At about midday on Friday, Jamie and I decided to go on a roadtrip for the weekend. Originally he was supposed to be taking part in a triathlon, and I was going to the movies with friends, but both plans fell through (Jamie has shin splints, the movie hasn't started yet in Jasper) and so we decided to take off on another adventure. Even better, we both get amazing perks with our job! The company Jamie works for own two hotels in Canmore so we got 2 nights in a nice hotel for less than half price. And when I was talking to my boss about going away for the weekend, she gave us her car! Score! Friday afternoon we finished work, packed up the car and headed for Canmore. We had a great trip down ... read more

Well it's been a while since I've written and so much has happened so I thought it was time to update everyone. So I moved to Canmore, Alberta from Vancouver in October to take up a job as a travel agent and spend the winter in the Canadian Rockies. I spend a week travelling the 900kms from Vancouver to Canmore. Along the way I stopped at a couple of small towns. The first was Shuswap Lake just outside Chase. It was an interesting hostel - made from old railway carriages converted into dorms, each with a bathroom and kitchen. Unfortunately it rained the whole time I was there so I didn't get to see much. There was a beaver lodge on the shore of the lake but the beaver couldn't be convinced to leave and let ... read more

We spent a week in Canmore, renting a condo within walking distance of the downtown area. The views were incredible, and the condo's hot-tub offered amazing panoramas of the mountains. If you go, there are some things you must do/see; - Hike Johnson Canyon. It's an easy hike, and well worth the walk. - Visit Banff and walk the downtown area. It's very picturesque. - Take the gondola up Sulphur mountain. The view is amazing. - Go horseback riding in the mountains - Visit Kananaskis - and if possible golf the course there! - Make the trip to Lake Louise - one of the most photographed places in the world, and for good reason.... read more

We woke up to a sunny day with no fixed plans, so Jonno and I did what Jonno and I do, and returned to the scene of yesterday's awe. Marilyn and Richard went driving and walking about checking out new places as you are meant to do, Jonno and I just went and climbed up and down a bit of rock all day. I think M and R went to Banff. But I am not quite sure... memory gets hazy very quickly. We made the mistake of trying to "warm up" on the less steep wall. While leading some 5.9 which felt substantially harder due to the fact that I lost ALL feeling in my hands, and they just felt like fat flaps of cardboard hanging at the end of my arms, I decided it was ... read more

We were all pretty wiped out today from our epic car trip the day before so we did not set very ambitious plans for the day. It was awesome waking up to near-360 degree views of snow capped mountains. I love arriving somewhere in the dark, to have it reveal itself to you in the morning as though you have just magically teleported there. I think I recall a fairly easy, relaxed slow breakfast. Then we went for a drive to Grassi Lakes, a park just out of town Canmore and went for a bit of a walk up the hill. I was aching to get some exercise after sitting in the car all day the day before, so I was jogging at walking pace next to Jonno. Something I regretted the next day, as I ... read more
