary and Jim Courtney and their kids Johnathan and Alison who so kindly put Jase up when we were here 2 years ago. They live about 45 min out of the city of Calgary in a nice place called Redwood Meadows where there are no fences and deer roam freely. After an eventful day of going to pick Ali up from the airport and being told she missed her flight and driving all the way back home and then being called to say she was waiting to be picked up and had been on the right flight so driving back and other such adventures, we had a bit of a late night, our first night here. The next morning ... read more

Today a simple walk in a canyon didn't go as well as planned. For starters, the multiple forks in the trail helped us find our own canyon and not quite the one we intended. When we came to dead end (a cliff) we decided to descend and call it a day... but with the extra excitement of sliding down the river bed! This was James' great idea which did not go so well for me (non-coordinated Julie). Rather than jumping the rock pool at the end of the slippery slope, I landed right in it and twisted my ankle. If it weren't for the rocky floor I would have rolled around on the ground in agony like a madman. That would have to be the most pain I've experienced in my life and I expressed it ... read more

Today we a good day of riding at Sunshine. The moves are slowly returning and the adrenaline of high speed and big air are flowing through the viens. The snow is melting at a rate of knotts and we only have 4 days of riding left... boohoo! the temptation to return to the great white north at a later date grows stronger by the day. ... read more

Hello Yawl, Had some primo powder on tuesday... about 20cms of freshies. Was very cool and somewhat unexpected at this time of year. I (jim) had the worst day of work the other day... digging a hole for 6.5 hours, a well earned beer was consumed in the afternoon sun afterwork which quickly erased the painful memory. xoxo... read more

Woke up to find it had snowed during the night, making it a beautiful sight first thing in the morning. About four inches had fallen and the fir trees looked lovely covered in snow. The only thing missing was Christmas! At least we didn’t have to scrape all the snow off the car as the hotel has heated underground parking. The morning started with us trying to find the Canmore Mountain Sanctuary Community Church, driving around looking for 1st Ave, which as it happened wasn’t named on the map. Ended up having to ask for directions at a local gas station, and discovered it was next to the hospital. The service was good and enjoyed it very much. Following church, we changed and then drove into Banff to take a walk around Bow Falls just outside ... read more

Skipped breakfast choosing to have a lie in instead, then set off at 10am towards Yoho National Park. The word Yoho is a Cree expression of awe and wonder, which is hardly surprising given that the park is set amid 28 peaks over 3000 metres in height. We stopped at the visitors centre in the park and picked up information before heading up Emerald Lake Road to view Natural Bridge and Emerald Lake which is supposedly one of the jewels of the Canadian Rockies. Natural Bridge is a spectacular natural rock bridge arching over the Kicking Horse River; it was once a waterfall which over time has gradually worn away the rock to form a bridge. We clambered out of the car with all the photographic gear and trudged to the falls. I soon became Liisa’s ... read more
