I just looked at all my pictures and forgot to write entrys about them. These are pictures of when we were in Stüttgart, Germany. We visited a small town up in the hills known for its wein and you can see the top of the city from the top. The next town we visited while there was called Esslingen, which was a gorgeous area with lots of shopping and a beautiful St. Johns Cathedral that we were able to sing in. So here are some pictures...... read more

Greetings from Hoboken (town we've been in)! Yesterday, was quite an interesting day as usual. Let me start by talking about something I haven't written much about... FOOD! Well, I've been trying a lot of new (and non-vegetarian) foods, including frog legs, escargot, horse meat, delicious sausage, whitloof, chocolates, and many beers and cheeses. Each morning for breakfast we usually have bread with different spreads, nutella, different cheeses (mmm!), smoked salmon spread, cheese & nutella together (really good!), accompanied with a glass of OJ and a cup of coffee. Each day both or either Ludo and Ria have taken time off of work to take us around. Ludo is a teacher at a school, so we're real thankful he could do that. Yesterday morning, Ludo took Noah and I to the Breendonk Concentration Camp which wasn't ... read more

The trip to moscow finally arrived! Usually things like this tend to generate lots of hype and then possibly disappoint in the end. There was none of that though because I think I was sceptical of the whole trip from the very beginning. Ok so the background story to Moscow... Back in February when I was playing some pickup soccer at Gezira club, one of the guys asked if I wanted to play in a girls soccer tournament. He said the girls were good players and that I could join them. The next week I hear from one of my egyptian girlfriends that this tournament is huge and that the sponsor (Vodaphone) was paying for the winning teams (girls and guys) to go to Moscow for the UEFA Champions league football final. I was skeptical because ... read more

While standing in the outfield during a game two weekends ago in Bois-Guillaume, a sacrifice bunt was laid down that moved the runner over to third base. It was one of those plays that, given the situation, (it was late in the game and we were ahead by several runs), we were happy with the play because we got an out (and at this point in the game our goal is to get outs and finish the game), and they were happy because one of their weaker players was at the plate and had done something productive--moved a runner from second to third. And it occurred to me that there really is no other sport/athletic game (in team sports) where an event can happen on the field/court, and both teams/players are satisfied with the result. This ... read more

Europe » Germany May 23rd 2008

Hello everyone! I know it has been quite a while since my last entry...but we have been without computers in the past stays. The last time i wrote I was in Kelzemberg, Germany. since then we traveled to Austria and stayed in a hikers hostel outside of Blüdenz, Austria. We were right in the middle of the Alps. We sang a concert in a city hall building, which really was not as fun as in a church because of a smaller response, but it was alright. That was probably the start of mz sickness. I didnt feel so good that night and it continued to the next day. We stayed there two nights, so it was nice to get a break from host homes, except i was in a room with 16 girls, and there were ... read more

23 May 2008 We decided to have a non pressured day without any travelling and were pleased to enjoy settled weather for the first time in several days. The morning was spent making purchases in the excellent local shops of this pleasant town and then I updated the weblog while Wendy caught up with some washing. After lunch at the van washed down with the good local white wine, I walked along the coast to the Punta Mesco which gave outstanding views of the Cinque Terre from its elevated position. On my return we set off for the beach and had a swim in the Med, something we have been meaning to do for several weeks. The water was not particularly warm, but we really enjoyed it. ... read more

Europe » Netherlands » North Holland » Amsterdam May 23rd 2008

Hellooo from London, but just arrived back here now. Finally, in an english speaking country with a mostly-normal keyboard. Hooray. Since the last entry back in Germany we've travelled to Netherlands - the most craziest country on earth. We had a dutch bike ride on a real dutch bike - they look like granny bikes and they have no brakes which makes it an interesting ride around a city full of rivers, canals, people and posts at roughly groin height. We visited a clog making joint where we saw a bloke knock together a pair of clogs in under 5 mins, then we went to Eden, which is the cheese capital of europe. Yeah yeah, a peaceful country with lovely gardens, flowers, windmills, rivers, people and atmosphere, but we hadn't reached Amsterdam just yet. We settled ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris May 23rd 2008

Okay, so first off, sorry for the lack of updates since I left. My computer's battery is crappy, and it took me until now to buy an AC adaptor for use in Europe. And now my wireless card isn't working, so it let me log on for a total of 20 seconds, then booted me off again. I've now found an internet cafe, so things are looking much better for updates. I'll start from the top. Day 1 I've already written another entry for this day, it's on my laptop, I'll post it when I can. Basically, I got into Paris and got settled.... read more

I'm going to let the pictures speak for themselves on this one. Chris and I had about 36 hours in Paris, so we just hit the biggest sights we could in quick succession. If the dollar ever recovers, I'd love to go back. Not before, though. The sticker shock almost killed us this time.... read more
