I spy London Eye Thirty-Two glass modules Going round and round. I made it to the London Eye this morning. The line ups weren't too long but long enough! I really hate to have to wait. I think that the line ups were moving slowly because they have to inspect everyone's bags before entering the glass module. Once in the air conditioned module we were off! This giant Ferris wheel takes about 30 minutes to go around once and provides some excellent views of the city. Although the entry fee was quite pricey, I thought it was worth it especially since the weather was nice and sunny. I splurged the extra £3 and bought the pictorial souvenir booklet that depicts all of the sights that can be seen from all directions. A bonus was that there ... read more

Today Jane took us into Kent so John could visit (and I could meet) her mom Avril. Avril as related to John's dad and it was really nice to meet her. Avril is a lovely lady and she took us out to lunch for a really good roast beef, yorkshire pudding sunday meal. We ate in a really nice restaurant that up until a year ago had been a police station. The bathroom was the best one yet (believe me, a good bathroom is very hard to find here)! On our way back from lunch, Jane and Avril suggested we drop by "Belinda's" house. Belinda was John's dad's cousin and she had never met John. It was a touching reunion. Poor John has to keep reminding me how all the family tree is connected but I ... read more

July 17th 2005 Godalming, Surrey, England. Life becomes almost laughably idyllic here in my little corner of the world, as I build an easy-going, comfortable rapport with my client/couple and we slide into something vaguely resembling a routine. There's still a never-ending assortment of people - nurses, physiotherapists, doctors, family, staff, tour groups, visitors - always coming in and out, but that's no longer as disorientating as it was initially. In fact, it's nice to always be busy. Some home-caring assignments can probably become very lonely and monotonous. Autumn is almost here, but until a week or so ago we would go down to the fruit gardens almost every day and pick raspberries, strawberries, gooseberries, red currants, and so forth. It was all very homespun and sweet. I have developed a mad craving for raspberries, which ... read more

so i'm still here in edinburgh, i love it. there is so much to do here and i met some really cool people, so i'm pretty happy. I'm kinda sad though because i have to leave and get down to london, probably going to leave here tomorrow and head to manchester for a day and then london for a day. my flight to estonia is on july 21 at 645am. I met a couple of people who had flights outta london and they said that the security takes around 2-2 and a half hours to clear, good thing that i'm sleeping at the airport. So i guess that i won't be able to send pictures for a few more days because my camera is too old and no computers recognize it. I've almost filled my memory ... read more

I've mostly been visiting the parks today, slacking in the sun. Getting to know my way around London, which isn't so hard. Walked bare-foot through Green Park, felt great after a day in shoes! Checked out the stores at Kensington High street, found a nice sushi place for dinner. After that I cought a bus to Piccadilly Circus and ended up on the back-streets of Soho with its "adult" movies and inviting girls at the entrances promising a great show inside...... read more

TIMING is everything… Haven’t we all heard that saying at one TIME or the other? So, when it comes to our TIMING around visiting London, at first glance it might seem that TIME was working against us. We prefer to think of it as the right TIME to see London from a unique viewpoint. A SMALL NOTE HERE: We are seriously behind on our blogs! TIME waits for no man. We left the UK on July 16th. The next couple of blogs (hopefully) will come fast and furious. Maybe we'll be able to get back on TIME! Our original plan was to arrive on July 7th , we had reservations to stay at a hotel near Hyde Park. "a" had made a birthday request for tickets to a concert happening in the park on July 8th. ... read more

Today was a break during the competition, so we decided to make a jaunt to Burton Overy and Carlton Curlieu, small towns in Leicestershire, which are my (Vicki's) ancestral homes on my father's side. It took a little over an hour to get there from Burton-upon-Trent. We drove through Leicester city on our way, and were greeted by Harry Potter and Dumbledore waving from the top of the Borders Bookstore as we passed through (the 6th Harry Potter book had just been released). We made our way to a quiet, pastoral area and then we saw the Burton Overy sign and knew we were at the place! I am a bit of a hobby genealogist and I had been dreaming about making this trip for over 20 years. Burton Overy is a quaint small village -- ... read more

Uneventful flights Pretty empty to KL Full to Vienna. Made it to the Sydney Airport with plenty of time to check in and spend my last few Australian dollars. I didn't really need to buy anymore souvenirs so I wasn't really sure what to do with my money. Then I came across some earphones. I could use those since the last three months the right earbud of my existing pair has not been working...rather irritating listening to music from only one ear bud - loses that stereo effect. lol Then basically I just wandering around the shops some more and just waited for my boarding call. I'd much rather be waiting around the airport than rush, rush, rushing like I see some people around me doing. I got assigned seat 35B. Great a middle seat! Apparently ... read more

Yesterday we spent a very nice day w/ John's Uncle Gordon and his wife, Anne-Lynne. They picked us up at 10:30am and we went to Runnymeade where the Royal Air Force Memorial is to pay tribute to John's Uncle Ted Dawson who was shot down in WWII. I wanted to view Gramma's brother Frank b/c the Royal Canadian Air Force was recognized there as well but I regrettably drew a blank on Gramma's maiden name so cldn't pay my respects. Following Runnymeade we went to Windsor and saw the Queen's "summer home" which was magnificent. What a stunningly beautiful castle. We had a great lunch on a cobblestoned mew and then wandered around the quaint (albeit touristy) streets. In the evening we met John's cousin, Katy and had our first pitcher of Pimms. YUMMY!! We're definitely ... read more

We met John's cousin Jane at Waterloo Station and headed towards the Southbank. We decided to do the ultimate tourist act and go on the London Eye. The "queue" was incredibly long so we opted to buy our tickets ahead and go back later in the afternoon to go on the Eye. Wandering along the Southbank was great. The Thames was on our left while street performers lined our right - well, actually, the "performers" were people all painted in gold and silver who sat completely motionless for money. Not sure if "performer" is the correct description b/c they just stand there! Anyway, we went into the Tate Modern for a mere minute to see some contemporary art. The one that struck us the most was a glass of water on a glass shelf. Very moving. ... read more
