Hi All, I have a few spare moments before I do some real work at my desk so I thought I would share a few pics from last weekend and my trip to Dover. It was a beautifully hot 28 degrees and I worked on the tan rather well. I hiked up the White Cliffs, sunbaked on the pebble beaches and saw the Bronze Age Boat (pretty cool). It was a nice break from London after a pretty screwed up week thanks to a few nutters with bombs. Last night we said farewell to Jesse with Pizza and wine. Gonna miss the Dred locks and carefree bloke... see ya in 3 months Jess. I am taking his girlfriend Lorena on a trip this Sunday as a surprise so stay tuned for more pics next week. Enjoy ... read more

What an amazing performance! I was trepidatious b/c Les Mis is my favourite musical and I didn't want to be disappointed. No worries b/c London theatre does not disappoint. John Owen-Jones played Jean Valjean. He's the longest running actor to perform as the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera (1400 performances) and is the youngest to play Valjean so I was a little skeptical - especially b/c Colm Wilkinson was the star of that role as far as I was concerned but Owen-Jones is very very comparable to Wilkinson - a true treat. AND John really really really enjoyed it. It was a great night - had dins at an Italian/French bistro (don't ask! what can I say but it was eclectic - foie gras and boccocini)!! London was hopping last night at midnight! LOVE big ... read more

Today was dressage for the pony pairs and the four-in-hands. Among the competitors for Great Britain was HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. The Duke is credited as a major force in the design of combined driving as it is known today, and has done much to promote the sport. We were able to snap a good number of photos as he guided the Queen's Balmoral ponies through the dressage course. We visited the food exhibition and were able to taste and purchase some of the items for later consumption at our hotel. Among the items were pork pies from Melton Mowbray, sold by a fellow who wore the famous pork pie hat. Apparently these pies have been eaten for centuries by hunters because they kept well and were easy to pack. There was a ... read more

The flight with RyainAir went great, we even arrived 10 minutes before schedule :) At Stansted I decided to take the £2 cheaper and slightly slower coach/bus instead of the train. As it turned out, I was soon to regret that. The bus is supposed to take an hour and half or so, when we after about an hour of travel was just outside of London the driver started to act strange, looking out to the right as if wanting to change lanes. There was lots of traffic so she was unable to do that and kept stearing back to the left lane, after the road split in two she pulled over to a bus stop, took up her mobile and went out of the bus. I thought she missed the turn and decided to call ... read more

John's aunt recommended we visit Hampton Court, the palace of Henry VIII and his six wives, so we trained it out of Wimbledon this morning. The train system is amazing over here. They're on time to the second and you can go anywhere your heart desires with little hassle. Hampton Court is pretty amazing and I've decided I would like a throne over our bed. I think John would like to have separate wings like the King and Queen too! We wandered throughout the beautiful Royal Gardens and happened upon a maze. I felt like Danny in "The Shining". Redrum. A bit creepy! Now we're having lunch in the Tiltyard Gardens where the king used to watch jousting over 500 yrs ago. There's so much history in England it's amazing. Even the pubs we've gone to ... read more

What do you think of when you think of Scotland? Misty Mountains, Castles, Knights and Sea Monsters? Or maybe Bagpipes, kilts and Brave heart? Scotland is all that and more. On our way to Scotland we stopped to visit medieval Alnwick Castle, the second largest inhabited castle in England. The castle is the family home of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland. It’s earliest sections were built in 1096. The picturesque castle has been used for the backdrop of many famous movies. Some of the films include “Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves” with Kevin Costner, “Elisabeth” starring Kate Blanchette, and most recently the “Harry Potter” movies. When we saw the castle we could understand why so many have chosen it as a set location. The large exquisite gardens, the sheep grazing in it’s surrounding hilly pastures ... read more

We finally arrived at Heathrow. We picked up our baggage and dashed off to the car rental lot. Considering that driving on the so-called "wrong" side of the road was new for us, we opted to pay a little more for a car with an automatic transmission. We didn't care to cause any head-on collisions due to having to multi-task, thank you very much! Perhaps the busy roads around Heathrow didn't provide the optimum environment to cut your teeth driving in the UK, but Seth quickly got the hang of it. Once we were on the M25, he was very relaxed and we were on our way to meet Seth's family in Burton-upon-Trent. The World Pony Driving Championships were being held nearby at Catton Hall in South Derbyshire. When we arrived, everyone was already out at ... read more
