His skin was like leather. He wore the tattered remains of what might have been a sleeping bag. His most distinguishing feature was a two foot long, one foot wide matt of hair, resembling the tail of the North American Beaver. It is unlikely that this particular Scot had ever seen a beaver, making the resemblance a phenomenon. Three years ago in late July the man had approached three naive Canadian tourists on the streets of Edinburgh to ask for spare change. He felt akin to the three because they too had terribly out style hair cuts. Today... His beaver tail swayed happily in the light breeze, basking in the autumn sun. a fleeting glance. A passerby. A familiar face. It was him, The naive Canadian with the formerly awkward haircut. Fate had brought them together ... read more

So I got up late, it's really become a bad habit and pattern due to the late nights out here. It's nutty I know. So the only thing that I really did today was go to ultimate practice. Other than that nothing really exciting happened....I did some homework and stayed home hanging out. That's about it.... read more

We caught the fast train from Munich back to Franfurt today, then a flight to Manchester. The Flight was a bit bumpy, and I was quite glad to get off! Our first glimps of Manchester was beneath the clouds, a bit rainy and overcast. After speeding through customs, and bearing in mind our flight was early, we got to arrivals and Alison and Peter weren't there!! "Oh no" we thought, but after finding the nearest toilets, they arrived and all was well. Ricky the dog was also there to pick us up, as he likes to plane spot! We had fish n chips for dinner, and Mick was asked if he wanted 'scraps' - which is the fallen off bits of batter in the oil, which they scoop out and give to people while they are ... read more

A very happy birthday to Leslie from UBC! She and I headed to Sains' this morning for some grub, a must. We picked up some cheesecake and had a mini celebration for her 20th birthday. The rest of the afternoon was spent talking and swapping stories with Leslie and one of her flatmates, Aylin. It was interesting to get different perspectives. Aylin is British but she basically grew up in Michigan and a bit in South Africa, so she has a fairly broad world view. After leaving to make myself some dinner, I got roped into going out to a house party. I was really reluctant to go but in the end I had a great time. However, meeting up with everyone was a bit of a challenge. I walked to Cavendish but no one was ... read more

On Saturday a huge group of International students took a trip to the North Antirm Coast, the Giants causeway, and Dunluce Castle. The day was typical weather wise for Northern Ireland. The morning was beautiful and clear. Blue skies abounding in alll their glory, then as we get along in the car the rain begins pouring down. I was very glad that I had packed my rain coat. Of course once we arrive first in Port Stewart The sun once again comes out. But the calming breeze is replaced by a fierce wind, which you can see in the pictures. At all points throught the day we were subject to the ever changing mood of the weather. However, we did see more rainbows that day then I think I have ever seen. when I was ... read more

As some of you know, I've been fighting with my bank and I've not been able to have some services available to me that are standard in the US. First, some background. Within the first week that I was in the country, I was able to get my bank account set up with one of the major banks since my manager had a contact at a locum agency that knew some high-ranking person at this bank. After finally contacting this person (she'd been out of the office with food poisoning), she was able to set up the account over the phone with me having to fax her a couple of documents. Now, from my point of view, this was great. Everything that I'd read or been told basically said that this process was going to take ... read more

Well, I'm here at Heathrow Airport. Sitting. Waiting. Poised. ...well, almost poised, more sleepy really, after spending a rough night in the most lumpy bed in the world in Tooting, but hey, travellers can't be choosers and I'd better get used to lowering my standards. Had an emotional farewell at the departure gate, which was, to tell you the truth, rather drowned out by the feeling of impending doom which was slowly creeping up on me. It's not that this travelling malarky is a bad idea, just that it's not really a very well thought out and planned idea, more of a daydream really that seems to be turning to into reality. My bums going numb, hope we start boarding soon, I can't wait for my little airplane-sized portions of soggy vegatables and bland sauces, mmmm. ... read more
