Success yesterday for the band makes today a "free" day so it was off to Stirling. Joan, myself, Mike McNeil and Lori Kortshak led the tour of kids. From the university by bus to the Stirling Train station for information so Joan who leaves early can get from here to Glasgow airport. The rail people refer us to the Stirling Bus Station where Joan finds what she needs. And guess what ? We are right next to the Thistle Shopping centre and Lorie is looking for a cell phone. Of course there are phone stores in malls, . . . even in scotland. Then out the door to the streets of Stirling where the sounds of pipes are heard. Out on the streets of Stirling are a couple of "buskers" - - - two of the ... read more

Flying to Austrailia in next couple of days, so haven't done much, just revisited a couple of museums. Also went to a Latin American festival (Carnival del Pueblo) with a friend from school. 19 different Latin American countries, food (including beer from Peru!), music, dancing, etc. Nice day out, sunny and relatively warm, and evidence that London is a very multicultural city.... read more

Times have changed -Now I am having the most wonderful time. I've been here for over a month, let me tell you it's been a rollercoaster ride. I have been to the pubs and clubs in London... Seen Big Ben, and Tate Modern, Winchester Cathedral etc... I have also been reading lots on my journeys (45mins) to-and-from Paddington from Didcot. This week the weather is amazing. Bright and sunny. I am trying to work on my tan, by sitting at the pool... ALSO I AM GOING TO GREECE AND SPAIN! isn't that exciting. ... read more

Another Sunday and the piping routine conntinues with another Highland Games competition but this Sunday we are at the Bridge of Allan in Scotland. The Bridge of Allan is only a couple miles from where we are staying at the university. For the kids, it's on the bus at 9:45AM to be transported to the games site. Not too far for pipers to walk but can you imagine packing some of those drums, especially the big bass drum that far ?! Parents made our own way to the games, most I think by enjoying a Sunday morning walk. The Bridge of Allan is a small community not far from Stirling which is about midway between Glasgow and Edinburgh. The community may be small, the games venue might be small, but it is a very busy venue ... read more

Egg #2: Hi all - the exciting departure date ever approaches - but we've had a bit of a change of plans re timing of leave and initial stops. We've now decided to go to France and Germany (Bavaria) on a drive / camp trip for about a month before leaving for Thailand. Nothing like a bit of sponteneity, eh? This has all came about following our weekend of camping at Roundyhill near Dundee - I'd never been camping before, as I've always operated on the basis that you can't plug a hairdryer into a field. However - I realised that I need to learn to 'ruff it' a bit in prep for Big Trip. Well, we had SO. MUCH. FUN. Apart from the driving rain, total lack of sleep, constantly barking dogs from the Rescue ... read more

Meeting Rebecca Checking out Camden Markets Walking everywhere. Yet another not too motivated morning. But I did know I had to be up and ready to leave the house by 10AM because it’d take about an hour to get to Camden to meet Rebecca for a day out in London. Wasn’t too sure where the best place to meet would be but I wanted to check out the wackiness of the Camden Markets for myself. Interesting that magic mushrooms are for sale openly and I saw the neon shop for myself as well. There were quite a few stalls set up selling clothes and souvenirs and stuff like that. It was quite an interesting experience. After a bit of browsing we stopped into a coffee shop for a drink and snack. Next up on our discovery ... read more

Well packing is turning out to be a real pain, especially since the air conditioner in my apartment isn't working. Its too hot to do anything! Last night was my leaving party - We went to a British pub in Manhattan, I thought it was quite fitting. It was great to see everyone, people were buying me pints left and right. I don't usually drink pints that much so after a few I started to get dizzy. I felt like I was in high school drinking wine coolers. It was really tragic, honestly. I'm the tragic hipster. At this time next week I will be one tragic hipster in London Town!!!!! So, for all you whippersnappers out there who haven't seen me since Australia, Did you know that I just finished my Master of Arts??? I ... read more

Next on to Loch Ness which is the deepest body of water in the world and also the most famous. The water is very dark and you can't see 10 foot in front of you. The rain washes the colour our of the peat on the hills and into the water. In the depths of the Loch lives cannibalistic trout called Ferox, which have been known to grow up to 2.54m long and 68kg. We took a trip on a boat on the Loch Ness with a marine biologist who went on to tell us that the first sighting of the Loch Ness Monster was in 565 AD which is recorded on the archives at the Vatican. Apparently many years ago a priest blessed the monster and said that he would no longer hurt people and ... read more
