Hey guys, It is another beautifully sunny day in Oxford. It is the second one in a row. Sunny days here are amazing because they are so few it really makes you appreciate them. Yesterday I was just walking through the city trying to get the library or trying to burn some time and it was amazing how the light would break through the spaces between the archaic stone buildings. I am really enjoying this city. This past week I have been very busy with work and play. That it why I have not undated in a while. I had my first tutorial on Monday, and for that tutorial (and every tutorial) I am have to write between a 1500-3000 work essay. So, I was reading and writing all week getting ready for it. Then I ... read more

Day 3 in Sheffield; we decide to venture into town on the tram system. Alison and Peter pointed out shops, cafés and most importantly pubs on our tutorial last night so we were of course supremely confident. Ha Ha! We took the laptop in because there must be an Internet café somewhere in town (you’d think)! Starbucks was the only place we found, so we settled in for a while of blogging and catching up with emails. The connection was so slow, and expensive, we gave up after an hour or so. During this time I found a tourist information centre and a map. There was another internet place we discovered - a bar, but opening times were different, we will try that tomorrow. We found a pub for lunch (not the Frog and Parrot we ... read more

Today has been a glorious day. Sunny and about 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Once again a fairly normal day....thus if nothing exciting happens then you may not find a post about it. I went to class and learned more about US foreign policy during the Cold War. You have to love the US and their intervention in EVERYTHING. It was quite entertaining though when the lecturer accidentally stated that FDR was assasinated. Oh goodness. After class I headed over to the library where I subsequently spent several hours searching for books pertaining to the class reading agenda. Funtimes! At 1pm there were tons of people in the library....I've never seen so many people in the library! Maybe that's because I don't frequent McHenry that often at home. I ended up checking out 6 books. I then headed ... read more

sorry this is so poorly written. I'm too lazy to write well. Soo I went to Stratford-Upon-Avon with the lovely Janet this weekend. As much as I love Shakespeare, I think alot of the things there were stupid. The plays we saw were awesome....veryyy much worth the money we payed. However, things like Shakespeare's uncle's brother's house or Shakespeare's wife's family's house were just not cool. I enjoyed historicla and factual information, but most of it was not factual. I suspect that the town passes off alot of info concerning Shakespeare that is just myth or just "possible" not even probable. Soooo that kind of felt like getting sucked into a tourist trap. shaekespeare would think all that mess is idiotic anyway. Warwick is a castle right next to Stratford. That was really neat. There was ... read more

Part of the thing about writing a travelblog is that you have to actually have something to write about in order to make it interesting -- for the past week, the only interesting thing to write about is what particular symptom of the good old fashioned Scottish flu I had aquired on that particular day. I was essentially been out of commission for most of last week -- I even missed classes! I was hit pretty hard with a pretty bad case of something or other, and spent most of this weekend in my apartment reading and trying to make up all the work that I had missed over the course of the week. So right now, reading and working is about all that I have to report. I promise there will be something slightly more ... read more

I am so excited! On Friday I got an email from my friend Jenny (who I've known for 10 years!!!) saying that she was in London. She has a cousin who lives in Central London and she was over here visiting him. They went to Paris and just came back. I'd sent her a postcard letting her know my new info and that I was actually moving. Didn't have a lot of notice, but equally, didn't have any plans for the weekend so it worked out well. I went into the City and we all ended up going to Oxford for the afternoon. When we left, the skies were clear (well, as clear as they ever really are) and the weather was warm enough that I didn't really need a coat. (I'm sure you can already ... read more

Sunday is the day Alison and Peter go grocery shopping, so we tagged along to get some supplies we cant do without. Alison was to prepare a traditional English breakfast (brunch time) for Mick complete with black pudding. While we were shopping, Alison said she had ran in to Michael, one of the old farmhands we used to know when Grandad had the farm. Unfortunately Mick and I weren't with her then, we'd walked off on our own to do some investigating... We had completed the shopping and were relaxing back at home when who should come to the door but Michael's brother Stewart! Alison said she hadn't seen either of them for ages, and both on one day was very unusual. Stewart had a family matter to discuss with Alison and Peter, so Mick and ... read more

His skin was like leather. He wore the tattered remains of what might have been a sleeping bag. His most distinguishing feature was a two foot long, one foot wide matt of hair, resembling the tail of the North American Beaver. It is unlikely that this particular Scot had ever seen a beaver, making the resemblance a phenomenon. Three years ago in late July the man had approached three naive Canadian tourists on the streets of Edinburgh to ask for spare change. He felt akin to the three because they too had terribly out style hair cuts. Today... His beaver tail swayed happily in the light breeze, basking in the autumn sun. a fleeting glance. A passerby. A familiar face. It was him, The naive Canadian with the formerly awkward haircut. Fate had brought them together ... read more
